[Anyone who has ever been in high school or seen one on TV will probably recognize the surroundings Bart is shooting in. The lockers and walls are painted in unappealing colors and the empty state says he's probably sneaking out during class to send this.]

So, I kinda have an important question. Does anyone know the proper procedures for testing out of high school as an imPort? Because I don't know about you, but I definitely can think of better ways to spend eight hours a day listening to lectures on material I already know.

And please, don't go all 'stay in school' TV special on me, because if I can test out, I'll still probably end up taking college classes, I just really need something that's a little more self-paced and a lot less waiting excruciatingly long times for the bells to ring.

[Looking around quickly, he starts to hurry along Generic High School Corridor #1 even as he goes to cut the feed. The hall monitor was coming.]

I think two more years of rote regurgitation is not what I call challenging. I don't need repetition to memorize stuff.

Do you have a guardian currently?

[There's a furrow as he thinks back to all the information he was given when he arrived.]

Other than the United States Government? No particular person. The last time I needed a guardian I ended up with this guy from the 1800s who grew up in the wild west.

[Not that he's going to say that was awful. Max was awesome, really. He just didn't appreciate it at the time.]

But that was back home.

[ Harry snickers, but nods. He knows and thinks that is funny. ]

I know that feeling.

Alright. Finish school today, and let me know where you attend. I can make an appointment for you at the closest center for a G.E.D.

If you have the materials, how long do you think before you would be comfortable with taking a GED test?

[ He has done this before, and is ready for this. ]

If I had the materials, there might be a few points for clarification, but pretty much as soon as I'd read them. I mean, I read my textbooks the first day of class, and have been doing my homework during the lectures because it's all I have to do, but I'm done with everything that's been assigned so far, and it's getting hard to just sit there.

[And it's not like Wally ever had that problem, or even Grandpa Barry because they don't hang onto what they learn at speed the way he does.]

And I've been doing it all normal-speed, too. [He tries not to sound like he's whining.]

[ Harry's eyebrows climb more and more as he listens and he nods. ]

Alright. I understand. I can get you an appointment to register and get the materials, and you can set the appointment to take the test at that time. If you want, I can come along for the first appointment. I'm called Harry Dresden, and I'm a teacher at HOPE, and that might smooth some... paperwork.

[ He means people who might not understand how a kid could work as fast and as smart as Bart. ]

Okay, um, yeah, I guess I probably should meet you in person, if you can help with this.

I thought it would be fine, but it's...yeah. It's like I actually managed to forget how much torment is involved in sitting at a desk being lectured by teachers who clearly don't know the material as well as they think. And pointing that out just leads to spending time in detention.

And it's not that I want to get out of school, I just want to actually learn stuff.

[ Harry nods, sympathetic. He can only imagine. ]

I understand. I tried that once and it didn't sit well with me, either.

We'll get this situated for you.

Sooner than you think, you'll be on your way to whatever you want to do next.

By the time you are out of school, today, I should have an appointment set-up.

I'll probably try out a whole bunch of stuff at one of the community colleges. I don't really know what I would want a degree in. Nothing too squishy like philosophy.

That makes sense. We'll get you set up.

Um, Bart. Bart Allen. It's short for Bartholomew, like my grandfather.
