The year is 2018 and the Red Scare is alive and kicking. Worlds collide as we're brought here under mysterious circumstances, given gifts we couldn't dream to prepare for. Trapped without hope for escape we ask ourselves - will we ever see our homes again? Our loved ones? Will we embrace our new lives and is it a question of when - not if - that these powers turn on us? So many questions, and yet the biggest mystery is something else entirely.

it's not tangible to you bc you're not a believer, sounds like. my best friend/valkyrie sam is pretty devout to an omnix3 god, even though she's like, shepherding teen deaths like me to a pagan afterlife.

but i think that's a part of why the imPorts aren't a gang, too. no cultural/religious glues that would make it easy to fall into. it has to be something more than colours or traditions that hold them together, if they're going to hold together at all.

You're right. A gang doesn't come from nothing, it needs something to forge bonds in. Idk about your experiences, but joining the Serpents isn't easy. You have to fight for it.

If we want to stick together we need to do the work and idk if that's something everyone can do or wants.

i'm not looking to overwhelm, i'm looking to downplay my fucked up circumstances. which are all the depressing specifics i don't want them to ask about, because then i have to explain them, and they won't know how to react anyway.

i don't wanna hide who i am but the average person doesn't want to invest like that, i think. "my job is eternally dying" or "i'm from a doomed cosmos" makes people half-ass sympathy. i don't need it.

neither. i've seen what happens. the problem is port-outs. even if someone manages to create something good for the community, life is even more transient than usual here. like living on the street. sometimes people just disappear, along with whatever they were trying to build or do.

like i said, being an imPort heightens a lot. one of those things is how quickly and easily people can vanish.

There's a difference between downplaying and normalizing.
This is normal for us, sure, but not for them.
And even if they did ask you don't have to explain it to them?
You don't owe anyone anything, but if you give them enough info at the beginning they usually shut up.

If they're coming from a place that has the same basic pantheon ideas, they usually know enough to keep asking.
We're connected to a larger mythology and if you're going to start telling someone you're a 'demigod' you kind of have to give them the explanation around that too.
You're bigger than your "job" or your "cosmos".

idk. kind of the same shit i've always done? i've been living that cool transient after/life for a while. so i do what i can handle. i help who i can help. and i try not to make things worse, for anybody. i talk to imPorts who are smarter than me about the problems i think are important, who can try to make something that lasts. i don't think any of it's enough, but it's better than nothing. or buying in. or feeling totally useless or overwhelmed by it.

on the selfish side, i try to take advantage of being here. even with all it's problems it's a lot easier.
