From our perspective, people just disappear. From theirs, they get back home at the instant they left it, with no memories of being here--unless they come back. In that case they might or might not remember. That actually happened to me: my current six-year-stint is the only one I remember, but the first time I remember getting ported in, another imPort told me I'd already been there before. Never got those memories back.

Although, that other me could've been from a nearly but not quite identical alternate universe. It would explain the whole "being in a band" thing...
