➀ - ᴠᴏɪᴄᴇ

The last time I woke up in a strange place was right after I died.

[ She chuckles, though the sound is tinged with the faintest hint of nervous energy. There's no image to go along with the voice, but the voice is thoroughly female, English and cheerful, if a little ... sarcastic. Whether she's joking or telling the truth is anyone's guess. She sure sounds like she might be joking... ]

So I've spoken to the um, locals and them here a bit, but a second opinion never hurt anyone; This isn't some big Hallowe'en joke, is it? It's not even the right time of year for it. Like everyone here is alive and well and we've all got super powers. I mean yeah I heard the big speech, but how is any of this actually real? We're not all in some weird ... afterlife or anything, are we?

-- I s'pose I should just out and ask, anyway. Anyone know a George Sands? Nina Pickering? George is a tall bloke, bit big in the ears. Nina's a little thing- seriously, she's-- [ uh ] --blonde. And a nurse. They both are, actually. Or they were. And ... Mitchell. It's a last name, but it's what he goes by. Broody, dark hair, probably hasn't bathed in a while- he gets busy. If anyone's seen or knows them, I'd love to hear about it.

... Well, that's it. Thanks! [ click. this is a phone type call, isn't it? Yeah. ]

Far as I can recall, I wasn't dead before I showed up here. Unless you want to count "almost died" into the buggin' mix. What's with that kind of question, anyway? You sayin' you were dead or something?

[She died!?

Rei gives himself a moment to absorb that so he doesn't just blurt rude questions into the communicator, before he answers.]

I don't remember dying, so I don't think it's that, but... you died, and remember it?

Oh, and I'm sorry, but I haven't met anyone by those names.
gluestick: (oh your eyes they show it all)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-01 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure it's not an afterlife. Pretty sure it's also not anything good, either, though nothin' seems to be trying to kill us here that I've seen.

[That's not much of a save, and he sounds skeptical on the other end of the line.]

You sure? Cause it kinda sounds like you were saying you were dead. Who else in their right mind would ask a question like that?
theoryandcalculation: (i've studied the theories)

I don't think anyone really remembers that part. I was sitting on a train, and then I was here. [Though he had been half asleep at the time, but that's beside the point.]

They might not be. None of my friends were here when I arrived, even the one I'd been with before they brought me. [He's sorry to tell her this, but it's the truth.]
gluestick: (and try to chase the crazy)

[Being attacked by shit on a constant basis was pretty much a way of life for Newt, so this is definitely a step up, even if he doesn't trust all of it.]

Well, I distinctly remember not bein' dead. And I've got a pulse here and everything, so I think it's a safe bet to say I'm still not dead. Come close a few times, but I'm still kicking. I remember everything up until showin' up in the bloody Porter here, and it doesn't feel like anything's missing for me.

Is it different for you?

You too, huh?

[The deadpan to Kite's voice could be mistaken as joking, too, but he's serious. He was in the middle of a life-or-death fight. This being the afterlife is the thing that makes the most sense, honestly.]

It certainly feels real, at any rate, and you're not the only one confused.

There are people who are brought here and revived in the process. It's not the most common variable, but it's a present one none the less.

I don't know the names you're asking after. I'm sorry.
gluestick: (shoot it down)

[personal profile] gluestick 2014-10-01 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Rude!! He's probably 17. He's not actually sure about that, though. One thing he is sure about is that he's not dead and he doesn't want anyone to go writing him off so quickly.]

So, were you dead? [Such tact with this one.] How about now? Are you not dead? Heart beatin' and all that?

[Because if this place can bring people back from the dead... Well, then maybe Alby might have a chance at showing up. Chuck too. Though he still isn't sure he'd wish it on them when he knows nothing about this place himself. But somehow, he's sure that it beats the ends they met.]

The Porter manages to pull people across dimensions. Creating bodies in this world may be what it can do - and it might explain why we go back as easily as we do, who knows. I don't have a better answer than "the Porter is likely responsible, and it doesn't need your actual body."

[ since annie was also kind of crystal before this and now she's not so......... ]

It's a mechanical device and technology that might even be self aware that operates as a teleportation device within this world and as a uncontrolled gateway summoning people between universes. More or less.

You can pass along your regards if you end up using it to travel between cities.

[He doubts it, but he doesn't really want to argue with her about this particular thing.] Maybe. People tend to arrive in large groups, so your friends could still be coming.

Mediums talk to ghosts, right? [Something he thought was impossible, but he's starting to give up on what he thought was impossible and what's not since coming here.]

Transit? Like the bus, or a train? You can use those, too. The cities themselves are in different states many miles and hours of travel time by the faster systems away from each other. The Porter and smaller porters help cut down that travel time.

I'm not sure what you mean by scifi?

[Gross, old people. As a guy coming from a place where they oldest person might have been 18, it's weird meeting people beyond that age bracket.]

Well, you could've been. I haven't got a bloody clue how this place might work when it comes to that. So you're decidedly livin' now. That's weird. How is it even possible to revive somebody like that? No offense.
