Hypothetically speaking, how old does someone have to be to apply for college, or to take classes at a university? Is there a minimum age, or does it depend on whether or not you understand the material?

Is there some kind of admissions test?

There usually is. Or they might want to see your transcripts. Depends how picky the school is, plus the whole imPort thing makes it a little less by the book.

It would have to be; I'm not sure if any imPorts have their transcripts on hand when they come here. Or how we'd prove our educational history to begin with...

It definitely wouldn't be easy. So, probably a test. How old are you, anyway?

... Young enough that I wouldn't normally be considered for university and/or college?

Ohhh. Is this a Doogie Howser situation? Wait, you might not even be from a world where that's a thing, never mind. Do you think you're ready for that kind of coursework?

I think so? I haven't been to school in a while, but I've been reading some high school and college level textbooks at the library, and I haven't had any trouble so far.

There's a little more to doing well in college than being able to handle the reading, but that's a great start. I don't see why you shouldn't look into it. At least then you'll know for sure.

Oh, I have one more question... will I have to get a permission slip signed or something, do you think?

This is something you'd definitely learn in college, but I can tip you off ahead of time: there's always going to be much, much more paperwork than a permission slip.

Do you know what you want to study?

Not yet, no? I've been thinking about this for a while, but it's hard to narrow things down to just one subject.

[storyseeker]

That's actually a really good way to approach things. You might not be the usual freshman, but there's a reason they want first-years to take a bunch of gen ed classes to start. Cast a wide net, and you never know what you might end up interested in, or even really good at.

I like the sound of that! Especially since the curriculum here is so different from what would be offered back home.
