[It had taken a lot of time for Atsushi to even consider college. This world didn't seem to press for it, so he had almost talked himself out of wanting an education. But living with two teachers and their student makes it hard to ignore school and learning. Eventually, he'd decided to look into it... and, naturally, found a disappointing roadblock.
Still. Atsushi is determined to make use of his time here. So even if it's a little bit (very) embarrassing, he figures there is no harm in trying.]
Good day. Sorry to be a bother.
I was wondering what everyone here knew about getting a high school education? Like... Say you're too old to go to high school anymore, but you... can't pass the college acceptance exam as you are now. And you don't even know what a major is exactly... But you're interested.
[He's definitely not talking about himself, he would like to say! But Atsushi is very bad at lying.]
I'm probably not smart enough to do any of the science courses-- I mean. Uh. If the 'you' I'm talking about wasn't smart enough to... [uck] The point is. What kinds of things can you even go to college for that aren't science? If I-- you, could even get in.
[Lying is so exhausting!]

[Sorry, you asked about education.]
There are methods to educate oneself if thou desire to turn to academia, also as an ImPort there may be differing rules on qualifications to enter in to such endeavors. I also recall there being some... equivilancy to gaining a certification from a High School.

[He doesn’t just think he wouldn’t pass an exam: Atsushi knows it. His education is hardly something he’s confident in.]
Have you looked into school here?

But that’s okay! Impressive, actually. What kinds of things did you study, if you don’t mind my asking?
Permavid
There's all sorts of degrees available. What are you interested in doing?
no subject
... I spent a lot of time in the library. Maybe... Library something or a literature degree? Do those exist?

[Well. Atsushi had read as much in a brochure, but he hadn't known what it meant. 'Library Science' sounds complicated, but reading literature can't be hard. The idea of learning English also piques his interest. If he became fluent, maybe he could apologize to that Montgomery girl in her native language.]
Sorry if this is rude to ask, but have you been to university? You seem to know a lot about what they offer.

Video.
How fast you graduate depends on you. You sound like a loser.

[Wait, he just admitted this is about him. Atsushi sighs.]
Do you know what Americans learn in high school? [He won’t address being a loser.]
no subject
It ain't that different from Japan, but the material is disgustingly easy. You don't learn Japanese, but you do learn math, the level depending on where you're at academically, English, some kind of history or social science course and some sort of science. You can also take foreign languages or other shit too.

You sound like you must really like school, though? Do you have to attend here?

What did you study, then? And do outside of college?

[There's a pause, and he considers for a moment.] I could probably tutor you in a couple of subjects if you want, too. Depends on what you need help with.
no subject
[This is embarrassing. Maybe he should have gone to his roommates first after all.]
I haven’t decided yet. I like the library? But that probably won’t be very useful, will it?
[... tutoring. He’s ashamed to admit just how much help he might need that. Atsushi was never praised for learning, but only punished for what he couldn’t grasp.]
I don’t want to trouble you. Aren’t you already busy with your students here?

Not being good at science doesn't mean you're not smart. People have different kinds of smarts. You should look into 'arts' courses, like literature, history, geography, politics. Or business classes like economics. Or into education or law. There's lots of options.
no subject
Oh, and I didn't mean it that way. I don't think people who are good at those other things are any less intelligent. It's just that I don't think I'd be a good fit for anything too complicated, that's all.

vidya;
By now I'm pretty sure you know what a GED is, so- ( taking a swig of water here, ) -If college isn't an option and you're more interested in working with your hands, maybe hit up trade school.
Either way, you're gonna want some kind of academic assessment testing, and tutoring for the basics. Are you registered?
no subject
Maybe he's going about it wrong?]
I am registered, yes... and that I may need tutoring, unfortunately.

( Tony totally looked into it, shortly after bullying Hiro about college. )
Look, I work for a high school here in Heropa. Right now, anyway. But if you're serious about wanting to go back to school, I can talk to some people.
