ImPorts, is it?

[The young woman on camera looks stern and uncompromising- though that may just be the natural slant of her eyebrows, the usual set for her lips. Regardless, she takes a moment as if making sure she knows what she wants to say, and then squaring her shoulders, continues-]

We have been brought here for a purpose, and although the ends are a mystery, the fact that we are the means speaks volumes! So tell me-

[Tilting her chin up, she looks imperious- someone who's used to command, control- and with almost surprising charisma (and oh my god, is that backlighting? How?), continues-]

What will you do if the ends do not suit you? If they are less than savory? Will you continue to obey those who have brought us here?

[She settles back into her chair, folding her hands over each other, and raises her eyebrows.]

It's only right that I know what sort of people I am meant to cooperate with, after all.

And yet the one I must give is far from satisfactory.

Hardly. It is sensible, and moreover, it is earnest. There is no shame in saying exactly what you feel.

But it's not honest. This should not be a situation where one must be put in a position where one breaks one's word.

You cannot control that any more than you can control the future. All one can do is try to be prepared for future situations.

You cannot control whether or not you break your word? Hardly. One can always hold to one's promises.

Perhaps I should rephrase.

It is not whether you can keep your word or not, it is whether or not circumstances will remain in line with your ethics enough that keeping it will not do any harm. If keeping your word means compromising who you are, should you?

Hm. Ideally, one would not give one's word if breaking it would compromise who one is.

But I suppose things are rarely ideal.

Ideally, we would not be in a situation such as this, no?

I am certain you do what you can, if your resolve is earnest.

Hm. You say that despite not knowing me?

I say that because of the vehemence with which you seem to be against breaking a promise.

Hm. I could simply be pretending to feel so strongly.
