There is word the season is for family. It has brought me many thoughts of home.

How do you choose your wives?

Do you choose them for their strength? Or for their beauty? Do you choose them for their skills at weaving or creating a feast? Or do they have a talent with voice or hand, creating iconic images?

There appears to be a preference to choose only one wife in this world. This must be a very difficult choice to make. No one woman can satisfy all the needs.

G-generally speaking, we uh... 'choose wives' because we fall in love and we can't picture our lives without the other person. The... all of that, that's just a bonus?

I ask myself that question often. I've yet to find an answer.

Perhaps it depends what they are looking for in a mate. Great fighters are highly regarded among the Kaleesh. I had many vying for my attentions.

Considering that we are a militaristic race, I imagine that's a factor.

I'm still not sure why my mate puts up with me, though.

Most of us do, so far. My best friend is mated to two females. I don't think it's for me, personally, though.

There is also the issue of only having twenty females to start with. Every single other female is either a sister-in-law, daughter, granddaughter, or niece.

Your kind is scarce? The people of my planet have been diminished from war and famine, however we strive onward and survive as well we can.

I had many wives. Many children. It may be a cruelty to discover their fate. I have not seen them for so very long.

Yes, we are a created race. They hid the existence of females from us for many decades in order to better control us, but no more.

I'm being quite literal when I say created. Dragon eggs were stolen and warped to hatch something else entirely - us. My kind has only existed for about eighty-four years, and half of that has been war, banditry, and mercenary work. It's only been in the last forty years we've been able to work towards a future.

It's not a matter of what a woman can do. I mean, yeah, it's part of who they are and probably an influence on their personality, but that's not what's important.
