You know? Today is a great day.

[For those who know Nico, the bright smile and the cheery attitude is a far cry from how the teen usually is.]

I found a new comic shop! They carry a game that's kind of like Mythomagic, which is a card game from my world. It's super fun. It has some of the monsters I'm familiar with, but they've added the cryptids too! The game guide is really hard to read through but I think I've got the gist of it. Though can Jersey Devil really beat Medusa? I don't know.

[That's when he realizes he's excitedly rambling. He flushes a bit, embarrassed before scratching the back of his head.]

Oh. Sorry! That's not why I got on though. I was thinking that we should do another teen movie night! We had a lot of fun that one time with the horror films and I think it'd give us something to do while we deal with [he waves his arms] all of this.

What do you say?

[Who knew all it took was a little magic to cheer this kid up with the smile he's giving the camera.]

[Once again: Thank the gods for small blessings. He recognizes the shops behind Nico, one of the local streets he's frequented enough times to know it's close. Between Nico's newfound enthusiasm for all things related to life and living, and dealing with Marty being a puppy, Will's kind of running on fumes and doesn't want to go chasing his boyfriend all over porter cities.

So with a quick text [Hey, you're close. I'll meet you halfway.] to Nico, Will's out the door and trying to find him. Better to do that before this positivity streak lands them in trouble only a demigod could find.]

[Thank the gods for talk to text! Nico glances around from where he left the comic book store to where he is now and takes a seat on the first bench he finds.]

I stopped moving.

[Why? Just, why is Nico so cute when he's excited? He's going to die this week--or however long this is lasting for.]

If you're still on the street you where on, it shouldn't take me long to find you.

[It really is just a matter of minutes after sending that text that he spots Nico, planted on a bench, purchase from the comic store in hand.]

Hey.

Hey! [ He leaps up from the bench, hastily shoving the cards into the bag. ] So. Are we still on for dinner? Or did we plan to do breakfast tomorrow?

[Seriously? This adorableness is going to be the death of him.]

We could do both. [A grin, a shrug, a level of ease that definitely doesn't mesh with the way his stomach does flips at the implication of that invitation.] It'd save us porting in and out, having to meet up again...

Inviting me to stay the night, huh? [ He nudges Will's side with a grin. ]

It would make things easier.

[Okay. This was downright illegal. Nico wasn't allowed to be both adorable and teasing in the span of the same ten minutes. Will was not handling it well, if the red color starting to flood his face was anything to go by.]

But first, dinner? [Let him salvage this moment.]

Are you embarrassed about asking me to stay the night?

[ Nico can't stop grinning at that. Normally he would be absolutely embarrassed, nervous about how he was going to handle staying the night but-- he felt like he could do anything right now. ]

Let's go! Dinner sounds amazing. What are you thinking?

N-No. [He's more used to you being weird and awkward and--and he is so not prepared for this. He's going to die.]

...You're in a good mood. I might be persuaded to allow less than healthy choices in food today.

[He looks a little wary, anyone happy and aware of the strange things that happen here deserves a little suspicion.]

What kind of movies?

I didn't think that far. I haven't seen a lot of movies since I was born in the 1932 so I'm pretty much up for anything.

We did horror last time cause it was October I think.

[Any wariness disappears at the thought of bringing this guy up to date on movies.]

Holy shit! There's tons of movies you should see. E.T, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the future, Ghostbusters..you've missed a lot.

[Up to date = eighties movies to him.]

Then we gotta do it! Maybe we can find one of those movies here. Ghostbusters sounds fun!

At least the title sounds fun.

It is fun! It's a really funny movie. If we can't find it here, maybe we can find something close to it.

All right! When do you want to try? I can take a look at the video store by where I live.

Any time after school gets out is good with me.

Movie night, huh? Care to provide a little bit more detail? Are we talking the "bagged popcorn and gummies" kind of movie night or the "smuggle in beer and rage" kind of movie night?

