Are we... really back on Earth?

[ There's a pause, almost silence as he thinks about what he wants to say next. He was going to have to figure things out first. There was a lot different then he remembered -- which had to mean it wasn't their Earth. But was that possible? ]

I guess I should introduce myself. [ That's something Shiro would say right? Ugh. Terrible idea. ] My name is Keith, and I'm a Paladin of Voltron.

Does anyone even know what Voltron is? This was a stupid idea. [ He mutters to himself, unfortunately just loud enough for the microphone to pick up. ]

THE MAJORITY REPORT: APRIL 10TH, 2017
Holy narcolepsy, Batman! A pandemic sleeping sickness has been sweeping the streets, dropping imPorts right and left. What sort of new medical terror is this? Where's the Prince Charming to kiss these fallen beauties out of their slumber??

HE WAS ICE SK8TER BOY
As seen in on BlueTube, Bwitter, Rumblr:
W O W!!

A new viral video of an impromptu figure skating exhibition has been making the rounds on social media lately, and it is stunning. Who knew something as simple as skating could be this moving? And to see something so beautiful coming from such a cranky little kitten, astounding!

Do yourself a favor and watch it here. You won't regret it.

TENDER HEARTS
As seen in Bwitter, Rumblr, and all the good gossip tabloids:
Is there anything more wonderful in this world than young love?

Certainly not, if recent developments are anything to go by! What seemed to begin as an budding friendship between imPorts, students at a local middle school eagerly report, seems to have blown into a full-fledged secret romance!

According to classmates Hinami Fueguchi and Yuuto Kidou, both imPorts and students of Nonah Middle School, always seemed to have what was described as a "formal, kind of uneasy" friendship. But are things looking up? Their fellow students seem to think so!

Over the last few weeks we have been informed, some of that formality seems to have been disregarded. Though Mr. Kidou seems to have opted to remain with last names (What a gentleman!), Ms. Fueguchi is reported to have begun to call him by the nickname "Kikkun", though none of their classmates seem to be sure where exactly the nickname came from.

As if that wasn't enough to get some middle school gossip going, the two were involved in what students described as a rescue so brave and romantic, it deserves its own movie moment! With the apparitions plaguing our cities this past March, even our younger imPorts weren't spared the trouble. According to onlookers, Mr. Kidou spotted Ms. Fueguchi cornered by one and valiantly cleared out the students so he could run to her rescue! Perhaps he wanted to be the only one around to do so? What a dedicated young man!

Though the pair have denied the relationship when asked about it, classmates were insistent that it was nothing more than a cover meant to protect Mr. Kidou from the potential wrath of Ms. Fueguchi's notoriously protective older brother, Ken Kaneki. Some even reported spotting the two meeting up after classes under the guise of studying, and Mr. Kidou gifting Ms. Fueguchi with numerous treats, from sweets to lunches.

Students also reported that Ms. Fueguchi had been receiving love letters from an admirer in her locker for many months. Has the secret admirer perhaps finally come forward?

What's next for this young couple? Sign up for updates and find out!

A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME
As seen in local Maurtia Falls newspapers and heard on talk radio:
They poison them in the wild. They poison them in the park. It's hard being a pigeon in 2017. On Sunday 9th, an unprecedented number of pigeons were found poisoned in Maurtia Falls Municipal Park, done in with a squirrel or two. No other animals appeared affected. Park keepers gave no explanation for the cause, other than to say, "we condemn this impiety and lack of propriety and remain convinced the culprit made off with a dead pigeon or two."

Is it against your religion to poison pigeons in the park, imPorts? Call, bweet, or e-mail us with your comments.

I SOLOMONS SWEAR I AM UP TO NO GOOD
As seen in national and local news:
Alfie Solomons, cooking show host extraordinaire, has been arrested for bank robbery! Shock, gasp! Though there is video proof along with witnesses (as well as a lot of whispering that this isn't the first time he's been involved in illegal dealings) and though he wasn't able to provide an alibi, he maintains his innocence, claiming that someone must have either doctored the footage and tampered with the witnesses in some way (implanting false memories, paying them off, etc.) or disguised themselves as him. Despite the best efforts of his lawyer, there was not sufficient evidence to dismiss the case outright, and so it will be proceeding to trial.

