[ Her voice trails off and she looks down for a moment, clearly uncertain about continuing on this course of action, but what other choice does she have? This is who she is. ]

I've been given a job here, like everyone else I guess, but I'd like to also keep doing what I'm used to. [ What she's good at. ] I taught violin back home. If anyone's interested in private lessons, I'll teach anyone regardless of age or ability.

[ A pause, and then, tentatively: ] I also played in an orchestra. Is there anything like that here?

What are the benefits to learning to play violin?

[ While some people might talk down to a child his age, Vanya is used to working with children of all ages. She addresses him with respect and the assumption of competence. ]

Improved memory and attention span, better posture and motor skills, and increased self-esteem and self-awareness, to name a few. I've personally witnessed those benefits in all my students.

What sort of commitment is the festival? I've never been to one before. And of course, I can teach you. You'd be my first student here.

What city were you placed in? Most Porter cities have their own native orchestras, or something close to it, but there's nothing specifically for imPorts. In Heropa, there's the Heropa Symphony - I can put in a good word for you, and I know De Chima has a solid one too.

If you want to teach violin as a full-time job, you might be better off sending an application into a local music school. They're usually pretty understanding of our, um, position as imPorts - as long as you can prove you've got what it takes, I'm sure someone will take you on.

Same goes for an orchestra. You can find most things here, if you want to.

I'll consider that, thank you. I wasn't sure if the people here would consider hiring an imPort for a position like that since it takes time to build rapport and make progress with students, and we don't know how long we'll be here.
