[Nikolai's put effort into this; no shitty chatspeak, and he's tried to hide who this is. But he'll likely out himself, eventually.]

How would you deal with those from an alternate timeline of your world?

The Top 10 Naughtiest Uses Of ImPort Powers. Number 7 Will Shock You- Literally!

Good to know that clickbait is as ubiquitous here as it is back home, I guess, but it's making looking for writing jobs kind of a pain. I was assigned to be a bartender, but I've never actually done that before. At least I can change water into alcohol. That'll come in real handy when I'm doing superheroics, I'm sure. Get my enemies drunk and they won't want to fight me.

Speaking of powers, does it ever get any easier to use them? Changing into a goldfish in the shower this morning was amusing, but I'd rather that not happen when I'm serving a bunch of drunk superpowered people.

I'm Diane, by the way. Come by Taming of the Brew in De Chima if you want to see me potentially embarrass myself.

I've been trying to find ways to relax. I'm not really any good at it. Just came back from being at sea for two weeks, isolated from society. It was extremely pleasant.

[ and around this point there some links to show photographs he had taken. all very pleasant... if you ignore the starfish eating a fish at the end. ]

Now I'm back and I find myself lost in society and its stresses. I work 12 hour days and sleep about 6 to 7. Research is my only outlet, my field being in Marine Biology. That and watching too much true crime dramas, but watching serials about betrayal and murder might not be a healthy way of de-stressing. Allegedly.

So I'm fielding suggestions. I'm sure you're all a very calm and collected bunch who can be of help.

[ ... ]

On an unrelated note: fish don't smoke. And never will. Evolution doesn't work that way.

[ callout because that's just one of his recent stresses. ]

We're going to pretend that last post I made didn't happen. Ready? One, two, three, Riptidedidn'tfragupandoffendeveryone! There. Done.

Anyway, me and Tailgate - not Vos, Vos can go diving in the Sea of Rust - have really been trying quite hard to human right, but we don't seem to be getting it. So I'm doing something unprecedented...

How? How do humans... human?

[asking for help. amazing.]

( potential spoilers for season one of American Gods, if you'd like me to avoid any spoilers please just lmk in the subject line. )

What do you believe in? Really believe? What do you devote your time to?

( A pause; he's having a sip of cocoa. )

Now I've been here a few weeks, I've gotten to wondering about that. There's a lot here that's the same as back home, with a few obvious differences thrown in. Advertising, TV, that kind of thing. Back where I come from, what you spend your time on and what consumes your thoughts matters. There's a lot of shit you might not realise how much it matters to you. Mattering matters, if you want to make it sound like some bullshit affirmation.

So here's the thing: what if the reason we come through those porters with the powers we got is because people believe we will? What if we only start fighting crime or committing them because people believe we will?

( A long exhale, almost a verbal shrug. ) Or maybe it's bullshit. I dunno.

[These days, when Alfie gets on the network to make a post - not just a comment, but a full post - it's generally because he's at least a little bit drunk. Today is no exception. He's also even more grumbly and mumbly than usual, and that combined with his thick accent means he's also probably even harder to understand than normal, so apologies for that, world.]

Twelve months I've been here, now; that's edging toward outlier status, isn't it? Mm, yeah. I've seen people come, I've seen people go, I've made a call to invite someone over for dinner during the holidays only to find out they've fucking vanished into thin air overnight.

[Pour one out for Dr. Eldarov. He grunts, irritably, and then abruptly changes the subject.]

Right - but I've decided to quit my job. Yeah, that's gonna be my gift to myself for my one-year anniversary, and for the new year; my people's new year. And as such, I'll be taking bets on how long it'll be before they notice.

[Because of course he's not just going to call up and let them know he's leaving. He's made a hobby out of being irritating at work, so why stop now?]

It was a weekly thing, my radio show, so I'll take guesses at one week, two weeks, three, and so on. Winner, I'll buy a drink; whatever you like. Unless you're a kid or something, I dunno; then I'll buy you a lolly. I'd suggest getting your bets in before Sir Robot makes headway on his surely-doomed plan to destroy the porter and fucks everything up for a bit. Shanah fucking Tovah.

