How do you know you're real?

How do you know that someone else didn't write you, paint you, dream you? How do you know you're not just a figment of someone else's imagination? A fictional thing.

And most importantly, would it matter to you? To be as such? Or to know that other is as such? Would it change the way you think of yourself or someone else? Can you truly be more than whatever someone else thought you up to be?

Are we really ever free?

I've wondered this sort of thing in the past myself, but in the end I figure it doesn't matter all that much? What we experience is what we experience, whether we're viewing it through a lens given to us or a lens of our own making. Our fear is real to us. Our pain is real to us. Our joys are real to us. So even if we're not objectively real on a universal standard, we're still experiencing the things around us as real.

Freedom is hard to define. Even people who think they're free can be chained down by something like a social construct that does not benefit the majority of people. But on the other hand, even if they are held down by that thing, so long as they can exert free will, with or without consequences, they are on some level free. Does that make sense?

Yes, it does.

I guess that when reason fails, there is always the unspeakable, unknowable. The feelings and the beliefs we carry. Even doubting is evidence we have the will to do so, I guess.