THE APPLE DOESN'T FALL FAR
As seen national news, but no one really pays attention to it because it's in the science section:
The CDC reports that investigation into the very brief apple famine is ongoing. It is accurate to conclude that no imPort was behind the incident. Rumors that this was a biogenetic testing sample gone wrong persist, much to the dismay of the CDC and other government facilities.

CODE SWITCH
The Homeland Security Advisory System has moved from SOLAR ECLIPSE to OF THE HEART in honor of Dorian Gray's probably accidental sacrifice.

WANT TO SUBMIT TO THE MAJORITY REPORT?
The Majority Report comes out the 10th and 20th of every month. You may find details and submit here. The cut-off time is 12:01 AM PST on the 9th and the 19th for the corresponding dates.

Do imPorts get medical benefits?

[It's a strange question to ask the network, but none of his research is really helping, and he figures that if imPorts have been here for at least three years, they've had to have regular medical checkups. After all, he certainly doesn't know where to start when it comes to actually going out and asking doctors.]

Vision. Dental.

Are these jobs the Americans give out for real? I thought after school coaches were all volunteers. Are people really going to pay for that?

Another question: what's the deal with America and Russia? Kind of doubt I'm going to get a straight answer out of these two.

[There's an image attached to the message—a candid shot of a pair of shameless lovebirds. Yurio can be seen at the very edge of the image looking decidedly unimpressed with them. Don't they know there are serious issues to discuss??]

[ The video opens on two young men sitting side by side on a couch, set up to address the camera together. One is younger, Japanese, with dark hair and glasses; he is way, way less enthused about this than the platinum blond Russian dude waving enthusiastically at the video feed. ]

Um … well … I’m … Katsuki Yuuri. [ He trails off, mumbling more about himself, but it doesn’t quite make it to the microphone. He seems wildly uncomfortable to be doing this. The last phrase sounds something like “nice to meet you” but it’s hard to tell. ]

[ The Russian chooses that moment to sling an arm around the shoulders of his embarrassed companion and lean on him a bit, his heart-shaped smile and handsome face gorgeous enough to be in a fashion magazine. He looks into the camera with no hesitation at all. ]

Hiii! [ he proclaims brightly, his Russian accent becoming more evident as he talks. ] I’m Viktor Nikiforov, and I’m Yuuri’s figure skating coach! We just finished our biggest competition of the year, the Grand Prix Final, and we just wanted to reach out to our fans to thank them all for their support!

[ Yuuri chokes at that, his next comment coming out as a squawk. ]

-- Eh!? VIktor, this is a different dimension! We don’t have fans here!

But we can get NEW fans! [ Viktor winks at the camera before he turns his head to look at Yuuri mischievously. ]

Wh - Viktor, no! We don’t know anyone! Not in public--!

[ And then the feed goes down as Yuuri manages to knock it over before Viktor throws himself at him. ]

You'd think that with there being four of us ordering at least one of us would get our name right, right?

l o l no

[Attached to the post is a selfie of teens showing off their favorite signature holiday drinks, but the focus of the picture are the names -- confidently scribbled across the cup of each drink are Grant, Kenneth, Utah, and Moore, and anybody who knows these boys will know that those are pretty much the 4kids dub version of their names at best.]

Well. Sort of started working at his job. With his school and sports schedule, he's had to currently work around it in a lot of ways, and he really started emphasizing the 'part' in part-time. It didn't leave much room for training, to be honest. And the most he could really show up for was signing papers and watching videos on how to behave around kids.

He lived with kids, too. So this wasn't exactly new to him.

But now here comes the fun part. The video opens to him sitting on the steps to King Pong, paddle in hand as he idly taps it against his palm.]

So. I'm...supposed to be a Ping-Pong instructor here. I don't mind it, the kids are nice, and the staff is kind to me. But I was just wondering...

...Does anyone know how to play Ping-Pong?

