So that's it?

[The ID reads Clark Kent. He's been told before that when he’s angry he stops putting an act and his identity shines through to those observant enough, so he decided against video or audio. But this whole think is making him so mad he wants to scream and he had to let some of it out somehow.]

We’re going to be used as political pawns? We’re going to let them claim our alliance in whichever way they prefer because we apparently didn’t meet a quota of people saved in Bulgaria?

We’re talking lives lost, people who got injured. We’re talking people who had lives and friends and family who will never see them again. And they are using them as numbers. Both sides are.

It makes me sick.

Both attacks were within mere minutes of each other.

Someone wanted us to take the blame.

[At least he doesn't seem to be the only one who thinks that.]

But who? Who has this kind of resources? We're talking about bombs going off at the same time, not only in the same city but in two different cities separated by an ocean.

Either the Hornets or the Russians, but attacking their own ally and staging it as a foreign attack? That's risky.

Who knows what kind of resources the Hornets have, though it has to be enough to nearly pull off a kidnapping of imPorts at a public event. I heard they had power nullifying tech.

They did, I saw it work. It didn't work 100% exactly but it worked well enough to be worrying. But if it's the Hornets's doing... well, they are actually making us look good aren't they? For the goverment, at least. They are on the moon because we saved more people here than we did there.

[ She sighs, exasperated. ]

I should have been there. [ She rubs her face. ] For the US and its allies. I'm guessing most Soviet allies are glaring down their noses at us at the moment.

[ Pausing. ]

So what, a potential third party?

We can't always be there, Karen.

[Which is something she knows well, but he feels it's one of the thing you have to hear sometimes.]

But I'm not sure. It did happen shortly after the Hornets tried to kidnap us and from what I've gathered it does seem like their modus operandi. But if they would pull something to this scale they are a way more chess-master-y type of organization than what they want to project.

Up until now, the Hornets were just a myth. Nobody believed they were real and nobody seemed to know anything about them.

Have you heard about the Nonah bombing incident?

I know some. I read some about it on Jaime's notes but I'd like to hear your take on it if you don't mind?

In early May the city of Nonah unveiled its new monorail and invited imPorts and the general public to come see and ride it. I hadn't seen it until someone pointed it out, but the message on their billboard was:

"ImPorts! Please be our guests this weekend and accompany us on the maiden voyage of our new monorail!"

And the word maiden was crossed out with spray paint.

I wasn't on the ground when it happened, but many said it felt like an earthquake before the monorail's support beams broke. [ And fell on her. Oh, joy. ] I was under the impression it was an earthquake until I got a better look at the damage. Explosives had caused it and there was a message.

"We did it better."

[He takes a moment to process it, to think about the death and pain and loss and grief something like that must have caused. And for what? To get at them? To make them look bad? To gloat?

He forces himself to relax his fingers, he had unconsciously curled his fingers into a fist. But his voice is still mostly even.]

Has someone figured out the relation between the word 'maiden' and 'we did it better' There must have been another monorail before...

If anyone has, they haven't spoken up.

[ And so shakes her head, though it can't be seen. ]

Maybe it wasn't as brand new as they publicized it to be? It was considered highly experimental at the time.

It could have been using a technology that had been used before as well, or maybe they stole the technology from another country who tried to get back to them.

Do you think the Hornets had something to do with it, since you brought it up?

It was the first time I'd heard anything about them. There haven't been any similar attacks in Nonah since then either. If they were attacking civilians, they would have done it.

It's got something to do with us, I'd say. From what I've heard, the Hornets already have some kind of bone to pick with imPorts?

I'm thinking this goes way more deep than what I initially suspected. I'm not prone to conspiracy theories but so many strings were pulled, it's hard not to think in those terms. I just wonder-

Well, what's their angle? What are they hoping to get out of this? It's not like we can pack up and leave- a lot of us would have already if we could. So what do they gain by making everybody hate us? Revoking our privileges?

The million dollar question.

[ She pauses. ]

Though in our line of work, we have come across people who weren't after anything in particular and only wanted to make our lives harder.

Yeah. [So much frustration in just a little word. But if Peej is one of the few he can really talk to and not keep a dual identity, then he might as well be open.]

I really, really hope that's not what we're facing. There's no negotiating with people like that.

I'd rather knock their teeth out for what they did in Nonah and at the maze event.

[ She hums thoughtfully on her end, trying to wrack up some theories. ]

They took their time, though. We've been here since mid-January. Were they prepping in those five months?

[He makes a face, glad this is an audio feed... but he can't deny he'd punch them into a wall if he got the chance as well. Or he'd, at least, really want to.]

Probably. Or gathering resources. Either way the fact that they took their time means they aren't just crazy people jumping at the chance to strike, they have it all planned out. If that's the case they won't stop at this. I get the feeling this is just the beginning.

[Always so reassuring.]

Which means the next time they hit, they're going to hit hard.

So we have to be ready. Problem is, I don't even know where to start.

I don't know yet either, but we will figure it out.

I guess we could do some patrolling, check in public spaces for more bombs and suspicious things... but honestly I had been hoping to keep the S-shield out for a while. At least until more new people get here.

Orlando doesn't host a Porter, which is why the location surprised me at first. I figured if there were any attacks, they would be focused on the cities with imPorts.

But it's not a bad idea to check them out anyway. You never know.

Maybe they wanted to see if we'd make the effort of getting there without the porter to help us out? It's all speculation at this point.

[ A frustrate groan. ]

I'm not going to like whatever comes next.
