Someone was here before me, and they were "me". And the other me from last month's world, I suppose that would be "me", as well. Just how many "me"s are there? Are we all the same, are we all meant to become each other?

I may be overthinking things, but I can't stop thinking about them. I don't understand "multi-universes" or "parallel existence" or anything of the sort, so maybe that's why it's not easy to understand. But I have been thinking about it a lot and the books I read feel like they are talking about things too strange to be real.


How do I know I'm real? The real "me"?

I think there is a singular, TRUE version of ourselves. Your life is yours. Their lives are theirs. Similar, but different.

I came here after I died, and I now might be 'resurrected' on my home-world. That won't be me as I am here, though. I'm a completely new thing now, and she'll be her own thing. And we'll both be real.

Well, the consistent word here has been that you're sent back to the exact moment you left, like your home world was put on pause.

If there's a timeline divergence because of your coming here, then I guess it's just split at the moment you left and you'll never know the difference.

That depends on what you view as real, my friend. What makes something, or someone, 'real' to you?

In this case, "real" would be the original "me". The one that truly exists in the world I perceive as mine.

Oh? And what is it that you are doing so differently from that person now? What am I doing that makes me real to you, friend? Or do I not exist outside the words I write?

You cannot see me. You have not met me. Do you believe that I am real? Why? Or why not? How care you be sure?

[For many, Amaterasu isn't real. Her existence hinges on the belief people have in her, and her legend. Their prayers are what give her strength, power, and what make her real. Prayer is power, power is prayer. If ever a time comes when not a soul in the world - or worlds, as it were - comes to know her name...she will die. Truly and completely, the great goddess will cease to exist. And yet, she has never once questioned her existence, or her purpose.

I think the idea is that all the worlds are just as real as any other.

Mine has to be just as real as the one where I don't exist.

How do we even know they are from other worlds? The other mes I've seen, they seemed to have lived what I have.

Doesn't that make us the same?

maybe they went through the same shit you did but there's a point where they stopped being you you and started being their own people
and you're not them entirely either because there's stuff you did that they didn't and vice versa

Because I'm told we go back to the exact same point where we left of, in our world. So if all my alternative selves are coming from the same time-line but at different timepoints, we are all the same, no?

But if we are all from different parallel worlds, similar but with tiny differences, are we certain the current bodies we have are even our original ones? Because last month I was in the body of someone else. [ this is what an existential crisis looks like, basically]
