THE MAJORITY REPORT: AUGUST 10TH, 2015
There's a happy buzz in the air about next week's Swearing-In -- especially after the tell-all that the previous month had wrought. Plenty of locals will be flocking in to (hopefully!) catch some imPort glimpses. Should be a grand old time!

IMPORTNET SENSATION
With a new influx of imPorts, De Chima has been kickstarting additional social media platforms to feature imPorted personalities. Along with UStube and the hyper patriotic BlueTube, there's now MeTube for your online perusal! MeTube is intended for a younger generation and will feature some fresh fanfare video about at least one imPort daily. Keep a keen eye open, because you might come across something about YOU one of these days. After all, there's no shortage of fandom attention.

URBAN OUTSIDERS
According to unnamed sources in the White House, President Freemason is considering a proposal to expand imPorts into a new city. She has her eye on a West Coast destination. Whispering lips claim that the President is concerned about a Soviet attack on Los Angeles, and an imPort presence there would help safeguard the populace.

A TITANIC CHANGE IN THE CLUB BUSINESS
With the exPort of Oswald Cobblepot, the Iceberg Lounge is changing hands. Rumor has it that the new owners are planning to monopolize the area.

SECURITY CHECK
Senator Haik has made a statement with regards to the imPort informational breach of the previous Swearing-In. In the Senator's statement, he claims that Soviet spies WERE INDEED responsible for the hacking and consequential leak of information about certain imPorts, and that the Department of Homeland Security could not deny nor confirm if anything said about these imPorts was true. The Congressional Intelligence Committee is holding three conferences with the CIA to determine the severity of this attack, and the appropriate response.

CODE SWITCH
The Homeland Security Advisory System has moved from YELLOW to ORANGE in response to Senator Haik's statement.

[It’s been a while since Pym’s been seen around the city. A combination of all-too-justified paranoia and a general lack of knowledge on the surrounding geography has contributed to that. The scant knowledge he has availed himself to isn’t all that comforting, considering his colleagues at the university seemed to know him before he even introduced himself, and the work left for him was already half-completed under his own name. An algorithm based on his own work on quantification of emotions has led him to discard the possibility of his previous stay being an impostor, and while that would be unsettling for most people, when you’ve gone through as many breakdowns and fugue states as Dr. Hank Pym, it becomes terrifying. The only question is, what did he do while he was here?]

Ah. Hello. This is Hank. Hank Pym.

I’ve already been filled in on the fact that somebody—err, that I was here for a while. I was wondering if somebody could fill me in on the details on what I did during that time.

[His not-so-subtle way of asking what he screwed up this time.]

Oh, also, I apologize if anyone has noticed an increase in ants around the dorms lately. I don’t really keep them in an enclosed space, so they seem to have scattered off while I was missing.

Hello.

[The voice that comes over the feed is distinctly English, and despite her mood, Peggy is polite. She wasn't going to reveal her status as an agent or indeed the SSR because Peggy didn't know who was listening.]

My name is Margaret Carter and like some of you, I am a recent arrival. It hasn't been easy, trying to adjust to my new circumstances and- [there's a pause.] - abilities. After reading the file I was given and speaking to others, I'm no closer to getting to the truth of this place and whom or what is behind it; if anyone has any more information or even a theory, please share. The more I know the better prepared I am for what's to come.

[Bringing people from different universes, both good and bad, and bestowing incredible powers upon them is a recipe for disaster in her mind. Already, Peggy has heard worrying details about the Swear in ceremonies.]

But I do know one thing for certain. I have no desire to stay here and I am determined to try to get everyone who wants to go home back to where they belong.

[There's a fire in her tone, like something has awoken inside of her and came rushing to the surface.]

You have my word.

[Qubit doesn't consider himself paranoid per se, but he is kind of a stickler for network security, so finding Mirrornet was a little like Christmas. So far he's been mostly lurking, but... after a surprise copious windfall of useful information, he's in a pretty good mood. Maybe it's time to throw his hat in the ring, see who picks it up.]

