Because that's never how things turn out. Life's never as easy as working your hardest and being rewarded with some big pay-off of peace and happiness. It's working your hardest to survive, and maybe scrape out a little safety for half a minute 'til the next bloody threat rolls around, that's what life is. Swelling birdsong and dance numbers never come into it.
