You know, I've been here a couple of years now. There are plenty of imPorts who've been here even longer, but I feel like that's a pretty good stretch of time. And I work in the news, so I've seen a lot. But every time I think I've seen it all, something ridiculous happens.

Did you know that there's a black market for dubiously legal powers-simulating technology in Heropa? And did you know that there are invisibility rays that only work on a person's body, and not their clothes?

So I was at the open-air mall downtown today and this happened.

I saw him go streaking by (pardon the pun) and get arrested by a cop I've interviewed a couple of times, and had to find out what the story was. Consider this a PSA on the presence of unreliable criminal tech, I guess.

Anyone want to take bets on whether he cheaped out and the invisibility ray broke, or if someone wanted to see if he'd really try to pick pockets naked?

I dunno I think the folks who developed that tech knew EXACTLY what they were doing.

You might be right. I guess they're not trying to cultivate a reputation for reliability if that's true.

In my experience, people in the business of black market tech always operate on a 'buyer-beware' basis.

No, I've never been in the business of sellin'.
But if something like that fell into my possession I would be lying if I said I wouldn't use it in the Crucible just to mess with people.

What's the Crucible?

It's like a combination between live-fire combat training and a competition for bragging rights.

Yeah, that's the long and short of it. Mind you, the deaths aren't permanent.
