I like to wear dresses and skirts mostly! Sometimes I wear shorts underneath them if I'm going to be doing rowdy things. [ Rowdy things like rolling around on the beach with Karina... So very rowdy! ] I like soft fabrics, but, um, I don't like looking like a doll! [ Failed step one, maybe? ] I like when my clothes look like they're meant to be lived in.

Oh! And that's a sort of rowdy profession, too! But a science one, sort of. Right? [ She may not have a very clear picture of what a safari explorer is, but she sounds very excited. ] Maybe I can paint Karina's -- My squirtle's -- shell to look like an animal you find on safaris! Or like a fossil!

[ Oh yeah she is absolutely mixing some things up here. That said, she certainly has the spirit. ]

Both of those are true. They go out into the wild to learn things, but they are after specific stuff. Like they want to study animals, but there's always danger that the animals can get them.

[She's not entirely right, she's not entirely wrong, but she's clearly happy.]

Oh! He isn't mine. Mine is about to my knees! She's going to get that big some day though. I think most people let their Blastoise go fishing for a while, or feed them lots of fruit!

A lot of trainers have Blastoise! [ She laughs a little. ] Mine is only a squirtle right now.

But where I first saw a Blastoise... One of the Aether members who came from Kanto showed me her Blastoise once. She rescued it from a poaching ring before she joined Aether.

Poachers? I really don't like the implication of that word.

Poachers aren't uncommon. Sometimes they're catching rare pokemon to sell on the black market, and other times they're catching for specific clients... But there are a lot of organizations that work to oppose them! Law enforcement in most regions do a lot! And regions with Pokemon Leagues see the Leagues do a lot of work too. Rangers help to alert authorities to dwindling numbers and signs of poachers, too. Sometimes they're strong enough to take on the poachers themselves.

The Aether Foundation, the foundation my parents made, exists to take care of and rehabilitate pokemon, but they also try to stop poaching and reintroduce pokemon back into their natural habitat.

[ They absolutely are, but Lillie hasn't fully conceptualised that, even at thirteen. If asked directly she would respond with the knowledge, but it's somewhat compartmentalised... ]

Mm... But there are people who work hard to help them, too. And some day we won't be needed to keep the pokemon safe, and we'll all be able to live peacefully! Until then it's the duty of good trainers and organizations like Aether to look out for the pokemon that need the help!

[ She sounds a little fired up about this! And like she absolutely believes a day will come when human greed isn't overpowering human kindness in some people. ]

I think that most worlds are trying to work towards becoming safer for everyone. It's just that sometimes people don't aren't good at choosing what to be scared of! I read that before I was born a lot of people used to be scared of pokemon, and that sometimes humans would do awful things to some of them. Now we know that pokemon aren't scary, or, well, most pokemon aren't scary, and that they deserve to be happy just like humans do.

I have only been to one other world... But I think that everyone was trying to work towards a safer world, it's just that they were confused about where the danger was coming from!

[ Extremely positive. And extremely naive. ]

I do my best! I used to be... Um. Well, not very positive! I didn't have a lot of happy people in my life, and I think that maybe I wasn't happy either? But then I met the professors, and then Hau, and Mizuki! And then I got the courage to be brave because of everyone. Sometimes it's hard to be positive, but I think it's important!

[ How she'll grow up... Well, that's still in the air. But at least being cheerful is something she seems to do with intent, rather than something that comes naturally... Hopefully it'll stay with her to some degree as she learns some very hard truths. But for the moment at least, she's doing a pretty good job of looking on the bright side of things. ]
