[Video turns on to show Riku sitting on the curve of what might be a palm tree at the beach of Heropa.]

So, I don't know if this is usual for this place, but for some reasons I got my old wooden practice sword sent by the government this morning. It's… an interesting reminder, to say the least.

[He grimaces slightly because well… the last time he saw that sword was when he left it behind for Sora to use in then-Hollow Bastion.]

But anyway, that's not the only thing that showed up from home!

[He angles the camera up, to show the star-shaped fruits that are hanging from the tree that he is sitting on.]

These are called paopu, they are from my home world. Back there, we have a legend surrounding them… it says that if two people share one of these, they'll remain connected to one another forever… no matter what happens.

[He turns the camera back, smiling softly.]

So… if you have someone special in your life, you should pick up one of these to share.

[Then his smile turns a little more mischievous.]

Don't worry, Sora… Kairi. I'm definitely bringing one home for you guys.

[He's about to shut off the recording, but then gets distracted when someone behind him starts shouting promotions of Joe's Diner and their Destiny Pizza down the streets – his face falling into a grimace of horror and annoyance.]

…They put paopus on pizza!? Seriously? That's just–

[Riku doesn't even have words for just how much he considers this near-blasphemous.

You Don't Just Put A Paopu On Pizza.

…Or into any other meal, for that matter. Excuse him, he probably needs to go and give this Joe a piece of his mind.

Riku out(?)]

[ The video feed opens up to see a young boy with spiky brown hair, who very much might resemble certain other imPort, albeit this one's a bit younger. It takes a moment for him to realize his communicator's recording, but soon enough he smiles brightly. ]

Hey guys! I'm Sora. Not... the bigger Sora, if you know him. I'm another version of him. Nice to meet everyone! So, uh... what are we supposed to do here?

[ Yes, he did indeed receive the brochure. Did he read the entire thing? He made an effort before getting bored. This is too complicated for him. It's difficult without Mickey around to give him advice. At least, it sounds like he read part of the file folder they gave him. ]

I know I've got some new powers, a new school, and a job now. I've never worked a job before. Then I've got a new home back in Nonah. Makes me feel all... [ A pause, while he tries to think of the word. Wait for it. ] Metropolitan? Yeah, that's it. I don't understand it all, but it sounds like fun!

[ Folding his arms behind his head, he leans back and sort of spins side-to-side in an office chair. Wherever he is, it doesn't look like he's in his assigned housing right now. It looks like some computer lab in Heropa's public school. Data-Sora here is the school's new tech guy. Hi. Work's not so busy right now and he's bored. ]

Oh yeah! [ He sits up suddenly, pressing his face close to the screen. ] By the way, other me? Are you listening to this? I know you're out there somewhere.

[ For once, Josh looks... Well, he's not wearing the hoodie. So that's a plus. He's wearing a t-shirt of a metal band he's never heard of with a name he can't read and an ugly beanie, but it looked cool so here he is. Looking like he has words to say but he's not sure exactly how to say them. ]

So... They say things like, "with great power comes great responsibility." Like, you have these incredible abilities, and now you're obligated to use them for the greater good. Sure, you could do a lot of good in the world, but what about the personal cost?

Where's the line between duty and self-preservation?

[ He's not sure anymore. He keeps flip flopping. Thinking of all he should've gone, and could've done, but remembering what it cost him to do what he did. ]

I dunno. Maybe it's a bad case of the Mondays. What's your take on it?

[ The feed opens up to the night sky of Jeopardy Nevada, coming from what looks like to be a roof of one of the housing condos. What is this person doing up there? Looking at the stars. When the camera focuses, its on Rey - illuminated by the neon lights of the casinos around the area.

She pops what looks like a potato chip in her mouth and stares out into the distance. ]

I want to know about legends. You're familiar with Jedi given the people here where I come from -- but to me, for the longest time, they were just that.

[ stories of hope to a girl from nowhere, and then suddenly more real than that. ]

What are some legends from where you're from, and have you discovered them to be more?

