[Kang is sitting in a chair on the back porch of his residence, enjoying the evening weather. The sun is setting, making the bronze of his scales almost seem to glow.]
I was lucky enough to be placed in a job that was very similar to what I once did on my world, and with coworkers that were more than willing to teach me rather than deride my centuries-worth gap of knowledge.
[In both this world and the world with Lachesis. Kang smiles slightly and shrugs.]
My ImPort status, plus my past decades of experience, was enough to place me in a job that normally requires a bachelor's degree. That status can only get us so far, though. Without at minimum a GED, I wasn't allowed promotions. [A quiet snort.] At least, not officially. But, as of Friday, I have completed and passed all the portions of the GED and subsequently received a promotion to junior project manager.
To think, I was only allowed to learn engineering as the butt of a joke.
[His smile goes, briefly, to wry, before becoming more genuine.]
Some of you may know of the work being done in the Heropa city park, renovating and creating more paths. One of the paths is slated to go over the lake on the east end; the one with the small island in the center of it. My first project is managing the design and construction of two bridges to span it, and a gazebo for the island itself. It's not a challenging project, true, but I didn't expect anything else; I would do the same in their position.
[That announcement out of the way, he relaxes into his seat and sighs.]
On an unrelated note, I have somehow been talked into going to a Halloween party later this month with a mandatory costume rule. I'm probably going to regret this, but... I would appreciate suggestions that aren't dragon or demon, or anything ridiculous.
