★ 002: Video ★
What happens to the animals that get adopted by imPorts who vanish? Is there a re-homing business just for them, or...
[ Bucky slumps down on video, sitting at the breakfast table in Heropa #6, chin propped up against his right hand. Judging by the blend of concern and sincerity in his expression, the assassin has been thinking about this for a while. ]
Does someone even check on them? I mean, I've been considering a pet, but I'd like to know that it would find another home if something happened to me. On a related note, what's the best way of acquiring an animal here.
[ You know - legally. ]

for me personally, my horse is in training as a therapy horse and i work for a therapy horse company so just in case i vanish, there's someone in line to care for him
so there are options
no subject
[ not that he's been worrying about that. at all. ]
What's a therapy horse?
no subject
therapy horses can do different things! Mine is mostly emotional support. he's a miniature pony so i take him to schools and nursing homes and stuff. dress him up in silly outfits and let people pet him and talk to him

Oh, that's neat. I bet the kids really like him. [ mostly kids, although adults as well. maybe? most of his own experience is with one frequently sick kid, but that was in the old days before all these newfangled hospitals. ] Does he like going?
[ annnnd, ] What kinda silly outfits?
no subject
he does enjoy it, and so do the people we visit. animals are so important, and people who don't have a lot of freedom to go out can miss having a pet. or being able to just pick up and go to the zoo or something
no subject
Is he really, really tiny? Or big enough for a small child to ride? And do you have any pictures? I'd love to see what he looks like.
no subject
here he is!! He could have a smaller kid ride him, yeah, but I prefer to stick with petting. or brushing, he loves to let people brush him.

If you're looking to get something, my suggestion to you is to look into fostering instead. Fosters are always meant to be temporary situations, so the animal isn't distressed from suddenly losing their family. And shelters are always looking for more caring foster homes.
video;
[ Which is probably for the best as a responsible pet owner. It's just that, in Bucky's day, pets were often just alley animals who hung around because you fed them table scraps. ]
Fostering is ... what? Letting 'em stay until they find a regular home, right?
[ sometimes it amazes him how much HYDRA left out of his training. ]
Re: video;
In this life, it's always a good idea to be proactive about it.
[In any life, really, but here especially.]
Or until the shelter has room for them, or care for a sick animal they can't devote the one-on-one attention to. But yes, that's the gist.
Re: video;
Do you think if I called one up out of the blue, they'd let me take one home? I've got a backyard and plenty of room in the apartment.

In the meantime, I have a robot tiger I'll let you babysit if you're that hard up.
[He turns the camera to a lounging Fubuki on an opposite couch, gently batting a chinchilla in a hamster ball.]

Holy cow. Where did you get ... it? Him? Her?
video;
You could always put someone down to be like ... a second guardian or something.
video;
Why are you talking about yourself like that?
video;
[Jane blinks.]
Oh! Oh, no. I mean my friend, Jane Porter!
video;
Which he does, after a long startled silence. ]
There are two Janes here?
video;
Yup. I'm Jane Foster, from the early 2000s, while she's Jane Porter from the late 1880s, I think? She's also a biologist. I think. She studies animals.

What you wanna do is to come to the shelter. I volunteer at one! There are plenty of critters that could use a home.

Which shelter?

And honestly, people talk a lot about what's gonna happen to our animals after we're gone, but they don't know the reality of it, y'know? We can't keep all of these animals. Sometimes it's a temporary home or not at all. You'd be doing a good thing.

Why do I get the feeling you're going to end up with some one-eared, three-legged rescue?
permavoice
No idea what you're insinuating, Andy.

The offer means a lot, though. I'll let you know. [ he stops for a moment, considering. ] How've you been?
no subject
Still damnably alive. [ Wryly: ] That's me. One of life's constants. What about you? Ever find yourself a place to volunteer?
