[That was more a rhetorical question, than anything else, even if this kind of communication is still pretty new to Riku. Considering that he's seen job complaints and offers already, he supposes it should be fine to just question the imPort population as a whole.]

Does anyone here know anything about bat care? Or what's considered to be an "exotic animal" in this particular world?

[What's 'exotic' here isn't necessarily what Riku would consider actually exotic. Then again, Riku knows his definition of that is broader than most, probably. Comes with that world-hopping territory.]

First: Yes.

Second: Probably; there's a plethora of different sorts of folks and species present here. In fact, one was just very recently COMPLAINING about the penchant for our sort for taking in pets, exotic or otherwise, just a day or so ago!

Third: I'd advise a quick browse through the nearest library.
(Do you know what a library is? I despise asking for how condescending it sounds, but since all KINDS of worlds and lifestyles are represented here, I can't rule it out)

To be frank, we all come from different worlds and climates. If anything, I think most of us qualify as an exotic something or other.

Ah, bats! The creatures that are like rats, except with wings? I think those are fairly common in this world, even if they're not often seen — not exotic by any measure!

Well, I'm trying to qualify myself now, somewhat. I've taken care of animals before, but I'm not sure if that those qualify me for whatever that sanctuary has in store.

If my experience is at all common, than you may find the task suitable, if not BENEATH, your capabilities. But I don't know if that's true and they've just accidentally thrown you to the lions, so to speak.
I'm told you can freely decline the job and choose another at your will, at least.

I think, I'll at least check out the sanctuary first and see what the job is about. Maybe I could do more than they want me to, but at least until I've figured out what to do with myself here, it seems reasonable enough.

That's quite reasonable for you, considering you've been abruptly whisked away from whatever or wherever it was you were for no real reason.
As for my own assignment, it's just some dull job overseeing a shop full of useless trickeries. Harmless at the end of the day, but not exactly IDEAL.
I'd switch, but I'm hardly qualified for much else that I'd WANT to do here from what I've seen.

Oh, are they? We had a flock of them living on the Island back home, but I didn't think that would make them common to other worlds. Even if they are not 'exotic'… my future work place apparently primarily cares for them.

There's a shop in the city of De Chima called "Houdini's Magic Supplies." Mostly useless trinkets, but it's where I'm assigned all the same. Should you need aid requiring ACTUAL magic, though, I'm around.
Just don't drag any apocalypses at my doorstep just because I decided to be generous.

My proficiency is in light and heat. Fire, lightning. It's a result of my heritage, though I've been working to expand beyond that.
