Geeze, a guy goes out of town for a few weeks and he misses all the excitement.

[Carter's in his room, with a couple of half-unpacked bags visible in the background. As usual, half his face is out of the frame.]

Uh, so I was trying to get caught up, and someone suggested I check my messages in my inbox? I said I wasn't sure what room the inbox was, and they said it was in this thing.

[He shakes the phone, then apologizes for shaking it to the audience. Sometimes he forgets that tiny thing is a whole entire camera.] Anyone know how you get an inbox set up? Sorry to be a pain, I know I'm kind of a fossil compared to some of you.

[ It's been long enough that Knock Out actually assumed you'd Ported out. ]

Thanks! We should go get a drink sometime when things are less confusing, I can tell you about my trip.

I'll have to distill some more high-grade for that, my stock became... very recently depleted.

[ It was actually nothing like that, more like an emotional roller coaster binge. Not one of his finest nights. Thankfully his finish has since recovered, and he's not keen to dwell on it. ]

[ Knock Out gives an all-over body shudder at the mention of zombies; you can actually hear some of his plating clank when he does. ]

Evidently. I've had enough of zombies after dealing with Terrorcons. Also, human films lied, shooting them in the head doesn't kill them.

[ He sounds grumpy about this fact. ]

Aren't they already killed?

Re-killed? It doesn't stop them like it was supposed to, in any case.

They stopped moving when I went after them, but uh....well, they also didn't really have their limbs or anything attached afterwards. Also I had to go back for more groceries.

Oh? Removing limbs is usually my specialty. What did you do to them?

[ It occurs to Knock Out that he has no idea what kind of powers Carter even has. ]

Oh, I just exploded. [You know. Like you do.]

... come again?

[Carter steps back from the camera. He holds his hands cupped together, like he's got water in there. Between them there's a soft glow, then suddenly a fizz and popping like a large match being struck and a tiny explosion occurs in his palm. He's grinning wide the entire time.]

So like that, but my whole body. It doesn't hurt none, I just go up to them and boom - they're gone and I'm still here.

[ archly: ] Why Sergeant Carter, you've been holding out on me! That's a very useful little ability. I'd love to know how it works.

I don't know, I think it's a nanite thing. It's loads of fun, though. When I was on vacation I got to be out in places where I could really cut loose - it's too dangerous to go full blast when I'm in a city.

You know, outside of Jeopardy city limits is nothing but miles and miles of empty desert. Perhaps I might entice you to give a little demonstration some time? In the name of science, naturally.

Maybe we can take that drink on the road, huh? [Already grinning at the idea.]

Hi, Mysterio! No, it's not set up, not yet.

Work took me out of town for a few weeks to help with clearing out a construction space, and then I did a little vacation time. Went in a volcano, that was real fun. I wanted to take pictures but it probably would have melted the camera.

It sounds like you had an interesting time.

So, on your device there should be some kind of app for messaging. It could say something about voice or text.

Did you ever have an answering machine?

No. I never had a phone that talked back to me at all. I mean, beyond the usual talking a phone does. [He picks up the device and starts poking at the buttons, which makes the part of him in-frame shake.]

Maybe look in settings.

[He's not sure if they have the exact same device.]

Uh. [Carter reads off a number of items, eventually getting to 'voice mail'.]

Click on that. It should instruct you. Then you should be able to record your own message.

Ok--

[And the video clicks off. It's several minutes before Carter is ready to reconnect again. Now, he looks confused.]

Wait, aren't other people supposed to record messages? What do I say on mine? I just told it to tell people that this was Andrew Carter's inbox and it was for messages.

You can say whatever you want. People often confirm it's them and tell people to leave a message, like it seems you've done.

Now, people can leave messages for you.

...when will they do that?

Any time. When they want to contact you.

[Kenzi's not in frame when she starts up her response, instead there's a curious green and pink scalie creature sniffing at the comm. The sound of shuffling, followed by a voice, can be heard just off screen.]

Unless you happen to be a few centuries old you're no fossil. Yet.

Aw, yeah, I think I'm only ninety-something depending on how you're counting. That's a neat-looking pet you got there, what is this?

[Shifting into Talking To Pets Voice] Hey, boy, how you doing?

[Sir Apple bats at the comm in response to the voice, oddly cat-like despite its appearance. He doesn't get a chance to do much more as a well-manicured hand moves into frame shooing him away as the comm moves to focus on Kenzi.]

That's Sir Apple, he's a fairy dragon.

Eh not as old as some of my friends from home...though getting there. Take it you haven't been around long?

A fairy dragon? [The phone shifts - Carter's trying to somehow turn it so he can see the dragon, even though that's not at all how the camera on the other end works.] Can you make him go in front of the camera again? I've never seen one like him before.

[Kenzi grins, clearly amused by him trying to get the camera to turn to show Sir Apple.]

Sure. [She moves, setting up the comm on her nightstand, now showing that she's settled on her bed with the fairy dragon curled up next to her. However, the moment the comm is set back down the little critter rises with a stretch and makes his way over so that he fills the entirety of the screen.]

[Baby talk ensues to the tiny cute little whatever the heck that is. A fairy dragon? Both things at once? Who knows how that even works, Carter's just enjoying the view.]

Where'd you get him, anyway?

[It's difficult to tell if Sir Apple enjoys the baby talk or not, though he does knock over the comm after much pawing at it.]

Hey! That's rude! [Kenzi claps and picks the comm back up. The little dragon is nowhere in sight.]

Er, he was just kind of with me when I showed up?

I wish I could have one of those. Or play with them. Do they have shelters for them like they do for dogs, the ones that no one wants?

I don't think he's native to this world so probs not.

Do they have a lot of them where you're from?

[Her gaze drifts off to the side, shuffling can be heard in that direction.]

Naw. I think dragons went extinct a long time ago.

That's a shame. They did in my world too, only we call them dinosaurs there, I think.

Oh, dinosaurs were a thing too. Though it wouldn't surprise me if some of those fossils was actually dragons.

[She rises and disappears from view for a few moments before returning with Sir Apple in her arms.]

The Fae just wouldn't let folks know about that.