[ It's a minor curiosity, but being stuck in a desert (even one that is better than Jakku, despite how unnerving she might find the place, or how it sets her senses on edge) is ... different than she expected, Rey doesn't know what to do with herself and she can't quite manage to sleep at the moment. ]

Yo! Did you know the world record for most rubber ducks in a section of water is around thirty thousand? They were all gathered up after, not to worry, but there's also a story of a ship that had a shipping container full of 'em that broke and poured them all into the ocean. It helped people track currents all around the world! Apparently they're better at it than buoys, though it was more of a happy coincidence 'cause there's no way you could do somethin' like that ethically. Turns out tracking 350 quintillion gallons of water is pretty hard!

[he claps his hands together then shifts the camera. there is a big pool behind him.]

Anyway! I shan't waste your time with a bunch of oceanography crap-- I have something much better to show those of you laid low by the unlucky port outs of this year. [he turns to look at something off camera.] Crobat! If you will, please!

[those who recognise the noises crobat makes will... well, recognise crobat off-screen. there's some rustling of a tarp, then... rubber ducks. hundreds of them. thousands of them. they stream from somewhere elevated offscreen and into the pool, filling it up relatively quickly. archie keeps the camera focused on it all-- the stream of rubber ducks keeps going for a good minute or so. by the time it finishes, they've completely covered the surface of the pool and some of the area around it.]

That's not even all of them! [archie laughs, off camera.] Wait, there's more!

[a few more rubber ducks roll out, but what's important is archie's wailmer suddenly explodes up from underneath the ducks, settling on top of them with a happy waiiiiiii! bobbing amongst the duckies, she ducks down and blows a huge jet of water up into the air, taking a chunk of the ducks up with it. archie can be heard laughing in the duck rain, then cursing when one of them bounces off his head.]

There she blows! Any'a you people want an armful of ducks? I have over thirteen thousand. Don't ask why!

[Walter is doing the walk-and-talk method of recording himself. Based on the cityscape around him, it looks like he's walking through Heropa.]

I have come to learn that there was once an institute in this world designed specifically by and for imPorts. Those who were heading the project have since returned to their own worlds, but what of us? I think it could be of great use. That's why I'm working to reestablish this institution, but I will need some assistance to make that happen.

The same original opportunities would apply as before: classes for people of all ages and education levels, teaching positions for those hoping to change careers, and dorm housing for both Registered and Unregistered imports. There will also be practice spaces geared for honing one's own powers, and classes for learning self-defense.

I know that there are already a variety of combat instructors among us, but I think it would be beneficial to have as many as possible under one roof. I will be offering competitive pay and better resources to anyone who chooses to join the faculty. I have a comprehensive background in education, and am currently in the midst of getting additional government funding. I will do everything I can to get you what you need... Within reason and safety standards.

Not all of the import-taught classes would have to be about self defense, of course. Even if you have no experience with teaching in a formal setting, I would welcome your involvement nonetheless. There are so many among us with unique skills and experiences. If you would be interested in sharing your expertise, I can work with you to find the teaching methods that suit you best.

[He takes a turn, and now he's near a property that looks a little more forested than the rest of the city. He turns the camera around to face the school itself. It looks overgrown, even a bit dilapidated. There’s a large hole in the roof, a few broken windows, and an overgrowth of plants on the property.]

But before we get that far, the building itself is in need of a little... elbow grease. It will require a large amount work, but I truly think it will be worth it.

[His hand reaches into view, wiping some overgrown brush off of a placard that declares “Heropa Organization of Porter Education”.]

So. Would anyone be interested in rekindling H.O.P.E.?

[ The video opens on a scene of Catra sitting in an elegant-looking armchair, legs crossed, arms on the armrests, posture and expression confident. In the background, you may hear the sounds of people talking and tableware clanking. ]

Greetings, Earthlings! It is I, the Goddess Catra of Eternia, and I have come to Earth to grace you with my presence.

[ A cat walks through the screen in front of Catra, its tail held high. ]

If you wish to meet me, I can be found at Royal Purrincess Cat Café.

