Hey all, it's Kate Bishop, and I figured we're in a position to try to bring together our information now. We got a lot of stuff over the weekend, and I know a number of people are looking into the situation with Captain Holiday. I know that I'm worried about him, at least, so hopefully, we can all come together.

After all, Loki and Annie have really put it best: sharing is caring when it comes to this stuff, so let's do some sharing.

Below, I'm going to try to organize our sharing and caring to the best of my ability! Talk among yourselves.

Thanks, everyone!

[ooc: for the sake of information sharing with the most ease, comment below and share information! I may be tagging around a bit with Kate within reason, but I figured it'd be good to have a big place to share information, especially right before the big plot gets underway this week.]

[ The following is secured to the network at 9 PM, via an ID that has not been present on it yet, a simple non-interactive bulletin. It will not be responded to, although imPorts are free to engage in discussion amongst themselves. ]

ATTENTION IMPORTS!

It is come to our attention that Unsettled imPorts have been allowed to skirt our regulations regarding what benefits are and aren't received up to this month, which is a dire oversight on the part of your liaisons and supervisors. Upon discovering that the budget for imPort benefits received far exceeded the amount needed for the current amount of Registered imPorts we have on file, further investigation showed that many similar oversights have been provided for non-Registered imPorts off the books that have not been sanctioned by those of us outside of Cape Canaveral.

We are getting to the bottom of this and are making cuts in the budget where they should have been already: Non-Registered imPorts were never meant to be receiving these benefits for as long as they have been. Furthermore, upon questioning your current imPort Affairs Liaison, Captain Parc Holiday, he could not account for every inconsistency we've since discovered and showed some alarming signs of blunted affect and apparent memory gaps; those inconsistencies he claimed he could recall he admitted to committing.

Make no mistake, we in the Federal Government sympathize with the imPort plight, but we cannot afford to let free resources be given out illegally; Captain Holiday does not have the authority to make such decisions. Effective immediately he has been removed from his position as ImPort/Government Affairs Liaison and has been moved into a maximum security psychiatric facility to further study his symptoms. Until we can locate a suitable replacement or Captain Holiday proves himself truly fit to resume his duties, we are promoting Lieutenant Ananke to Captain so she can operate in his stead and will be keeping an eye on the situation as well as her performance to determine what other changes may prove necessary.

I'm sure by now most of you are aware of the recent... changes within the Government's import policy. There are plenty of those out there asking for your opinions on how it's right or wrong, one way or another so I'll refrain.

Instead of bothering with how you 'feel' about the subject, I'm going to ask that you dig a little deeper and objectively think about what such a decision might hold for our future. What does such a development mean for you? What do you think it means for all of us? What implications and ramifications might there be in store? How will the civilians of this nation react?

Denied the right to vote, non-registered imports are still unable to leave the country. Forced to live in a country that fails to recognize them as citizens, what are they, and we, to do?

I find that as my mind processes this development, it always inevitably comes back to one thing: Continuum: That miracle substance that allows imports to defy death itself. It's our life blood, almost in the literal sense. And it has thus far been freely given to imports. But with recent cut backs could this soon be in jeopardy as well?

An element so rare and useful. I wonder, sometimes, if the question might ever be raised as to the benefit of supplying it to non-registered imports?

In fact I have a great many questions regarding Continuum in general. Questions like, is it renewable? If not can it be synthesized? Does it only work on imports? If I had these answers I might be able to shed some light on the matters at hand, and possibly dispel some fears we might have.

But I don't suppose there's a supply readily available to us imports...

But that aside it would be my great honor to hear what you think on the matter, and how you intend to react to the situation at hand.

"In our first news item this evening, authorities say they have finally caught the hacker responsible for last week's government security leak. The imPort known only to authorities as "Skye" turned herself in to Heropa PD this morning, confessing to the crime and providing ample evidence of her involvement. What spurred this sudden confession, police are still trying to understand. Is she merely a pawn taking the fall for some larger organisation? We now switch to Lauren McMercer live, interviewing the policemen who made the arrest."

[The interview that follows of the officer is bland and doesn't really give much detail. There was no fuss to be had with the arrest; in fact, the whole thing was basically a non-event.]

