[ Kanan's putting his ugly mug on video today, wow! Amazing! He's also in, like... an office somewhere, it appears? There's probably a white board and a filing cabinet behind him, a potted plant, that kinda thing. ]

Hey, everyone. If you don't already know, I'm Kanan Jarrus.

[ He gives a little wave. What follows appears to be rehearsed - like he's memorized this speech, practiced it beforehand. ]

Mayor Baelish has graciously agreed to let me take over running the Endeavor Center, here in Maurtia Falls. If you don't know what that is, it's a place established several months ago to serve the youth community here. Kids can come here to participate in all kinds of activities, outreach programs, after school classes, you name it.

Maurtia Falls is a tough town, and a lot of the kids here need help, to keep them off the streets. To give them opportunities to be their best selves. I believe we can make that happen, but I definitely can't do it alone. We need volunteers - lots of them. If you've got an interest or a skill, you can teach it to someone else. If you're involved in a career and want to get someone else interested in it, you can do that. If you can think of something, I'll find a way for you to help out.

Furthermore, I also run NeoJedha, a shelter and temple for the youth of Maurtia Falls. The Endeavor Center helps kids who might otherwise wind up on the streets, or in bad situations. NeoJedha offers a safe place for the kids who are already in those bad situations, and need to get out. Who need a place to stay, a hot meal, a shower. Maybe even some self-defense lessons. I could use some help there, as well, if that's more your speed.

Finally - I've got a job offer. I need an assistant, full-time. Someone to, well - be my eyes. [ He waves a hand vaguely at his face. HI YEAH, BLIND GUY HERE. ] Someone to help me navigate the bureaucracy, help fill out paperwork, the basic day-to-day stuff that needs done to keep everything running smoothly. Anyone interested in any of this can drop by and check us out whenever you want. We need all the help we can get.

Oh, and if anyone wants meditation lessons, I'll still be doing those, too. For a small fee - all proceeds go right back into the Endeavor Center.

[ Honestly, the only question is: when does he plan to sleep? ]

I spent my entire life in a post-apocalyptic city. So ... uh, I could definitely try, but I might make things worse.

Maybe I can just pay extra for meditation lessons?

Hm. Well, you can always just... mentor. You know what it is to be on the streets. Some of these kids just need someone who understands that.

[ Kanan smiles a little. ]

We also do just take donations, too.

[ That's an idea. David brightens. ]

Mentoring, donations, and meditation. I think that sounds like a fun day.

I'm glad someone does.

[ He chuckles, because, wow. Some of the people here. ]

Mm, no, I just think more people here could stand to look beyond themselves and their own problems.

[ David rubs at the back of his neck. ]

For some people, that's all they've got the energy for.

[kanyounot]

Oh, trust me, I know. I was one of those people, for a long time. And I know I can't talk anybody into it - everyone has to come around to it themselves, on their own schedule.

But I understand the other side of it, now. Knowing there are people who need help, and there are people who could help them. But many likely won't.

[ David's quiet for a moment. Yeah, he understands both of sides of that particular coin. ]

You've been there too, huh? Had a crazy life before being a Jedi?

[kanyounot]

I had a crazy life after all the Jedi got killed, when I was a teenager. I lost everyone I'd ever known, and I was on the streets, a fugitive.

For a while, all I could do was try to stay alive.

[ Utter sympathy from David's side. And hard-edged understanding. ]

... Why'd they kill all the Jedi? I thought you said you were all monks.

[kanyounot]

[ Kanan shrugs. ]

The Emperor - he was just the Chancellor then - he concocted a story about the Jedi being traitors to the Republic who tried to assassinate him, as part of his coup to take over the government. He had nearly all the Jedi killed.

[ Ah. More of that pained understanding. ]

Consolidating power, huh. I guess if you've got special monk powers, he'd need to have you under control. Tyranny 101.

[kanyounot]

Basically, yeah. The Jedi would never have stood aside and just allowed him to take power like that, so he tried to murder them all.

So, yeah. I was fourteen, and on my own, with no resources or support.

[metaphorbia]

[ David nods slowly. ]

So you want teenagers here to have a better shot at it. With the resources you didn't have.

[kanyounot]

Yeah, if I can. I'm in a position to help kids like that, so I believe I should try.

[metaphorbia]

That's a hell of a nice thing to do.

[kanyounot]

[ Kanan is always a little taken aback when people say things like that about him. Perhaps he never truly believes he's a good person, or a good Jedi. He tries, but it's more about making up for his own perceived inadequacies than anything else.

Still, he cracks a faint, almost sheepish, smile. ]

I guess I think of it more as a duty, but thanks.

It's a nice duty then? I dunno, man. I've met some pretty shitty people in my life.

[ And he doesn't take something like that for granted. ]

I can't disagree with that. I'm just proud to be one of the people trying to off-set that.