[It's 2 AM when this message pops up on the network—it had been meant for Lando's more private channel, but. Well. Considering Han's early morning texting habits, this was bound to happen at some point.]

hey Lando if you're still up I need some help

where are all the best places to take someone out for a classy first date

He doesn't wait for a response or even check if he posted it to the right place before he passes out for an hour or two. In the very near future, he's going to come to regret that.]

[ You know, Arthur was not actually intending to show his face on the network anytime soon, but circumstances kind of intervened. Okay, mostly it's just that he's bored and presenting an innocuous persona publicly is a good idea, even if he doesn't particularly want his face to be super recognizable to everyone. Oh well.

So for those who haven't seen him before, here he is, in all his glory. Maroon shirt, purple striped tie, no jacket, sleeves rolled up to his elbows, in the still pretty immaculate government housing provided to him because he just got here and also he sucks at personalizing his space. ]

Okay, I've only been here a couple of weeks but I've already had at least one person asking me for fashion advice, of all things, because I guess I'm an outlier here in actually knowing how to dress myself in something other than jeans and a henley.

[ Is he calling out someone specific there? You decide. ]

Nothing wrong with a good pair of jeans, but a friend of mine once said that any man over the age of seventeen really should own one decent suit and know how to tie his tie.

I feel it only sporting to warn you that I am going to be re-routing a small percentage of funds from various bank accounts in the next forty-eight hours.

I have little interest in hitting the personal accounts of my fellow imPorts, but those of you with large enough holdings in corporations probably won't miss much. Still, if you can make it a significant hassle I'll probably move on to softer targets.

[ There is a brief pause and then a quick follow-up. ]

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good tea cafe?

[ Because why wouldn't you give people a sporting chance to protect their money and ask about tea in the same message? ]

[OOC: Couple of notes:

1) Harold is literally only going to be getting very small sums from any one account. Like ... literal pocket change, as he is signifcantly capped for the amount he can purloin in a month.

2) From a PC perspective this is entirely opt-in. I have no expectation of Harold hitting ANY PC accounts, no matter what he says ICly, be they personal or corporate. However, if anyone would like to do something with this, feel free to hit me up here or if you want to talk specifics, PM me at [personal profile] the_admin

3) This is more of a lark, than any serious data breach. Bear eats expensive kibble!! ]

Three years ago, I arrived to this world, on this exact day. I have met many people, I've seen many go and return, though many don't remember ever being here. I have seen so much happening and I've lived through a lot. It's hard to keep a track of everything. I have done so much as well. [ and so much has been done to him, too. But he digresses ] - but I think what happened before we started arriving in 2014 is also important, and it's good to remember it from time to time.

The Porter was found in the Atlantic Ocean in 1985 and the first wave of imPorts arrived in 1986. Before this time, America was not the country you know; if you look at the history books, you won't find much information on America's 1984. Because of the extended tension between the United States and Russia, continuous attacks and an arms race, at the time there was an almost totalitarian government ruling over the country; citizens were arrested, brainwashed, they were spied on, censored and repressed at all times.

After finding the Porter and the first imPorts arrived, an imPort named Hernan Soñé, aka "Nova Man", brought to light the government's actions. From this, it snowballed: imPorts, native heroes, even some sectors of the military and the government - our current sponsors-, joined together to reform the militant corruption on going. This is why imPorts are seen as heroes: we are. We saved them from a very dark time and we helped them to have a brighter future. The reform ended around 1990's and everything worked well enough, with both native Heroes and imPorts working together to keep the country safe.

In 2008, everything changed again. There was a scientist - it's still questionable if he really was under Soviet orders. He built what he called a "Death Ray" on an island which has the name of Death Island. [ you can laugh because this sounds so silly, but it's not funny ] This ray was designed to counteract the active nanotechnology used to revive imPorts should they die.

In other words, it could kill imPorts permanently.

Seven imPorts were sent to investigate his island, most of them being teenagers and they were all killed. While the scientist was caught and taken in to custody, the imPort Benedict Katzenberg aka "Promise" executed the prisoner without orders. While he was court-martialed, the charges didn't stick, but again it was just a step to start a whole new chain of events.

