[ Video ]
[ Video starts and there is one (1) Kaneki and one (1) Riptide looking back at you. Kaneki gently nods his head as a polite greeting and riptide raises a hand in a light wave.]
Hello everyone, we are making an official announcement that we are currently working to visit Death Island and build a memorial on site for the imPorts who have permanently died there. For those who aren’t familiar with the story, in 2008 a group of teenage imPorts went to the island in order to stop a man who built a Death Ray. I understand the naming is… [ IT’S SOMETHING. ] but the Ray killed seven imPorts permanently. It has been ten years since then, and I think it’s important to remember those who were lost.
--Right, yeah, [riptide leans a little closer to the camera. it’s time to pay attention to him now!!] it’s got a weird name and the history sucks. So, anyway, we already have quite a bit of backing from ambassador Baal, Baelish and senator Hundred. Er-- [he looks down. at his hand, where he’s written this information like a normal person.] --The Airforce, some other native institutions. They sure love their advertising. I’m sure you see where this is going.
The only people left to ask are… [he points dramatically at the camera.] you. Is you? Grammar. You. Give us money for this. Also, yourselves. Please.
[ oh god, no - Kaneki moves in, shoving Riptide away as he tries to salvage this ] He-- isn’t wrong. We need funding to build the memorial, but we also need signatures to show imPorts support this idea. We are also gathering them from natives, who have been very receptive to this idea. [slightly off camera, riptide can be heard mumbling that’s what i said!. Kaneki will ignore him because what else can you do? ]
We want to ask you for your support on this, any kind you can give us. [ he bows gently to the camera ] Thank you so much.
Yeah, thanks-- and if you’re gonna bitch about how this ain’t our problem, I don’t wanna hear it! Put that attitude back in the toilet you fished it out of, idiot! [ and before the feed is cut off you can still hear Kaneki going “Riptide, No-” ]

private, video -> action!
It's not a saying, but I get the point. I'll be here.
[ And she will be, sitting near the window in her kitchen in case he decides to come over in his more...easily noticeable form. She's fidgety, a bit mad he wouldn't just tell her outright. ]
Re: private, video -> action!
[cassandra is right to assume that's Some Bullshit riptide would pull. he's surprisingly quiet as he moves in his natural form, but still completely massive. evidently, he manages to guess which window is hers - cass sitting in full view of it sure helps - so he peers in from a couple hundred yards away and gives her a happy wave. then disappears, because his human becoming power is whack.
when he's up and in the house, he joins her in the kitchen. sitting his lanky ass down on one of the spare chairs.]
Right! So, this'll be fun. We are going to set up a memorial, but you gotta know that we're also not just gonna sit there and accept "buhhh I dunno" as an answer to where that crazy death ray is.
action
[ She mumbles it, knowing Riptide is leaving to join her, but still. She stands up, ready to open the window and yell at him, when she sees him in the distance, and then when he just vanishes- but she stops herself before she does so, fortunately. She rolls her eyes once he walks in, and points him toward the chair. When he starts talking, she sits too, looking pensive. ]
I figured. Plus Kaneki's been blabbing to me about what he wants to do, so- you don't have to hold anything back, apparently.
[ She raises an eyebrow. If her guess on what they were doing was correct... ] So why did you get interested? You've never seemed like you were into the investigatory side of things.
Re: action
[he shrugs.]
Outside of being the stunningly handsome and youthful boat I am, I'm also an Autobot. There's far more to us than [
meets the eye] just fighting Decepticons. We do try to help, and all I've really been doing is wallowing in self-pity and getting drunk all the time since I got here. Maybe using this as a cover-up for an investigation isn't the more moral way to start, but Primus knows we deserve those answers. From the moment we show up everything is kept from us under some bullshit guise of protection or just because.action
That's...great, actually, but again, what brought this on? Did you have a life epiphany in that horror house or something? It's not that you're not acting like yourself, it's that-
[ How does she put this? ] I feel like I missed something. I don't know.
Re: action
[despite what he said, he hadn't actually intended to go up there just to die. he'd just expected it, is all.]
