[ For once, Josh looks... Well, he's not wearing the hoodie. So that's a plus. He's wearing a t-shirt of a metal band he's never heard of with a name he can't read and an ugly beanie, but it looked cool so here he is. Looking like he has words to say but he's not sure exactly how to say them. ]
So... They say things like, "with great power comes great responsibility." Like, you have these incredible abilities, and now you're obligated to use them for the greater good. Sure, you could do a lot of good in the world, but what about the personal cost?
Where's the line between duty and self-preservation?
[ He's not sure anymore. He keeps flip flopping. Thinking of all he should've gone, and could've done, but remembering what it cost him to do what he did. ]
I dunno. Maybe it's a bad case of the Mondays. What's your take on it?

I think everyone has to figure out for themselves where to draw that line. What's important to you? What's worth taking risks for? Nobody can answer that for you.
Besides, there are plenty of things we can all do for the greater good that don't involve risking our lives. Just look around.

I guess... I'm just kind of wondering where everybody else falls on the duty vs self preservation scale. My highschool was kind of big on the whole, "these are gifts and you have to use them" thing.

There are more consequences than death. Does duty make those worth it too?

I'm not doubting your sincerity, but I'm guessing there's probably some variance to the abilities, right? I mean, there is in my world. Not everybody has abilities suited to save the world, even if they really want to. So I guess what I'm getting at it - does the usefulness of your power to other people influence you in any way?

Personal cost? Like - sure, you can go out and do good, but what if it ends up costing you more than it ends up being worth? Like [ your teacher puts you on a death squad ] you get pushed to a point of no return, or you lose something precious to you because you went to far.

Guess... I'm just curious what people's preference on being damned is.

If it's only you that can prevent the outright destruction of the world, then — well, obviously, of course you have to do whatever it takes to save it. Even when it means your life. You wouldn't have much of one with the world destroyed, would you? Doing anything less is the stupidest choice you could make.
But if the scale is smaller, or your incredible abilities are the capabilities of dozens, or hundreds, or thousands of others — then, that just depends on your own personality, doesn't it?

I guess it depends if you think your inaction makes you responsible for whatever comes after.

I guess at the core of it is do you believe having a gift means you need to share it with the world.

It's a good question. I'd say power always comes with responsibility, but it's as much about what you don't do with them as what you do. Having abilities shouldn't draft you into risking your life, but it does obligate you not to be an asshole with them at the very least.
