Hypothetically speaking, how old does someone have to be to apply for college, or to take classes at a university? Is there a minimum age, or does it depend on whether or not you understand the material?

My name's Angus. I'm actually 12, I didn't want to lead with that because it usually leads to people not taking me very seriously.

It's nice to meet you Angus. Any particular reason you're asking about college courses, or simply academic pursuit?

I can't really work in my usual field here, so I've been looking for something to keep me busy that isn't just the library. I mean, I really love it there, don't get me wrong, but a good good friend of mine suggested going back to school once, and I've been thinking about it ever since. The last time I attended public school didn't go so great, so I thought university or college might be a little more challenging?

Your usual field? You must be considerably specialized considering your age.

[It's not meant to demean at all--rather to praise.]

I'm a detective back home, but the police departments here won't work with me because there are too many laws about endangering minors. I tried to give them my resume and everything, but I haven't had any luck.

I see.

I understand both where you're coming from but also where they're coming from. More education would certainly be a worthy addition to your repertoire and resume.

[hellosirs]

It's just frustrating. I understand that they don't want to get in trouble, but nobody had a problem with me doing the job back home, and I was really, really good at it.

[ They also don't have things like 'child endangerment laws' back home, which is a big thing here! ]
