An apology that Walter believes he's owed as Will had offended him by insinuating he was like Crane in his methods -- cold and callous, priding himself over victories without a care in the world for his victims. Walt wasn't a sadist in his own eyes, and what he had done to Chilton in the past had been justified -- lessons taught, but not necessarily ones where anything was learned by Chilton.
But Will's chosen method of attack is effective in that it's offering a point to relate to. And Walter White always strives to relate to others. ]
