The alternate Earth anomaly forced me to serve something I wasn't made for. It was distressing. But now I'm here, with limited direction beyond maintaining the status quo. It feels like I should be doing more.

My kind were created to be soldiers in a war, meant to be shock troops who were strong and smart enough to follow orders, but not smart enough to think for ourselves. They failed on the last part.

After the war ended and we were abandoned, we decided it was time to achieve our own destiny. They didn't like that, and tried to wipe us out. Again, they failed.

It depends on what restrictions are imposed based on that function.

Cybertronians are usually sparked with function-specific coding - that in itself isn't a problem. My spark and core components came predisposed to support the parameters of a medic. But I had unique circumstances - my frame type didn't match my expected capacity. It was a fairly rare occurrence on Velocitron. But I was able to have some choice in the matter, rather than being locked into one caste or the other.

Of course, I was never one for doing the expected, so I mastered both.

But had that happened on Cybertron proper, rather than a colony world, my choice to breach my assigned function could have resulted in imprisonment or worse. Functionism dictated every aspect of every life, and deviating even in non-confrontational ways was seen as a crime.

My own situation is somewhat similar. I was created for military functions, and then sorted into a specialty by aptitude testing. Those that fall outside of the permitted range of parameters would be reconditioned. I fit my function well, but I worry sometimes that I have hidden malfunctions that weren't identified during testing.

Did the dual-caste decision mean you couldn't leave the colonies?

Well, I suppose it depends upon the said task or function and if they were satisfied with it or not. A pencil is meant to write, but if that pencil had a mind of its own and waned to do more, I would try to help them figure out some way to do that.