Evening, everyone. My name's Qubit. I know, I know, yet another newbie, but I have already looked over the FAQ, so no worries on that front. Fascinating stuff, really. Alternate timelines always are, but good heavens, if this one isn't a piece of work.

That said, I'd like to make a few requests. First: anything and everything you know about the Porter. Its operations, its patterns, any particular anecdotes... The more specific and technical, the better, but anything's fine. You never know; the most insignificant scrap of information might turn out to be the thread that unravels the entire mystery.
[as an afterthought-] Don't feel obliged to repeat Miss Bishop too closely, though, I have that in front of me already.

Second: I'm looking for lab space for a large electronics project. I can tell you in advance it's going to take a lot of power, so if there's already something to that effect set up, that would save me a lot of time. Should be fairly short-term regardless, though - I'm estimating two, maybe three weeks. PM if interested.

Third (or second-and-a-half): Anyone know a bad junkyard? That is, one where they let people dump batteries, monitors, old electronics, etc., especially in bulk? Location doesn't matter, although apparently I could get in trouble for going abroad, and God forbid I do anything to get in trouble.

Anyway, thanks in advance. Sorry I haven't any cute ASCII animals to offer, I hope that won't cause too many problems.

Hey. It's Thomas. It's... been a while, I guess.

[ For those that had been around when Thomas was here before, they might recognize him as the scrawny teenage kid who obsessively took notes and had really weird slang. Or you may not have met him at all. Either way, here he is, looking (still) a little rough for wear, and a bit more tired that usualy, but here. ]

Last thing I remember here was The Flare. Back-- [ 'home' is what's on the tip of his tongue, but there wasn't anything about that place that really ever was home to him, not in the time he can solidly remember. Outside of the Gladers, and, well, the ones that aren't here are already safe in a place far away from what he's talking about now. ] --where I came from, we never did figure it out - the cure. Least, not that I saw. Not without doing things that... That meant maybe we didn't deserve to survive it.

[ So many dead. Even with all he and Minho and Brenda got through the Flat Trans, how many never made it? How many died in the trials before them? Thomas can still here the low, sickening moans of the Grievers, still remembers the smell of burning flesh, still feels the earth shake from the heavy concrete wall of the Maze crumbling on top of a huddled group of terrified Immune. He clears his throat, continuing. ]

Anyway, I wanted to say thanks. I was kind if a slinthead at the time and never got it out before I left, but you guys saved my best friend when-- [ When I couldn't. When I didn't. Here, Newt would have a chance. Not back home. Here, Thomas would never have to read that note from him, and never have to hear his best friend pleading for him to end his misery. This is harder than he'd thought it'd be, so he abandons that line of thought. ]

Yeah, that's it. Just wanted to tell you guys that. Anyway, looks like I'll be around for a while longer, so, Kate and the rest of you guys, lemme know if I can help. Kitty too. [ he breathes in, and lets out a slow exhale. ] Teresa... We need to talk.

And Loki, if you still got that shucky club if yours, mind if I get my job back?

Everyone else - Hi. I'm Thomas.

Some of you will have just received notice, as I have, that Unsettled imPorts will now be subjected to new restrictions and requirements. Since I doubt it is in the government's plans to explain the ramifications and implications of what they've just done, I've decided to take it upon myself, so that everyone understands exactly where we stand and what this might mean. So, to start: my name is Matt Murdock. I've been an attorney in both New York and California for nearly fifteen years, primarily a criminal defense attorney, with a fair amount of experience in cases dealing with what we could call "superpowers." I've been here well over a year now, practicing in Heropa, Florida, long enough to start to see how things work, and where the flaws in the system are.

The secretary of defense, Lacey Chases, has been a person of interest ever since her announcement she made a month ago regarding legislation. However, while I've seen much speculation about her and the government's intentions towards imPorts, I've seen every little information about the woman herself. With that in mind, I've decided to take matters into my own hands and do a little digging. Here's what I've found so far.

>She was born June 1st, 1970, in Montana, the second out of three daughters. Her parents were patriotic and pro-military, and instilled in her a strong sense of nationalism and an interest in protecting her nation.

