Hey, there. I'm new. Or at least new-ish. Now that I've officially temporarily given up on trying to work out how all of this was engineered, I figured it was time to introduce myself to the general populous of my fellow kidnapped individuals.

So yeah. I'm Wasabi. That's what people tend to call me, at least. Normally, I'm a student at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology, but seeing as how that doesn't exist here... Well. Maybe I can cheat a little and just say I'm a physicist, with most of my focus going into Applied Physics.

So maybe you can see why getting here threw me for a couple of extra loops. A lot about this world and the travel to and from it is amazing, but also supremely terrifying. It's a weird combo, and it's even weirder to consider that nobody around here seems to be able or willing to explain it. Maybe that's not here or there, though. I'm getting ahead of myself.

So. Right. Just in the way of ice-breakers, if anybody could recommend a good restaurant or two, that'd be great. Bonus points if anybody knows a really authentic Japanese joint. And remember: the sanitation grade counts for a lot.

I've gotten a couple of recommendations, mostly for sushi, specifically. I'll let you know how promising they end up being.

Apparently, getting friends who cook is the best route to take.

[Well that's relieving. He can't imagine the kind of person who purposely picks that.]

[There's a small shrug at that, dusting off his coat.]

Not really. Week or two? But from what I've heard, some people are here for years.

I've heard a little about that, too. I assumed you might be one of them. You sounded a little fatalistic there.

Me? Nah, just optimistically pessimistic, you know?

Not to say I'm gonna let that stop me from finding a way home. Because I've got plans on that.

Oh yeah? Do tell.

[ Wasabi, on that front, always starts trying to think his way around impossible machines. Whatever's involved in getting home is going to be difficult work, and that's a gross understatement. Does this guy know a trick that nobody else does? Because he'd love to hear it. ]

Well it's America, right? America's got oceans.

... Apart from the plethora of international travel issues that would bring up, you mean?

It wouldn't solve the problem of being in a completely alternate world.

[Two good points. The first one's more of a suggestion, though, Kaneda had no intention of actually...going through the motions of international travel.

It might--We know America won't help. Did anyone ask the rest of the world?

[He may just be slightly biased and trust his own country. Three world wars will do that.]

I'm not sure it's a matter of if they won't help. The claim thus far is that they can't.

I'm not sure how any other countries' advancements would stack up in order to help us.

[There's a soft huff, folding his arms and tilting his head.]

Funny--we got all the powers in the world here, but interdimensional travel isn't one of em.

I think it's difficult to say. I never considered the granting of superpowers on human beings to be possible in itself, so I can't say what might be possible. To estimate the possibility would take lots and lots of data, and... Figuring out how to grant that at will would probably take a lot more than that.

The best bet would be the machine. Or one like it.

You need to do science. Right?

Right.

Whattya say, you up for some science stuff? Because I'm pretty damn curious on why no one's gotten that power. Or what the limit is.