You know what's easy? Taking things away from people who aren't participating the way they were supposed to. I know it's...easy to be mad. Particularly about what's happening, and if I were to have my benefits cut, and my other benefits in question, I'd be mad too, more than that, I'd be scared.

The problem is, when you decide to do things when you're scared. I've done it before, and the problem is that thinking clearly isn't something that really comes to mind, and that's...where problems come in. I don't want to see us get in trouble, by not thinking. But I don't want to let people get walked over, either. The problem is that they haven't heard from us, and while I've pushed in my own way, it's been...ineffective. I'd like to sugarcoat it, but I won't, it was a mistake. The fact is that we need to push in a different way, and it's time to change tactics, if you're unhappy with the way things are.

For the people I haven't spoken to yet, I'm your representative. I've been advocating for import rights with our military benefactors, but unfortunately, the military is as restrained to the budget as anyone else, and that's the simple fucking fact of it. We can't change the budget, particularly when the porter's kept up like this for so long. There are a lot of us, and I don't know if they were prepared for so many people, and such a diverse crew. We've been lucky, honestly, back in the City, when we first started coming through, there were problems with destruction -- but then again, we had fucking Godzilla there.

I guess, I should really promise that I'm going to do better, for you. However, I'm one voice, and these sorts of things need a bit more than just empty words from one asshole who looks like he belongs. I need things from you guys, tell me why you chose what you chose. I'm not...looking for debate, exactly. We all have our opinions, and our reasons for choosing registration or not registering. What I'm looking for is the reasoning. why does registration make you uncomfortable, why did you choose not to? What can the government do to encourage you to do it? I know that sounds pretty damn trite but... [ He reaches up, to run a hand through his hair, the camera doesn't move, it looks to be affixed at computer length, from his desk. Behind him is a (mostly) obscured list of the senators currently in office, with [x]x and [y]s next to the names. It's a map of how they voted, obviusly. ]

I guess, what I'm saying is, give me something to take to them. Let me see if I can start pushing in the right direction, to see if we can change some minds. Tell me why you chose the way you did, what made you do it. What's your history with this kind of thing. Showing how diverse we are as a community will do more good than anything else.

[when the camera clicks on, everyone is treated to a riveting shot of the user's chest. it moves up slowly and deliberately to finally showcase Jonathan's face, which is currently staring at the communicator with the sort of intensity that only a man who possessed the barest idea of what he was doing could wear. the guides he'd met upon arrival could only explain so much in a limited amount of time, after all.

when it becomes apparent that he's actually managed to get the thing going without incident, he smiles with a boyish excitement. it's a little surprising to see on a man whose chest is still taking up 2/3 of the shot despite the careful angling. when he speaks, his voice is gentle and even.]

Ah, it worked! I was so sure that I'd break something and have to start over at least once.

[he laughs lightly]

Hello to...well, anyone viewing this, I suppose. My name is Jonathan Joestar - but feel free to call me Jojo, if you prefer. I'm one of the new arrivals, although that probably goes without saying.

[even without the fumbling with the communicator, Jonathan feels like it's pretty obvious he's completely out of his depth]

I still have quite a bit of adjusting to do, but in the meantime I hope to help in whatever way that I can. If there's something you think I might be able to do for you, please don't hesitate to ask.

[is he seriously offering to do whatever anybody needs to an entire network of strangers? the answer, apparently, is yes, because Jonathan smiles with complete sincerity as if this is a completely normal thing to do.

is there anything else he needs to say right now? he'd already asked the government people about Speedwagon and Erina, so no need to try and page them here. there is that one thing, but...he hesitates, then decides to just go for it. no shame in not knowing something.]

There's something I'd like to ask about now, though, to anyone who's been here long enough to be familiar with this world's culture.

Is seeking out ghosts...normal, here?

Good afternoon, fellow imPorts. It is with considerable regret that I must inform you today that Miles Edgeworth, caretaker of the fund for Unsettled imPorts, has returned home recently. I have been holding off on making this announcement for as long as possible in the hopes that it would not be necessary, however it seems as if this is truly the case.