[ hinami didn't go to school today. she couldn't bring herself to. even just waking up was a trial she hadn't wanted to face, even though it was inevitable. ]

I was going to ask what they did in other worlds to  [ mourn ]  honor loved ones, but it wouldn't feel right even if I tried them.

So I was just wondering what everyone else's mother's were like?

My mother was a wonderful woman. She was very kind, and always smiled even when things were hard.

Even though I couldn't go to school, and she hadn't either, she taught me to read and write as much as she could. She'd look at my book every day and say "please do your best!". No matter how many times I messed up a kanji, she never got mad or frustrated.

She made most of my clothes by hand, made them like hers because she knew I liked it. Sometimes she even made them out of her own, even if she still loved wearing them.

...I don't have any pictures of her or a family altar to burn incense and pray for her. So I wanted to remember the good things about her.

The way she held my hand even after people asked if I was too old for it, or made sure I was under the umbrella even if it meant she got rained on. Her and my father always seemed so happy together, even though he was always busy with work.

The days we could all three be together are my favorite. I don't want to ever forget those things, even if they're small.

[ she will still burn incense and pray, of course, but...it won't feel the same. especially not in a world where Ryoko Fueguchi never even existed.

maybe talking about her here is the only way to reaffirm she did at all. to know that someone beyond herself and Kaneki are aware she existed beyond a memory in an alley.

When Homeworld started investigating this system, we checked all the stars near potential colonies for stability. Everyone was really excited about this planet because its sun had a pretty decent lifespan, so we wouldn't have to do any shielding for a while.

[or. something. Lapis never really paid any particular attention to the reports that came in about earth, because why would she? it was just a little mudball in some podunk galaxy.]

Is that not how it works on this earth? I can't really think of why else you'd be trying to ration sunlight, but...it's kind of stupid. Unless you're storing it somewhere to use later it's not going to make any difference, and I really don't think humans have that kind of technology yet.

[at least not on this version of the planet, anyway. she really has no idea what 'daylight savings time' could mean aside from this, and it's got her completely mystified. that at least is a familiar feeling when it comes to humanity, even if it's not all that pleasant.]

You guys don't even have that much time to start with. Do you really need to complicate it this much?

[and if the sun is dying...why bother squabbling between insubstantial nationstates when there was such a big problem looming over them all? it was all so dumb.]

[ Dorian's sitting down on a small, jet black armchair, tucked in the corner of an all too busy bedroom. There's a bookshelf stacked to the brim with books to the left and a medium sized oil painting hanging on the wall, a Romantic seascape with more emphasis on the clouds than the water, clouds painted in dark, stormy, gray brushstrokes. Dorian gives the camera a small nod, then starts to read from a book, in an even, measured tone, perfect for audiobooks. ]

"It was the strangest book that he had ever read. It seemed to him that in exquisite raiment, and to the delicate sound of flutes, the sins of the world were passing in dumb show before him. Things that he had dimly dreamed of were suddenly made real to him. Things of which he had never dreamed were gradually revealed." [ There's a pause, while Dorian flips the pages and continues reading. ]

"'I am so sorry, Harry,' he cried, 'but really it is entirely your fault. That book you sent me so fascinated me that I forgot how the time was going.' 'Yes, I thought you would like it,' replied his host, rising from his chair. 'I didn't say I liked it, Harry. I said it fascinated me. There is a great difference.'"

[ Dorian closes the book, as he looks to the camera. There's a hint of a melancholy tone in his voice as he continues—somebody's obviously been lost in memory. ] Words written by Oscar Wilde—today's his birthday, by the way. [Endou is never really one to waste time when it comes to his passions. He'd spent the last few days going to the park and generally just kicked a ball around himself. It wasn't the same. It wasn't that he couldn't do it alone, he had done plenty of training by himself back in the old days, before his soccer club really picked up the same passion for soccer he had...and that's really when it hit him. [The video opens up on a familiar attic, with everyone's favourite nerd waving at the camera. For some reason there's what looks like a dummy with its arms raised and a sheet over it. Spooky?]

