In leaving, they are as safe as they could possibly be from the vampire, and that thought can at least soften the blow. Dio will always find people to target, but anyone of Joestar blood historically got it worse.
Yet he hadn't expected Dio to be so angered as to lash out, not when he wasn't even throwing the first punch before. What does this mean? Will their absence embolden him to act out? Does he care about keeping up some reputation? Those aren't things he has the luxury to think about right now.
Particularly not in the moment when Dio goes in for a headbutt, to which Jotaro responds by dropping his head down and pushing his free hand against Dio's face to cushion the blow. It doesn't work quite as he planned, because it still connects and he can feel it hard on his head scar especially. Figures Dio would strike him in the same location he did back in Egypt, where he threw a knife right into the front of his skull.
