I think so, yeah. I haven't looked into the history of every country, but America and Russia are definitely different going back a few decades.
[Before that it's probably the same, but a few decades are enough to be unnerving.]
Sometimes I think it's like looking into a funhouse mirror. It's not what I expect to see.