[ From off the camera, a voice that’s considerably louder than the other ones filters in. ]

What are you doing there? You’re here to work, not goof off!

[ Catra hisses quietly and turns toward her left, where the voice is ostensibly coming from, and shakes her fist at whoever it belongs to. ]

I’m giving you publicity! That is work! Just let me finish-- [ She turns back toward the camera. ] Wait, is this thing still on?

[ She gets up, walks a few steps toward the camera, and then reaches forward until her hand and arm obscure most of the picture. Then the screen goes black and the video ends. ]

Soooooo.... hi. I'm new here, annnnd... I still have a lot of questions about what exactly is going on! Ha! Ha ha... I don't know how any of these things in this building work and I can't ask anyone outside for help because every time I try they just keep flashing me with bright lights on their little magic boxes and it's all really starting to kind of freak me out.

[ Great idea opening with run on sentences instead of an introduction, right? The nervous blonde on the other side of the video swipes at her forehead with the back of her free arm, revealing soot smudges on her fingers and palm, the other held up to record her video at a suspiciously low angle looking up. There's a kitchen towel over her shoulder and in the background, if you squint REALLY hard you can see a portion of wall peeking out that looks slightly charred and dripping wet. The top of a plastic pitcher, probably empty of its contents sits a little to the other side. The story tells itself almost.

She takes a deep breath, looking towards the ceiling while she takes a second to compose herself, because it's OBVIOUS she's ten seconds away from freaking out. ]

Also-

[ There is some lip biting and rubbing at the back of her neck No Rapunzel that's the sooty hand!!! going on here for a second, as Rapunzel is a little embarrassed to be admitting this on the open network- but it's necessary so DOING IT ANYWAY.]

I... ah... I might have had a little mishap. I don't really know how it happened. I was reading and suddenly the book caught fire. Is that normal around here?

[ Wow that sounds dumb. She is getting flustered which is evidenced by the nervous darting of her eyes and her pulling the towel off her shoulder to fidgit with before remembering that her other hand is the one holding the "magic box"- the moment the feed dips there's more evidence of the extent of the damage, briefly, before it returns to its previous position. She looks considerably more flustered now, laughing nervously at her own blunder. ] Sorry! Soanywaythethingis- I don't know if there's anyone here who has experience with, um... suddenly catching fire?? But I don't suppose there's someone here willing and able to teach me how to control it? PLEASE?? I-

[ Something off screen just caught her eyes, which widen in alarm. She lets out a startled shriek ("OH! No! Nononononononono!!!") and drops her phone, showing the dish towel on the floor now also ON FIRE. Thankfully, or unfortunately depending on your perspective, the feed cuts out abruptly. ]

[The video feed presents an older british gentleman at his desk, surrounded by stacks of history books. He looks up into the camera and smiles warmly.]

Good evening, my name is Walter Strickler. I'm a new arrival here, and I thought it best that I introduce myself. More than that, actually, I was hoping to ask a question.

I am in the midst of familiarizing myself with the history of this world, and how it differs from my own... Most of the discrepancies have been fairly minute, others less so, but it lead me to wondering about other worlds. Your worlds, and the histories theirin; if you care to share them. I suppose I'm just curious, is it common for most of us... "imports" to be from worlds that are similar, or ones that are vastly different? Is there anything here that has struck you as odd?

[There's a small pause, an aside glance, as he arranges the wording of his next question carefully.]

And, are 'powers' common where you're from? Whether it be mutations, magic, or anything of the sort. Are these things familiar to you?

Please do forgive me if I take a moment to understand anything you have to share. I must admit, I am still attempting to process all of this... But I would not want to have anyone feeling put-out for my misgivings. Thank you. I look forward to getting to know you all better.

Hey everyone, happy New Year. The Porter is starting its cycle again, so here's a welcome to all the new imPorts getting brought in. I'm Commander Jacob Taylor of Aegis Force, a team that works with the government to protect people in the Porter cities. You can ask us questions, report any information you have on trouble happening, or ask for help if you need it. Our group is always ready to respond when things go wrong.

