Hey, so like - here's a question that's gonna sound like a humblebrag no matter how I phrase it. So, like, I was a teen superhero and I haven't really been able to hold down a job before for like, a lot of reasons, and some of them are obvious. But I have one here and it like, pays really nicely soo....
[ he shrugs awkwardly, trying to think of how to actually phrase what he wants to ask. ]
What do you do with like - money. Like, a lot of money. I mean - not a lot a lot, I'm not like crazy rich but... [ because somehow he never realized how much money doctors make slash no one in the marvel universe is going to hire a mutant with his powerset ] So I'm thinkin' of getting my own place, but I know for a fact there's plenty of responsible adult things that people do with their leftover cash that aren't just letting it hang out in the bank or donating it all to charity.
I just, y'know... Need some help with what they are.

[ HE KNOWS... THESE NUMBERS SURE. ]
How does that, uh, work?

[ Why Derek knows this when he's working his first job here at the ripe age of thirty, who knows. It's probably Peter's fault. ]
Some employers don't offer them as benefits, I guess. Mine doesn't.

[ joshua "i slept through my math classes" foley is not to be trusted with his own finances. ]
Mine probably does. I hadn't even thought about retirement. [ because you know, imPort stuff aside he's technically immortal and how do you decide when to retire when that's a thing. ] But I guess that kinda thing is useless when you run the risk of getting ported out.

There's a few that are vetted through the community. You could reach out to a local charity that is currently running a program and see if they can recommend you others?

But seriously, my thought? I'm starting to notice a lot of issues with younger imPorts. Being forced to live with strangers, not having the income to fully support themselves especially if they have heightened metabolisms and thus food needs, and no support if they need to, say, try and get emancipated to take charge of their own lives.
Not saying be Charles Xavier. Saying maybe helping kids get settled.

[ SHRUG... GING... ]
Second thing? Dude, do I look like a stable enough dude for that? [ because if he does then he might be finally doing something right. ] I spent most of my teens homeless, I'm like, the least capable person to help get anybody settled.

You don't have to do it yourself. You can probably hire someone to run it. A foundation as it were. But I'm just brainstorming.
Life-hack: you don't have to be stable if you have stable people to help.

A lot of conventional advice isn't going to be useful here, and you'd need to make sure to put in clauses for what should happen to your money when or if you're Ported out. Derek's right that most people invest it. The details will depend on your risk tolerance, morals, and the amount of money involved.
no subject
[ haha MORALITY that's a thing he's been shaky on. ]
What's morality gotta do with it?
no subject
I mean, at this point, it depends on what your goals are. If you honestly don't have any beyond immediately supporting yourself, then yeah, just give it away.
If I can be self-interested for a second, I'm going to try to get together a company that will financially help out ImPorts and we could use more funding, but that's still in the planning stage.

[ A whole lot of things, really. Iris feels him; she got a lot of her own wealth from working way too many jobs. ]
I mean, there had to be something other than work and superheroing that you liked, right?

[ until his life turned into a video game slash comic. ]
I guess I wanna help people with it and grow a little money in case, I dunno, I get ported out and suddenly all I can do is make toast with my mind.
video »
In that case, I'd look into charities that align with your interests - like um, maybe a charity for helping with imPort-caused disaster relief, or one that gets comics to sick kids - and opening up a savings account. Oh, and a lawyer, for dealing with your money while you're ported out.