A strong decline of costumed heroism and vigilante activity followed, due to accusations from imPorts, the natives, the native heroes and the government, each side claiming the death of these imPorts had happened because of the other. Heroes retired and the ones that remained became reckless, acted independently or opposed the law enforcement rather than alongside, and that caused for new laws to be made: native heroism and vigilantism became illegal, "Registered" and "Unsettled" became marks heroes had to wear, and by 2011 the government decided it was best for imPorts to go back to their home universes. Every imPort left and all native Heroes retired or went underground.

[ and finally: ] In 2014, the Porter started working again, without any notice. Lachesis infected the Porter and this world is once again receiving imPorts. That is us.

I hope this bit of history helps to explain why we are loved by most in this country, and helps us to remember this isn't just a dream. [ not for the natives, certainly. And also not for those seven imPorts who were killed back in 2008 ] If you have any questions, I can try answering. I was around when all of this was found out, but it was two years ago. My memory can be a bit shaky. [ except Kaneki has notes on everything so maybe not so much ]

[Lorna is sitting in a bakery. There's evidence of a recently consumed danish on the plate on the table between her and the phone's camera. Maybe that's why she looks so pleased. Or maybe it's because she's alive and sometimes that's a rush all its own.]

I thought I'd introduce myself, since I just got here and it seems like the thing to do. I'm Lorna Dane. It's pretty nice to be somewhere sunny. Or anywhere at all.

Anyway, I'm still a little fuzzy about things here. I don't know that I'll get over being accepted by the population at large anytime soon. That's definitely not how it is back home. I wonder what else is different that people don't know to tell me about.

On the one hand, I want to know if there are people from home here so I can either catch them up on the gossip or be caught up myself. On the other hand, I think this might be a really good time to make a break with my old life and try something new for a change.

I'm a publicist now, which is going to take some adjustment. Still, it's nice to have a civilian job again.

I don't really have a point to make, I guess. Just that I look forward to getting to know people and hopefully things will be less ridiculous than home here.

the school year's barely begun and i've already landed in detention

i mean it is kinda my fault and at least the guidance counselor here is better than Mr. Frond was

[some time later, she adds:]

And i just got 2 days tacked on for being caught on my device

so I guess my point is I'm full of all this frustration and aggression & I'm not used to feeling this way so how do i try and burn it off?

[ The audio function on this is remarkably similar to her show, with just a more limited audience. But this is Trish's element. This is where she shines. ]

Those of you who didn't have powers before coming here -- is it something that you dreamed of back home? Did... [ She pauses to find the right word. ] ..."gifted" people exist where you're from? I always tried to convince my best friend that she should put on a costume and save others. I guess I was trying to live vicariously through her that way.

There's something that happened. We call it "The Incident" because, well... "The Day Aliens Poured Out of the Sky" is a bit of a mouthful. A good portion of New York was destroyed and a lot of lives were lost, but it could have been worse. Unimaginably worse. But there were people who stepped in. Stepped up.

Do you think those who have the power should use it for the betterment of society? Share your thoughts.

[It's the middle of the day and somewhere in a city park, greenery behind her, Tefé finally ends up turning on the video feed, scowling. Under other circumstances, finding herself in a whole new universe might have been like some kind of omen, a fresh start. But the military thing sticks in her craw, and frankly, so far Tefé hasn't seen anything to indicate that, in a more planetary sense, things are much different than back home, which leaves her back with the same dilemmas as ever.]

How many of you Registered Heroes actually believe it's a good idea to basically be signing up with the military? You know, the guys that come up with new and creative ways for humans to keep killing each other, along with the rest of the planet as a hapless casualty? Do any of you even think about how completely fucked up it is being tagged like this? Knowing they've got a file on you is creepy as hell, too.

[Even though there's signs of anger on her face, she honestly sounds more pensive than anything, with one other question on her mind.]

And has anyone else found out that some things just... stopped working since they came here? Things you used to be able to do, I mean.

I'm pretty sure I had a dream like this once. Except my superpower was more useful.

In any case, if I'm stuck here for the time being I'd just as soon have a job I enjoy. Dealing cards is entertaining enough, but you might say cybersecurity is my calling.

How difficult is it, to get a good job here without a resume, or references, or any of the usual things that you would need to get a job? Are the natives here - or other imports, for that matter - willing to take a chance and trust we're telling the truth about our experience and education? It's not like a prospective employer can run a traditional background check on us.

Just curious.