I've been here a long time, and I've learned that being imPorts means our community has a lot of power. A lot of advantages that most other people don't have. Some people - and not just imPorts - think that power means you can step on others with no consequences. Treat people like they're playthings, or less. Aegis exists to show people like that how wrong they are. There are rules, and they still apply no matter how strong someone might be.

So here are a few examples I'd like to give of what NOT to do while you're here:

cut for length )

These are not polite suggestions. These are basic guidelines that everyone should be able to follow. If you break them, Aegis Force or somebody else who gives a damn will find out and make it their problem. On the other hand, if you want to help hold the line, we'll be happy to work with you. Recruitment's closed for the moment, but Aegis can always use more allies and contacts.

That's about it for now. If anybody's got suggestions for what you'd like to see added to the list, go ahead and let me know. This probably won't be the last time I'll have to go over these.

So, I hear this is the place to come for questions and such, right?

[That was more a rhetorical question, than anything else, even if this kind of communication is still pretty new to Riku. Considering that he's seen job complaints and offers already, he supposes it should be fine to just question the imPort population as a whole.]

Does anyone here know anything about bat care? Or what's considered to be an "exotic animal" in this particular world?

[What's 'exotic' here isn't necessarily what Riku would consider actually exotic. Then again, Riku knows his definition of that is broader than most, probably. Comes with that world-hopping territory.]

I'm curious.

[ Raina is seated in her living room, legs tucked up beneath her on the couch. It's a relaxed and casual position, best suited for a relaxed and casual conversation. ]

So many people come and go here. There are very few of us who have been static for years. Even fewer who have been here since the beginning. But the longer you're here, the more losses you tend to face. And the more time that passes, the more everyone else forgets about some of those people who were once here. So I'd like to hear stories of friends who have gone, lovers who have vanished, and people you'll never forget. The only way we can keep memories alive is to share them. I mean, who knows when you or I could become nothing more than a memory...and the least we can do is honor those memories by talking about them.

[ She sits up slowly, draping her arm over her knees. ]

But more than all of that, and perhaps a more relevant question to the newer arrivals -- if you had the opportunity to visit a lost friend's world just to see them again, would you? Even knowing that there's a chance they might not remember you? It is a painful thing to be forgotten, but perhaps there could be a comfort in seeing them alive and happy once again -- a sense of closure that we so seldom receive in this world. Or as always, perhaps it's best to leave well enough alone. I'm just interested to hear where everyone falls in their opinions on the matter.

The room's a little dark but it's not impossible to see her thanks to a night light being on nearby. ]

[Oh, this is familiar. Aerith's back at it again with another self-made commercial. The video opens up to Aerith, standing in her garden with a sugary-sweet smile on her face.]

Happy spring, everyone! Isn't it beautiful? The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming - there's no better time to brighten up your home with some of my flowers, especially with all of the holidays coming up. Whether you're entertaining for Easter, getting a head start on Mother's Day, or you just want to show someone you care, I've got the best flowers around for you!

And I have some exciting news! I'm teaming up with a good friend for a special offer!

[And pan to Riku, who looks a hundred percent like he's regretting his life choices. He raises one hand in a facsimile of a greeting, eyes meeting the camera for a moment before he looks down at something in his other hand, offscreen.]

You really want me to say this...?

[Aerith hushes him from behind the camera, whispering back.]

It's fine! You got this!

[Riku's brows furrow. Stiffly, he recites, without looking up:]

Riku here. I'm very excited to tell you about our new team-up. Forgotten to pick up a gift for that -- [he clears his throat] -- special someone? Worry no longer, because we now offer no-wait delivery and flowergrams.

[Does he even know what a flowergram is? It's unclear.]

Order today...!

[He almost forgot to try sounding enthusiastic at the end there.]

Uh--

[Aerith doesn't sound sure about that take at all, but nevertheless, the camera cuts back to her.]

Place your orders right here, right now! Or come see me personally at Nonah 06 and pick out your own flowers right from my garden. Don't wait, or spring will hop right by you!