I am sure that those who were close to Mr. Edgeworth were already aware, however given his business, this is a matter that concerns more than just his close personal relations.

For those of you who are unaware, part of Mr. Edgeworth's business was managing a non-profit fund for Unsettled imPorts so that those who were wary of registering-- particularly children and teenagers with little other means of supporting themselves-- might have some security, as well as helping to find jobs for such imPorts.

Mr. Edgeworth left very clear instructions that his business was to be transferred to a Mr. Phoenix Wright in the event of his departure; however, it seems that he too has either gone missing or returned home. In any case, I have not been able to locate him.

The initiative, however, was sound. I would like to reassure both those who donated to the fund and those Unsettled imPorts who were depending upon it that the initiative will continue, in keeping with the spirit of Mr. Edgeworth's hard work. However, I cannot manage it entirely on my own. Being seventeen and only a first year law student, I am neither considered a legal adult in this world nor familiar enough with the nitty gritty legal details that must be taken care of in the day-to-day. I therefore humbly request the help of any like-minded individual who would be willing to assist. The groundwork has all been done by Mr. Edgeworth, it should not be too difficult a task. My name is John Mandrake, and you can reach me at this communicator ID at any time.

I've cleared my schedule, so I'll be around for some time today if anyone wishes to ask any questions.

[ the video feed opens on david as reflected through a mirror. is he taking a bathroom selfie? david, that's gross. his communicator is nowhere to be seen, and both his hands are leaning against the vanity. where is the camera? his visor, probably. ]

In my time here, especially since beginning work as a career counselor, it's become alarmingly clear to me that at least half the people here have no idea how to use the devices they're giving. Some of you are from times where technology of this nature didn't exist, and that may not be your fault. But it is a problem that demands a solution.

[ with a slight twitch of his eye, the camera shifts subtly. but the view takes on a yellow tint, and an overlay of the video appears on the left side, until it's quickly swiped away. he pulls his visor up to his forehead, and the yellow comes away with it. oh, he's in front of a mirror because he's showing off how much he knows about the systems, broadcasting directly from his eyes.

well, isn't that fancy of you, david.
]

Here at imPort Career Services, our job is to equalize the playing field, to give you the tools to live as full and satisfying a life as you're inclined to while you are forced to live here. Some of you have already taken advantage of our jobfinder program, but there's still more we can offer.

I'm going to be holding a workshop on Sunday at the community center, focused on giving imPorts a primer on the most basic technology you'll encounter in your lives: the communicator. We'll be going through the basics, how the Network app works and how-tos for various scenarios, and even touch upon some of the more advanced features, [ pressing a finger to his temple, ] like the mental relays.

In the future, I would also like to give classes on Office, Acrobat, and other programs you may encounter in the workplace, but our funding is a little in flux with the exit of Mr. Edgeworth, our organization's founder. I'll keep you updated as that situation progresses.

Attendance is free, just make sure you're there by 9am when we get started.

Have a good day, and enjoy your weekend.

[Ward's throat still feels like shit and a half, but he's managed to process the following. He's no longer in jail (that's a plus), he's got super powers (he's unsure if that's a plus or minus) but he arrived and avoided the network for a few days out of fear of breaking the damn thing. He's decided long since then that he can't let Skye intimidate him.

She's here. And she's been here for awhile. She has home team advantage.

The only problem is they have a record of him. This whole registering thing was crap - what was the point of being given a second chance if he really couldn't leave Grant Ward behind? For the first time he wants to.

So time to test the waters. He's been to the ceremony, he's been sworn in, he's had a dramatic reunion with the woman he'd thought he cared about.]

New arrival here. Roomba salesman and repairman. Anybody else get a completely shit job? I know nothing about Roomba's.

Assuming Roombas here are the vaccuum robots. Y/N?

Also feel like shooting myself in the foot here, but is there some kind of a "so now you have super abilities" support group? Any help or advice appreciated.

[Reading over it two or three times he nods, satisfied that it's not incriminating, that it's blaise enough that even if people decide to ask him questions he can think up enough to talk about without screwing up.

He'd been in worse situations.

His roommates might have noticed that his doorknob on the outside was significantly bent and someone has been closing doors in their apartment very, very quietly.]