[Honestly, Ryuko could go for either—she really needs to find some other teens to bitch about school with—but she's never been to a proper high school party before, and is significantly more intrigued by the latter possibility.]

Probably both! I can't control what other people bring but at least keep the alcohol away from the other kids if they've never had it before.

[ Oh look! Someone new. That's exciting! He's down to meet new people.

Hell yes.

[Ryuko would never admit it, but she's just as excited for the "gummies and popcorn" part as the "underaged drinking" part. She never got any Teen Party Experiences back home.]

So what movies were you thinking of bringing? It's been a while since I've watched any American flicks.

Well, we did horror movies last time. Really. Shitty horror movies.

[ He shrugs. ]

I'm not familiar with most films. Like, the last movie I saw in the theatre was Snow White? Maybe we could all pick something! I've got a projector at Hades and we could run it there.

Yeah. My sister took me to see it.

[ Oh right. New person. ]

Oh. Right. I was born in 1932. [ As if that answers anything about him really. ] It's kind of a long story.

1932, huh? Damn.

Well, I don't really have anything but time right now, so...

Yeaaah. The last thing I remember was the second great war. The newspapers were talking about air raids happening in Australia.

[ He should really go back and read what happened, but how different was the war here versus the war he managed to escape. ]

There's a card game with cryptids? Can you tell me more about it?

Okay so, each monster has a certain attack power, as well as strengths and weaknesses. You get these energy cards [ He lifts one up to show off ] to help give it strength.

I got a few item cards but they are really, really hard to read. [ He sighs, rubbing his face. ] Like there's too much information so I don't know how they work yet.

I managed to pull Cthulhu, Medusa, Cerberus, and the Jersey Devil. I'm not sure if there's like a guaranteed amount of monster cards you can get in a pack though. [ He's super stoked as he holds up each card. ] Cerberus doesn't really look, like this though.

That kind of sounds like Magic! As in the card game, not the actual thing. If playing Magic was actually magic, we'd have trouble.

[It would be so cool though.]

Hmm. Maybe you just need to reread them. My teachers say to take one sentence at a time if we don't understand something. And use context clues.

But what does Cerberus look like then? And how do you know?

Reading isn't really my best skill. [ He admits. ] It's hard to focus on English and I get words and letters mixed up all the time.

[ He sighs, but he doesn't seem put out about it. ]

Oh! Cerberus kind of looks like a rottweiler but has these spots in his fur along his legs. He's really good at keeping the Shades in line and he loves playing fetch. [ He blinks. ]

I'm the son of Hades.

[Jane nods.]

Yeah, English can be weird. Is it your second language?

[She then blinks.]

No. Way. As in Greek god Hades? Not the place. I don't know why people keep getting that mixed up, it irks my mom so much. Are you from ancient Greece then? Does Cerberus really like fetch?

Yeah. I learned Italian first, but I still get letters mixed up.

[ But he's smiling at that. ]Yeah! Hades the God. The Unseen One. I'm not from ancient Greece, but I was born in Italy in 1932.

Cerberus loves fetch. I make it a point to play with him when I visit now.

Yeah. I do too. It's supposed to get easier with more practice, but there are so many rules!

[She smiles brightly, but then it turns into a frown as she calculates.]

Wait. This world can bring people in from other points of time?? Whoa.

How often do you visit? I thought that you couldn't leave the Underworld whenever you wanted. It's the Underworld.

My life is a horror film.

[Says the incredibly jaded ten year old.]

Whose life isn't a horror film? [ He's grinning. ] So we don't watch horror movies then. What kind of movie would you want to watch?

And want to tell me about your life? I gotta know since I grew up being chased around by monsters and being betrayed by the Gods. You know. Average demigod life.

I don't know. I don't watch many movies. I like reading.

Zombies.

Oh man. I like books being read to me. Reading's hard.

Zombies? Oh man they must be pretty bad if that's the case. My chauffeur is a zombie.
