Too weak indeed...but he couldn't allow that to stop him. To quit would be to allow the injustice in the world, and all the evil that perpetuates it, to exist freely and without anyone to do anything about it. That's not delusional. It's...his responsibility. The only thing that he has left after everything else has been stripped away.
Which is of course the reason he suffers internally with the mistakes he's made along the way. Very large, very grave mistakes, ones for which there are no amends. But the deeper he buries those struggles...the further from the light they are to monsters like Haise. It's better that way. The beasts of the world aren't those he needs to answer to, besides.]
