[Richie is excited but nervous, unsure what to expect from this new world and all of the people in it. But mostly excited. He’s never gotten to dimension hop before! And people say that Virgil gets all the fun. Not that it doesn't completely suck that all of his tech is back home. Couldn't they have brought him when he was in costume? Of course not that would be too easy.

Yo, man, this place is off the chain, but I’m pretty sure my mom is against me traveling out of town on my own, let alone to an alternate universe. I hope I get a note to take home that says “We apologize for taking your son on an interdimensional field trip without prior permission. Next time make sure to pack a lunch.” [He holds out his hand a bit like he’s reading something on it but then turns his eyes back to the screen.]

I’m sure the Justice League would have been all over this. Saving universes is their thing. Me? I have a math final to study for. But I’m here, so who else is a world-hopping newbie? I can’t be the only one around.

We are revived. We have nanites on our bloodstream, compliments of our hosts, and when we die here, they will work to "repair" our bodies and will bring us back to life through the use of an element called continuum.

They can bring us back to life? Crap. With the tattoo thing? [He holds up his arm a bit for the camera. Richie had figured it was something put into his skin for it to be so visible and yet not actual ink.]

And all they want is us to protect the country from...whatever we're supposed to be protecting it from? With the chance of dying, maybe more than once and not knowing when we're going home. That's jacked up.

The tattoo is formed by the nanites, so yes. You could say they are stored there, but it's a bit more scientific than that.

They do asks us to protect this country against the Soviet Russia, however it's just a request which you can refuse. In all honesty, they never asked us to be here, but of course they'd find some us for us.

[Richie is all about the science. And having nanites in his body without permission is not something he's down with. He's got enough alien tech in his body that he didn't ask for. But he's still putting on the surprised, dumb kid face because he doesn't know this guy or this world and who might be here that he doesn't want knowing what he's about.]

Soviet Russia hasn't been a thing since the 80s. Talk about living in a sci-fi movie. Or a comic book. I know I said I wanted to live the comic book life one day, but this isn't what I had in mind.

It does. Who wants to have to go hunt down all of this? I could be finding the nearest arcade. If I don't have to worry about finals, I can at least brush up on my zombie hunting skills.

There are also a couple of FAQ floating around, written by imPorts. They aren't exactly up to date, but if you ever feel like reading: here and here.

But you only worry about the finals if you enroll in school. and zombies... well, sometimes.

There was some sort of zombie outbreak, but it's fixed.

it wasn't the soviets. usually these things are thanks to imPorts doing some experimentation and things going wrong.

Sadly, those "evil dudes" usually get locked up for like two months, and they're released again. There is no actual working law system for the imPorts.

Sounds about the same as back home. No one ever stays locked up. Even bang babies are breaking out of juvie every couple of months.

Usually when someone tries to kill everyone, we expect more than just a slap on the wrist an two months in jail. That's how it normally is in most worlds.

Yeah, you can send them to jail, but if you know they'll find a way of breaking out, it's almost like what's the point? Hoping for rehabilitation isn't that bad either, ya know? They want us to save the country, they don't want to make everyone too mad at them.

But anyway, that just means we have to keep our eyes out.

They don't really break out here, mostly because of the nullifiers. But ImPorts only get 2 months jail at best, even with those.

We are special.

[Richie doesn't like the sound of it. It's too preferential, the ImPorts having all this power and barely any consequences. But he's supposed to be a regular teenager and sounding so opinionated about superhumans might get him some funny looks.]

Sounds really complicated. Too complicated for me to be trying to deal with, man. It almost makes me miss school. Almost.

I did same almost. Not sure I want to get stuck in class for hours a day if I don't have to.

Maybe if I get bored enough, I'll consider it.

Surprisingly, most people just try to do their normal lives - go to school, go to work, live normally.

You end up in an alternate universe and want to do everything just like back home? Where's the creativity around here?

There is a lot of excitement at first. But after being here for half year, it just dies off.