Hey, everyone! Dipper Pines again. It's October now, which means a bunch of things. Like... pumpkins! Big piles of leaves! Fake skeletons everywhere! I mean, along with the real ones. That... everyone has. Never mind.

Anyways, I'm here to talk to you about ghost protection. Things can get kind of spooky during October but if you're prepared, you won't have anything to worry about. You can focus on costumes and candy corn and... mid-terms. Maybe? Do any imPorts go to college?

First thing! This is a classic supernatural deterrent that you should already have on hand: salt. Basically you just kind of put in a circle around whatever you want to protect from demons or whatever. I don't think it works for really strong ones, but it'll keep most things out. Plus you can just buy the kind you use for salting your driveway.

If you already have a ghost inside your house, the best thing you can try is to trap it in a silver mirror. That part's pretty you just kind of-- [At this point, Dipper makes a sucking sound.] To get rid of it, there's a ritual and stuff. I'll put uh, a link at the bottom. Don't break the mirror or let the ghost talk its way out. For real. You might get turned into a tree.

Okay and seriously, don't do a seance. Ghosts are really annoying and talking to them doesn't do much, plus you're probably just going to end up with more. Silver mirrors are expensive!

That's pretty much it! Let me know if you have any questions, and avoid cursed doors. They either lead to another plane of existence or it's just instant death. You'll know them when you see them.

[It's early in the morning when the post goes up. The feed turns on to show a girl who looks to be about fourteen or fifteen years old. That's about the only thing 'ordinary' looking about her; the rest of her appearance is anything but -- bright blue hair, matching eyes, and a grey and white suit that makes her look like some escaped actress from a tacky sci-fi show. If she is, she sure seems to still be acting the part despite being an escapee. Arms folded across her chest, eyes narrowed at the camera as if judging it...

She sighs once before she speaks, shoulders relaxing just slightly. It's not robotic, but the way she speaks is a near monotone, serious and low-voiced.]

From one Earth to yet another -- we certainly have a ways of ending up here, although this one seems to be in a sorrier state than the last one. To think I would be recruited in such a way...

I am Ulvida from the planet Aliea. I don't know how long we will be here, but I'll be in your care.

... More importantly, while I have a few questions about surviving on this Earth, there is one I want to start with.

[And now she finally moves from her spot, picking up the camera and moving through the room she's in -- a kitchen in one of the imPort homes, from the looks of it. She doesn't linger on any one part very long, but there are three distinct places she pauses: a trash bin now full of half-finished take-out foods and 16oz bottles of soda; a sad-looking pantry that has maybe a jar of Nutella and a bunch of cup ramen; a fridge that is more empty space than food.

When the camera turns back to Ulvida, her serious expression has fallen apart to be replaced by pure exasperation.]

A certain idiot from my planet has been living here with an unacceptable lack of proper sustenance.

I am currently in the city of De Chima. I would like to know where to acquire what you would call 'groceries' on Earth.

Well, wait. He gives a little wave, first, then it's back to work. ]
You know, I... I should've figured out what I was going to say before I came on here to say it. What I want to ask about is hard to put into words.

I, uh-- I've only been here, like, two months, and I've already had a couple of people I know up and disappear. So that's kinda a bummer, especially 'cause one of 'em's somebody from my world. [ No. Wait a second. ] Well. Somebody from my universe. Or from my dimension? Anyway! You get what I mean. She's kind of important, and a main driving force behind what we're supposed to be doing, and--

I don't know. I feel bad. Well, obviously, I'd feel kinda cruddy about that, but it's more than that. I'm torn, I guess? I wanted to enjoy all of the time of Earth I could get, but I also can't quite get my mind off of the fact that we're supposed to be halting an alien empire. Then there's the fact that this Earth isn't quite right, that the locale isn't exactly mine, and-- I dunno'. Pointless discontent, right? What can you do?

Okay. Sorry. I'm rambling. Uuuh... So. What am I looking for, here? Like... Pick-me-ups? Advice? Suggestions?

So, I had an idea. Why don't we have a meetup this weekend? You know, for everyone who's still going to school. That way, we can all get to know people who understand what it's like to be an imPort.
