Heya!

[Akira waves to the camera, because of course he does.]

You know, the end of the year is heavy with holidays, especially in America. So much shopping and everything! But here in America, Christmas is kind of a family holiday, where you guys all get together and exchange gifts and make lots of food, but I'm more used to it being a romantic holiday... And we like to get fried chicken! Last year, I kind of did that, but I'm kind of wondering...

What kind of winter holidays do you guys have where you're from, and how do you usually celebrate them?

We don’t have this ‘Christmas’ thing... But, we have winter celebrations for the solstice! It’s the same kind of thing, with family gatherings and parties.

Actually, there’s an ice-type Pokémon that’s similar to that Santa Claus legend too. It’s called Delibird, they live deep in snowy caves but tradition is they come out to play around the solstice and give gifts to everyone around them. That’s where humans got the idea to give gifts around that time.

Yeah! Here, I'll show you...

[Blue reaches behind him and picks up his Pokédex, flicking through it until he turns it towards the screen- some photos of some red and white, penguin-like Pokémon gathered together with various objects stashed away in their huge, fluffy tails.]

See how they gather in the caves and exchange objects with each other? Their tails are shaped like big pouches, and they carry stuff around to give and trade away.

When you think about it, the wintertime is the hardest time for creatures to survive in the wild.... So, it makes sense they might come together to give and help, right?

There were a lot of holidays where I'm from. Christmas and New Year's were the biggest. Some people celebrated Chinese New Year, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, other days. My family didn't do anything religious. We exchanged gifts for Christmas. Homemade gifts usually, especially after my dad quit his job. We'd hunt a big animal for a real Christmas feast.

[She pauses for a moment Her past also felt like two different worlds, the one before her father was the shrike and after.]

Later when I was learning the harpsichord, I learned a few Christmas and winter songs. And I learned to cook some traditional American Christmas food, traditional Lithuanian Kalėdos food and a few dishes from other cultures too. I still like holiday foods and music.

I was never in Japan on my world. I never even left the states back home.  I haven't traveled that much here either, to be honest.  I think about it sometimes.  I'd like to see Japan.

They are!  I gave out homemade gifts last year.   Baked goods, CDs of me playing music, things like that.  I might do something similar this year.

A holiday ham is one tradition. I prefer the traditional meals from animals I can hunt though.  Like venison or goose.   It's traditional to have them roasted with vegetables and potatoes.   Or stuffed, but I usually think of that as a Thanksgiving thing.  There are Christmas drinks like eggnog and wassail.   And the meal ends with dessert like Christmas cookies or a yule log.   There's also the feast of seven fishes for Christmas eve.

Where I'm from in Russia, Christmas isn't actually celebrated in December like the rest of the world, it's on January 7th. Which is good for me since my birthday is on December 25th instead! Ah, not that I really celebrate it much anyway ...

Everything is rather commercialized here, isn't it?
