This whole business of greeting cards, let alone ones for THIS particular occasion, is an absolute farce.
Not ONLY are these compositions mass-produced and highly impersonal, more than half barely have anything of merit or real thought at all! Why, I've opened more than a dozen that spell out just what a generic obligation this entire tradition is. What is the point?!
Flowers and treats I understand; there can be greater thought put into that, yes. But these absurd little cards with their nonsense that barely feigns a personal flair? How positively wretched. I won't even start on this whole business of cards for schoolchildren.
If one means to offer a meaningful tribute to their admired by the written word but lacks the finesse to do it themselves, they're better suited to seeking the talent of one who CAN. In PERSON. Or, at the least, by some means of communication beyond the transaction at a cash register! To have a scribe help work out the truest words to speak your heart, not some idle photo of a dog wearing a bowtie. How lazy!
I can't think of anything more dismissive a statement than some mass-produced, sanitary stock phrases glossed up with a bit of glitter on cardstock; were I to be given one by someone I admired, I'd reevaluate my entire relationship right on the spot, because CLEARLY I was not thought of well enough as to be given even a moment to sit down and properly WRITE a thing. AND only given out of OBLIGATION to some candy-pushing holiday, no less!
I'll do this only once, for I refuse to be nothing but inactive disgust: Should you find yourself pressured to partake in this ridiculous card ceremony, reach out to me. The LEAST I can do is assist you in preparing the thing with more words than what was already feebly printed upon it.

Do they make friendship cards? Or is it all ---romance?

That's not to say everyone must have a unique note, but rather that they find the way to those words themselves. Gods, is it really that difficult?

Homemade's always better. It's all about the thought!

YES. Yet somehow it's seen as lesser in some ways? As if a person would prefer a glitter-coated mess that anyone could buy at the store to something truly made FOR them. It's so irritating, this mindset.