>In order to further her goals, she attended West Point Academy from 1989-1991, graduating at the top of her class. In 1992, she took part in Operation Provide Comfort, a military initiative to defend Kurdish refugees and provide them humanitarian aide in the wake of the Gulf War. After her tour and a brief stay at home, she was then stationed at Haiti from 1984-1985. She worked in military intelligence during her tours in the Middle East and Haiti.

>She was eventually promoted to the rank of colonel, and by 2002, she was working under the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics. A few years afterward, she was working as the Deputy Secretary of Defense. In January of 2013, she was nominated as Secretary of Defense, and approved by the United States Senate in a vote of 90-8.

>L. Chases also happens to be a very private woman. She doesn't share details about her personal life easily, and there's no sign of a spouse or children. "Married to the job" is how some people would describe her.

>Most importantly, she has been a supporter of imPorts for some time now. While she hasn't stated her opinions explicitly, she has shown strong support for pro-imPort legislation that has been passed over the past year, and has a strong interest in building a better working relationship between imPorts and the American people. In other words, this woman is not our enemy, and can be a powerful ally. It would be in our best interests to learn as much about her as we can, before we write her off completely.

Because the universe has piled us into this place, where things just happen, usually when you're trying to deal with all kinds of other things that just happened, piled on top of a sundae of people you love getting afflicted with stuff and people you like disappearing, which is of course topped with the Big Brother is watching you cherry, I would really like to suggest some kind of 4th of July cookout.

And you know it's bad when I am suggesting a 4th of July cookout. But whatever, if it rains I'll work up some spell to move it around or someone who can manipulate weather, if they want to help, they can do that, and we can get a big projector somehow and play really classic old movies from the thirties or something and I'll....make fireworks. Plus food.

I'm just starting to find this all oppressively oppressive and I'm not a...party person, I guess, but I figure this is probably easy enough, right?

If I'm wrong don't correct me.

I've been an attorney for fifteen years. And I'll admit there were times when I thought about running for DA, or for mayor, but I've never really been a policy-maker. Maybe it's because so many policy-makers seem to make decisions with their heads firmly entrenched somewhere— you can fill in where on your own— because sadly, it seems like nobody has bothered to learn anything from history. Not their own, and not ours. Which, when you've had the catastrophic champion of a previous registration attempt hanging around drooling to toss in his two cents, the opportunity is quite clearly there. I'm sure he'll have something to say any minute.

[ Matt hopes he does. Matt sure as hell has a lot to say to him, right now. But he carries on in the calm, courtroom voice in the meantime. ]

So let's talk about all the things they didn't mention in that press release, because I for one would like to know:

- How are they going to enforce this effectively without tracking everyone's status extensively?
- How extensively have they been tracking this in the first place?
- How is a registered imPort going to know that the possible costumed Import is or isn't a vigilante? "Let's you and him fight"? I can see the lawsuits piling up already.
- How will they know who to target?
- Where is the oversight for this program? Who is giving the orders and passing out the information? How do we know that they're getting it right and not just adding names on a list?
- Alternatively, haven't they just handed registered imPorts license to go after who they want?
- What reasonable basis is there to consider that "registration" is an effective criteria for trusting that an individual has the training or effective judgment necessary to be trusted with what is essentially a law enforcement task? Is that really a trustworthy reason to believe someone can carry out their job?

And, most importantly:

- When mistakes are made, who the hell's going to be held accountable?

You see, I was there when the Superhuman Registration Act passed in my universe, and I was there when they tried to pass registration acts for mutants again and again before that. And when the costumed community turned on itself, it wasn't always heroes bringing in their former friends. They allowed criminals to become part of the program to hunt down the noncompliant based on a flimsy pretext— people who had spent lengthy periods in jail, mass murderers and a cannibal alien and a mad man who put on a goblin costume and went on to blow up Asgard. So you'll forgive me if I don't look at this and think it's an effective solution to the problem. Because I want to know the details. I want to know that this isn't going to become the same unconstitutional, poorly-organized clusterfuck I've already witnessed once.

[Kate actually knows she shouldn't do this. She knows she shouldn't, but she goes ahead and does it anyway.]