I would've been looking for one if I hadn't had it handed to me. I guess I just don't talk about this a lot? I don't actually like doing nothing. Sometimes it feels like I'm physically incapable of it.
action
[ It's the kind of tenacity that fits a reality star, though he's referring to doing a much different thing than that. ]
So what exactly is the plan, beyond "go to the island and pretend we're mourning?" Do we have any idea of what's even there?
Re: action
[he's glad he doesn't need to explain further. part of him doesn't understand why she was surprised, but he's sure that's probably the child soldier thing he has going on that makes it hard to understand certain attitudes that people from peaceful times have.
riptide leans back in the chair, shrugs.] Not just yet. It being another country makes recon a little harder, but something like that can't have just disappeared, can it? Maybe it's just sitting there covered in rust, but that would be far too easy. Worst case scenario, it's still active. Which... I'm expecting is actually going to be the one we're gonna have to deal with.
[because everything is shit, always!!]
Me and Kaneki alone couldn't cover as much land, we don't have the necessary powers or skillset to do it either. Fortunately... [he leans forward, tents his fingers. takes a few tries to actually get fingertip to fingertip.] other imPorts with a lack of scruples do!
[he's so bad at this]
action
Let's say it is somehow active- I imagine then someone would have to be maintaining it, which is its own question. We need to find some way to protect ourselves. The entire reason we can do wild shit like go to Mars in the first place is that we don't have to worry about dying. [ A pause. Well, she shouldn't say that. In some ways, dying still looms over her. ] We don't have to worry about dying permanently.
And even if we can't protect ourselves outright, we need to find a safe way in. [ She taps her fingers on the table. ] I'll probably have to do some divining, then...
Re: action
[he sighs, shakes his head. he doesn't like sitting down, so he gets up and walks around the kitchen for a few moments, before grabbing a mug off the side and getting himself some water.]
Or being nuked, [he says, tone extremely bitter.] would that work? Where would you need to do it?
action
[ She says that with a tone of bitterness. She understands, now, that it's possible for her to miss so much if she doesn't broaden her options, look in multiple directions. She feels like a fool for not doing that more often. ]
The man who made it- he's someone specific. Someone I could actually look for, as long as I had some info on him.
Re: action
[she could come with, sure, but riptide hates the idea of cass being near any danger at all.]
I can't imagine we'll find nothing, at any rate.
action
[ That's right, Riptide, she sees your reluctance. Kind of an odd detail to bring up, she thinks. ]
Unless you're worried about something else on the island? The Death Ray, I assume?
Re: action
[paranoid, sure, but also... he did literally fight in a 4 million year long war? you don't come out of that expecting good things.]
I'm not thinking about it on the same level as what most people expected for Mars, but I'm certainly not expecting anything good. Especially if everything goes the worst way it can and we get caught.
action
[ Suddenly she looks a bit more focused. She nearly smiles. ]
I could also divine for traps. Just saying.
Re: action
action
[ No guarantee, though. She leans back in her chair and taps her chin. ]
I would have to be looking for specific kinds of traps. But if we can cover any of the obvious possibilities- alarm systems, guards, any sort of comically cartoony laser traps- I can make sure it doesn't have those. [ She frowns. ] So we probably won't be sure, but we can get close.
Re: action
[he'd much rather have a general idea than none at all.]
Have you done anything like this before? I'm not doubting your ability, just interested.
action
[ She looks back at him. She's not used to Riptide being this serious. ] What about you? Obviously you can get there, but are you worried about anything once we're on the island? Besides how I handle things.
Re: action
[he hums.]
Other than the general anxiety of all this? No, not really. This isn't my first rodeo. Or second. Or third, even.
action
[ She can't help but sound a bit sarcastic, but that's how she copes with having a friend who's apparently millions of years old. ]
This is a pretty weird thing to have planned out while you were in the Halloween Hell House, by the way.
Re: action
[it's hard to tell if he's being serious.]
What, like you've never done something dumb while sitting on something until it's the right time?
action
[ That said, she's clearly teasing him a bit. ]
Re: action
And yet!
action
Hey! What's that supposed to mean?
[ Extremely rude!! She seems more amused than anything though, thank god. ]
