My world only knew of one, and aspects of it were taught to us as nothing more than fairy tales. That way, when it became a reality, it could still be a way to teach us fear, and make us fall in line.

That changed, that fear, but the gods themselves never fully went away until my comrades and I slowly took care of them.

Of course, killing gods isn't something that needs to always be at play, but in my opinion, it's better to have gods who don't involve themselves in people's lives than ones who do. ... But even that opinion is a new one. I'd been rather resolved to live without gods.
