[ Adachi is fidgeting, looking uncertain at the camera and trying not to be legitimately upset right now. ]

Hey, anyone in De Chima... have you seen a tallish Japanese guy? Older than me, permanent stubble, probably smoking? Always carries his coat over his shoulder? Red tie like this?

[ He flipped up his crooked tie so people can see it well enough. ]

I was talking to him yesterday. He said he was supposed to be here, but...

[ ...he is really trying not to be upset here. Don't toy with his emotions like this, weird American place, that's totally not fair. ]

It's Peggy by the way. You may not remember me but we spoke a few months ago, Detective Adachi.

[ Vaguely; he had been pretty smashed the last time they talked. ]

His name is Ryotaro Dojima. He's, uh... h-he's my partner from home. I was talking to him just yesterday.

[ There were a few things in his existence that Adachi wasn't a complete dick about. Dojima and his family were one of them. ]

What is his name? It'll be easier to find him if I know that, as well.

I heard that there's a way to tell if people have been deported. I realize that it's not something easy to accept, but there's... that possibility, as well.

Yeah, and I was just at the place he said he was staying at, but it's empty. No one's lived here for years.

I... wouldn't be too upset if that were the case. He does have a little girl back home.

[ The frown can practically be heard in his voice. ]

I was kinda surprised to see him here yesterday. I don't know why the heck he didn't immediately ask to be sent back.

In that case, it may be better for him to return home, yet you have my sympathies all the same.

[ Though, the next words draw a pause from Mikleo. ]

He may have had his reasons to stay here. I won't claim to know him, but the two of you know one another, don't you?

He's my partner back home; we're detectives, so.

That's odd. [She's thoughtful for a moment.] Your friend, does he have any enemies? Anyone who may want to hurt him?

[ He could be asking for someone elses's sake for all he knows. ]

I see. If he's been sent back, you may be sent back with him soon.

Dojima-san? [ He couldn't help but laugh at that. ] Nah, not that guy. He's the straight and narrow detective, you know? If anyone would have enemies, it'd be m--

[ He cut himself off immediately, his face instantly going pale. Oh man, their conversation had been public, and it was pretty obvious he was friendly with his partner. If someone did something... ]

[ Dammit. Just... dammit. ]

...sent back, hunh? Sent back...

[ He should have been happy to go back to his world, even if he knew what he had coming to him, but... ]

[ He went back to a sheepish smile almost immediately. ]

Ah heh... w-well, that would be cool, right?

...?

[ There's a pause on Mikleo's end. He's taken notice of the uncertainty in his voice. ]

-- I suppose so.

[ Ah. How best to approach this? Based on his reaction she will likely need to approach it as delicately as possible. Rather than pushing him for answers about what he just said, Peggy does something else. ]

Did I overstep my bounds? I'm sorry if I did.

Ah... no.

[ He let out a breath, rubbing at the back of his neck. ]

Just... realizing how much of a pain in the ass I can be for my partner, that's all.

Seems to me that you care a lot about him. Even if you believe you can be a pain in his arse sometimes.

[ She offers him a soft smile. ]

I hope he's all right.

[ Adachi managed a small, sheepish smile. ]

Ah, well... I am his idiot rookie partner, you know? Well, not... that much of a rookie, but...

We all have to start somewhere. Have confidence in yourself and in your abilities.

You'll do fine.

[ Oh boy; Peggy, do you really want to be that nice to this guy? Adachi stared a moment, a hint of pink creeping into his face. ]

Ah... h-heh. Thanks, uh...

[ He paused awkwardly. ]

Uh... I don't think I caught your last name.

[ And if he was told it, he... had been too drunk to remember it. ]

[ It's a curse. ]

Carter. My last name is Carter.

[ Come to think of it, Peggy can't remember if she told him her surname before. ]

Ah, okay. Carter-san, thank you.

[ With a sweet and innocent, goofy smile like this, how could he be anything but sincere? ]