A year ago, I made a post on here. I talked about a different world, and I talked about a different registration act. In my world, good people who refused to register were assaulted, brought down, and meant to be delivered to a dangerous and terrible prison until they submitted. My friends and I were among the first to refuse to register, and we were lucky enough to be rescued. I never registered, and it turned out that everything associated with the act was ... bad.

For that reason, among others, I've refused to register here. We don't belong in this world, and our hands are being forced on the matter. The government has used us without divulging information openly, and they've even put us into psychological games. Just last April, everyone was asked to play a game. Did you feel like a rat in a cage? And last June, people were asked to play a war game without being told of the very real consequences: that with every shot, we'd feel what it was like to have a real bullet tearing into us. And at the end of the game, you either won or you experienced true death before you woke up.

[Her voice here intensifies in its anger.]

And now ... now, a year later, we're in another game. We're in the reality of that paintball game. See, it was imPort versus imPort, and here we are again. We're having our hands forced because even if we've been helping one another, and helping the citizens of the world, we should be brought in. None of the vigilantes I know kill. We all help, doing what we can, and it's the government who defines our behavior, and who decides that we should adhere to their laws. And why? Is there any reason that we should? We didn't consent to these tattoos. We've been going along with what they've wanted for ages.

So, this is what I'm asking the government to do. You have the list of vigilantes. Why don't you bring us in yourself? Why use other imPorts? You can capture us, right?

Because honestly, that's what I'd like to know. Obviously, you want something for this, so everyone, let's guess! Because it looks like they want a Civil War among us. I guess they really didn't think it through, even with cautionary tales already ready in their midst.

[When she cuts the feed, it switches to text, providing a link to her previous words on the matter. Cautionary tales are even sourced!]

ATTENTION IMPORTS!

After recent events, effective in June we are implementing the following new security measures:

As of June 1st 2015, all imPorts, Registered, Unsettled or otherwise, will not require prior permission from the United States government to travel abroad and instead will be able to utilize their tattoos as passports. When imPorts are to check in at the airport, they will be required to do so under a special censor designated for them and cooperate with airport security. Unregistered imPorts will not be considered an American citizen if they are to travel out of the country, and as such are strongly advised to behave themselves while in another country's jurisdiction if at their own risk they are leaving American soil and protection. Should any imPort who is not Registered find themselves in legal trouble outside American borders, they will be subjected to the extent of the law as the foreign country sees fit. Any imPort who is out of the US for two weeks or more, however, will have their statuses altered and considered AWOL.

In order to encourage and foster better communications between law enforcement and imPorts, effective immediately the Federal Government is granting official charge of handling Unsettled vigilantism to Registered imPorts in the hopes of curbing this behavior for the time being. Local authorities will also continue to make steps to allow for accessible employment and opportunities to advance for imPorts working within law enforcement or similar occupations, including allowing those imPorts to form their own committees.

As many imPorts are aware, your local imPort Ambassadors have received funding for imPort-specific training facilities in their respective cities. We encourage imPorts to take full advantage of these facilities in order to help them understand their brand new powers and practice combative and defensive techniques. We would like to encourage those with military backgrounds to assist in this venture, as well as having them cover information on duck and cover methods and fallout shelters.

As of Wednesday evening, former imPort Affairs Liaison Captain Parc Holiday will be released from psychiatric care and returning to his home. He will not be returning to his post in Cape Canaveral. Due to his fragile condition, he will also not be accepting visitors. Should anyone wish to get in contact with him they are requested to wait an appropriate period of time to allow him to settle back into his home.

If you're a student at Xavier's School for Imports, this is a quick PSA that I'll be your new student counsellor from now on — it's been rehiring, obviously, and won't be closing, or so I've been told. Should you need to talk then come and find me, you don't need an appointment! I also teach Physics and Data Programming, so if you want an intro to either of those make sure you attend class over the next few weeks. When you can't find me in the classrooms or labs, come by the offices and one of the other teachers will give my phone a call.

[ About to sign off with a smile, she remembers to flatly add, ] Oh, and if you're going to lie about why you haven't done your homework? Don't. You'll get double just like the brave soul from the Tenth Grade yesterday.
