[Angela turns on the feed. She looks a little tired as she's spent most of her time trying to learn about this place as well as working. She's speaking with a slight German accent.]

I thought it may be time that I talk here and introduce myself. My name is Angela Ziegler, I was a surgeon and field medic back home among a few other things. I might be employed as a school nurse, but if anyone thinks that they may need healing, don't be afraid to ask me for help. I promise I don't charge. Well, at least not a lot. [That was a joke and she smiles as she says it.]

I've been here for a few days now, I've learned a few things but I would welcome anymore information people can offer.

Well, welcome to Earth-beta, Miss Ziegler. What sort of information are you looking for?

Thank you, I guess. Is that the official name then, Mister?

[There's a brief pause.] Oh I'd like to know more about past events that have happened. I'm aware of the past kidnapping of imPorts and something about ages being swapped? Are events like those a frequent occurrence and do we know exactly what is expected of us while we're here?

"Qubit" is fine. And no, officially it's just Earth. I've been calling it beta to differentiate it from all the other parallel Earths.

[He sits back a bit in his chair.] Let me see. The incidents you're referring to were unrelated, actually. The kidnappings were back in January and February, whereas the other one - that wasn't "ages being swapped," per se, but a large-scale temporal displacement. It was an unfortunate side effect of an otherwise mostly sound experiment. Not one of mine, of course. [Because his are completely sound, you see.]

[She's going to be adopting it. That way she won't get too confused.

She nods as Qubit goes on to explain. It makes more sense than what she had seen being briefly described.]

That's unfortunate, how was it reversed, do you know?

I do know. A few of us got together, and we managed to invert the portal's wave function long enough to reverse its effects. The whole thing collapsed shortly thereafter, though, so it's unlikely we'll have a repeat of that scenario.

[Angela might be forgiven for thinking someone's toddler managed to find a communicator, until she'd see the pointy ears and the sureness of motion that comes from an adult's experience in their body.]

Malms Vovokosi, battlemage and adventurer, at your service. Arriving here has left me with none of the healers I know to call on, so I would like to inquire about the possibility making arrangements to work together, should an opportunity present itself.

[Angela has to be honest with herself and she isn't quite sure what she's looking at. At first, she did think it was a small child, but paying closer attention left her mildly confused, but she's quick not to express it. She is after all, friends with a talking gorilla.]

A pleasure to meet you Malms. A battlemage? Can I ask what that means? [It sounded pretty self-explanatory, but she had learned there were so many people from different worlds that she didn't want to make any assumptions.] But regardless, should the opportunity present itself, I would be happy to help you.

[There's that moment of whirling from the camera being moved, steadying to show a boulder, traditional enemy of pugilists and marauders. Malms comes into view, a staff glowing with power held in one hand.

And then he cuts loose on the boulder - a massive fireball, giant chunk of ice, and arcing lightning leap from his staff to strike the defenseless rock. Three quick spells, and when the dust clears, the yard around where the boulder was has a light dusting of new gravel. He walks back to the camera, looking pleased with himself.]

That's what 'battlemage' means.

[The use of magic had been what she had expected. However, the intensity and the power wasn't. Her eyes had widened as she watched the demonstration and when it was over, she was smiling brightly.]

That was amazing. And you don't rely on technology to accomplish that? [The staff didn't look like it was a piece of tech.] And you had this ability back in your home world as well?

How bad is the situation really and what exactly is expected of us after getting here? I appreciate being given a job, but it's a little strange that we're given so much.

[ asking the big questions here. ] Well, when I arrived it was only a cold war. In other words, there was tension between USA and the Soviets, but neither made a movie and instead they showed off their arsenal and armies and... well, us. USA has always used us to show off to the rest of the world since they are the only country with super-powered people.

That's actually why they give us so much. It works as a bribe of sorts and it keeps us happy and on USA side.

However, in January, the Soviet Union kidnapped several imPorts, and in February they invaded US. They treated us as things, claiming ownership over us, and they tried to brainwash us... And also tortured us. [ Sasaki speaks softly. he lived all of that, after all ] So the war escalated.

[Angela listened and as he explained she felt worse and worse regarding their situation and everything that had already happened. If that was in the last few months, and it was now a war, what was going to happen?]

I'm so sorry to hear that that happened and people had to go through it.

[She was genuine about it, how could you not be? It was hard to hear that people had been kidnapped and then worse, that they had tried to brainwash imPorts and actually torture them.]

Sorry, I don't have much to offer. I'm pretty much in the same boat myself.

You seem like you're taking all of this pretty well, considering.

[ But hey, medics are tough nuts to crack. Just look at Chakwas. ]

I had my initial freak out the day I arrived.

I'm already here, so I might as well do what I can do and make the most of it all. I'll probably change my tune when something crazy happens though.

[Tough medics unite. If she was here.]

[ Alas, the Porter hasn't seen fit to bring Dr. Karin Chakwas in. Probably for the better. ]

Apparently that tends to happen. The crazy, that is.

But you're right. Moving forward and making the best of it is the only option we really have.

Well looks like I'll have to get back into the swing of jumping into action at short notice.

It's not ideal, but it seems to be the easiest option for everyone, at least.

What kind of information are you looking for? I mean, this place is pretty crazy, most of the time, but it's not... awful.

I take it there's been a lot of opportunities to have field medics? Well, I've been told about the kidnapping and the occupation and that it's now an active war? But what you've just said has been helpful, just knowing that it isn't always so bad is a relief of sorts.

I think it can get pretty good, but... considering I'm from the middle of a warzone, most things look good next to it, you know?

Take any moment you can to enjoy the peace and quiet while it lasts because you don't know how long it will be until you can do it again, I understand. Before I was brought here, I was in the Middle East, not fighting, but still in the thick of it.
