[ Claire may be from America, and she may be from the 20th century, but 1957 certainly didn't have devices that let you send your image to people in real time, or send words to a screen. Computers were only for NASA, which had large buildings to store them.
She's a little behind.
And so there's a woman squinting at the screen until she realizes she is actually recording and sits up straighter. ]
There. If I'm doing this correctly, I suppose I'll hear from someone. At least, I think I will. My name is Claire Fraser, newly...imported.
[ At least she's givingg her own last name correctly these days. There are some she introduced herself to as Mrs. Randall. That was before herpreferred husband dropped in. ]
I was wondering how easy or difficult it might be to change professions? For my husband, primarily, he--
[ How to put this delicately. ]
'Renaissance Fair actor' isn't quite in his wheelhouse. He doesn't even realize what that is. The 18th century wasn't exactly looking to begin recreating the past just yet. [ Even for her it's a very new concept. ] In any case, he does enjoy working with his hands and with horses. I like to think I know my husband, so if you have any ideas for employment, I would be grateful, even if it's simply to guide me toward a better source.
[ She pauses, eying the information she's written for prospects she already has in mind to follow up on before looking back toward the device. ]
If anyone works at the hospital, I'd like a word too, please. I enjoy working in medicine, and my assignment did get that correct. I would prefer not to work overnight shifts, but I wasn't sure if I'm there because there's an urgent need for it, or if there's another facility that could better fit a daytime schedule.
[ Claire has no idea how to end this and fumbles until she actually stops transmitting. She's trying. ]

You could set your own hours, at least.

Before I arrived here, I'd only just graduated medical school and accepted a position at Boston Hospital. I hadn't even had time yet to consider it yet.
[ There's definite gratitude on her face, easier to see now that she's getting the hang of this device. ]
Have you been here long enough to see what sort of variety the excitement comes in?
[ She's curious. ]
video;
[Hoo-boy.]
You'll see that we have some division and in-fighting. I guess that kinda thing transcends space and time?
And there's opposition from outside too, based on our presence here. Not everyone likes that we've popped up in this place, which I guess is, uh, putting it mildly. It might sound chaotic, but there's beautiful things here too. Maybe we just...need something more to bind us all together?
[She shrugs, but it's obvious she's been trying to piece this situation together also.]
A physician might be a good start.
Re: video;
Fortunately, or unfortunately, I've seen my fair share of fighting that results in the need for medical attention.
[ Both large and small scale. ]
Still, I suppose it will take some time to put together my own practice. In the meantime, I'd rather not have a schedule opposite my husband's if I can help it.

[ So far, so good. She'd been worried there were other ways to do this, though surely she isn't the only new person from a time that leaves her unsure what to do in a more modern version of the world. ]

Re: video;
I appreciate that. Is there more than one? A free clinic that is; you said you work at a clinic, should I look for one in particular?

Doctor Fraser. [A greeting and just a brief lift of his eyebrows to acknowledge the difference.] It sounds as though you've found yourself with familiar company. I'm quite glad to hear it. That sort of thing does make this place a bit easier to adjust to.
[He should know, given his favorite demon has arrived and his life makes a bit more sense again for it.]
If he's good working with his hands, I'm sure he'll be snapped up quickly for a position. ...however they do decide on jobs, there does seem to be a sort of strange sense of humor about it.
video
Aziraphale, I did. He was--
[ She clears her throat. ]
The time travel I told you about? It was...more complicated than I let on. And, out of curiosity, what was your job assignment?
[ They can tackle two topics at the same time, right? She may be a little worried he'll think she lied by omission now that she's admitting there was more too it. ]
video
[For his part, he can't begrudge her her secrets. He's a little too used to living his life with so many of his own secrets kept from just about everyone, human and angel alike. Mostly he's just happy if the first friend he's made here has found herself with a loved one close by.]
Gardener. At a place called Eden. It's a bit too on the nose, really. [His expression turns downright sheepish.] Reminds me of my first job, so to speak.
video
Eden. Whatever's in charge here, or whoever, I suppose, certainly has a sense of humor. Do you have abilities as well?
[ Eventually, she'll circle back to reunions and first jobs. For now, she holds up her free hand. ]
Apparently, my touch can now do quite a bit, but I haven't tested it yet.

That... helps.]
I do wonder how they come up with these work assignments.
[Jane, personally, has been given a position in a book store. A book store is fine... but she does feel as if she'd rather be doing something else.]
I suppose I don't mind mine awfully. Spending all day around books isn't all bad.
video;
Are you working in a library or bookstore then?

[And it smells divine. There's just something about the smell of old books.]
It's terribly difficult not to find myself a corner and simply read them all.

[ Well, that's a happy thing, then. ]

[V is mostly wondering if she heard that right, because this lady certainly doesn't look like she's from the 1700s.]
Uh - sorry, I must have heard that wrong.
no subject
You didn't hear incorrectly. I'm afraid I've left out some details, but my husband arrived here from the year 1754. It's...complicated.
no subject
[Yep. That sounds complicated, and Vanya has at least three questions already. But she's also deeply unsure in new social situations. Is making friends this hard for everyone? God, she hopes so.]
But you're...not, right?
no subject
No. I'm not. I suppose here I won't sound as insane, considering how we all arrive.
[ Still, she isn't used to saying it out loud. ]

But a face like hers can be a bit of a curiosity on its own, for someone apparently (???) displaced by centuries, so voice it is. ]
There's no penalty for changing, if you're concerned about that. The greater difficulty is, just, finding the task it is you want to do. Most around here will jump at the chance to hire people like us.
These days, horses are mostly novelty and sport, rather than labor or travel, so I suppose the options there would be, like... teaching other people how to ride, or the industry around horse-racing, or, pedigree breeding, perhaps. Things like that.
Mmm... I don't recommend broadcasting what they are, if you're both so fresh to this world, but... would his powers lend better to one industry or another? Presuming they're something useful, at least.
[ And presuming they're new and he's not secretly a centaur. ]

[ The fact that her husband was a farmer and mostly worked with his hands before being a leader was going to be hard to figure out even in his time, what with being a wanted felon. ]
His powers don't...well. They protect when needed. We simply haven't figured out how to get it to work on command.
[ They're both new to magic, powers, and abilities, with no point of reference. ]
Do people here take advantage of the powered?
no subject
I don't mean to frighten you, or anything. That kind of behavior isn't common. But, the possibility exists.
[ She hums a note, a dull little sound, like the audible version of a shrug. ]
Defensive abilities can be tricky. Some only want to react when danger is present, so it can be hard to coax that power to life when the situation isn't dire. It can be done, though. But it takes a lot of practice, and focus.
no subject
[ She says it casually, and there's even a hint of a smile there in her voice, but she means it. She's seen too much, has lost too much, to be afraid of people. ]
I'm not sure what to expect in the long-run while I'm here. I do know that with my new...abilities, I would rather help others as often as possible. Even if I'm not quite sure yet how they work. I'll figure it out, I suppose. Your advice and insight though, that's something I hadn't gotten yet. I appreciate it.
