Hey, so like - here's a question that's gonna sound like a humblebrag no matter how I phrase it. So, like, I was a teen superhero and I haven't really been able to hold down a job before for like, a lot of reasons, and some of them are obvious. But I have one here and it like, pays really nicely soo....

[ he shrugs awkwardly, trying to think of how to actually phrase what he wants to ask. ]

What do you do with like - money. Like, a lot of money. I mean - not a lot a lot, I'm not like crazy rich but... [ because somehow he never realized how much money doctors make slash no one in the marvel universe is going to hire a mutant with his powerset ] So I'm thinkin' of getting my own place, but I know for a fact there's plenty of responsible adult things that people do with their leftover cash that aren't just letting it hang out in the bank or donating it all to charity.

I just, y'know... Need some help with what they are.

Invest it. Take what you want or need for getting your own place, if that's what you want. Invest the rest. Buy real estate, be an investor for someone who wants to start a small business that you believe in, or purchase stocks and bonds. If you have a 401K, bump up your contribution.

You could always donate it to a local charity. Most of what I make goes to a non-profit no-kill shelter in Heropa.

Lend your friend a bit of money so he can finish making the tools and getting the supplies to upgrade his glasses so that he might be willing to make you a set of computer glasses?

But seriously, my thought? I'm starting to notice a lot of issues with younger imPorts. Being forced to live with strangers, not having the income to fully support themselves especially if they have heightened metabolisms and thus food needs, and no support if they need to, say, try and get emancipated to take charge of their own lives.

Not saying be Charles Xavier. Saying maybe helping kids get settled.

[And David will be sure to pay him back in as short of order as he can. Tutoring doesn't pay well and he hasn't decided yet if he wants to change over to the medical field with a possible line of work opening in psychology.]

You don't have to do it yourself. You can probably hire someone to run it. A foundation as it were. But I'm just brainstorming.

Life-hack: you don't have to be stable if you have stable people to help.

Oh, you tell your employer a percentage of your annual salary that you'd like to sock away for retirement. Typically, they'll match some percentage of your percent, so you get free money.

[ Why Derek knows this when he's working his first job here at the ripe age of thirty, who knows. It's probably Peter's fault. ]

Some employers don't offer them as benefits, I guess. Mine doesn't.

Power levels like that don't matter here, Josh. But you seem a bit more composed than you were as a kid. So that's something.

I don't think I've ever had it in me to thank one of them for something.

Oh yeah...that's a good point. Well, then just invest it otherwise. Getting a stake in a small business is a good way to support small business while also potentially expanding your own profit. It's something I always wanted to do back home but never really knew how to go about it. I ended up going with real estate. I bought an abandoned apartment building with the intention of eventually flipping it, but things were always crazy back home. I never had time. Not my wisest investment, for that reason.

Or, you know, you could just set it aside in a savings account for a rainy day or for emergencies.

You've had better experiences with him than I have, then. Both of them.

[Because of a lot of things.]

Then I'd shake their hands. But only for you.

You don't have to invest a lot to invest. Let's say you have a friend with a good idea for a business. They need $10,000 to start, but you've only got $500 to play with. Throw them that $500 for a smaller stake in their business. You're still investing, you just get less of a profit from the investment.

Again, there's also saving it, especially if you can get a bank account that'll give you interest.

Yeah this is my first job ever, actually, and it's weird having to follow a schedule someone else is setting for me. I'm not that into it.

[ He really, really misses being independently wealthy, shit... ]

Of course he was and he does. Erik just constantly has to serve as a thorn in the side of mutant-kind.

[Of course he should be worried.]

I can respect your desire to hide things from me given you're going through very different things back home than I am.

I won't push.

[Even though he really, REALLY wants to.]

That is the unfortunate hard part, isn't it?

There's a few that are vetted through the community. You could reach out to a local charity that is currently running a program and see if they can recommend you others?
