Hey, so - calling all healers! Or, like... medically inclined ImPorts?
My job's lookin' to open up a new internship program for anybody with healing powers or supersmarts or whatever. [ he clearly does not have one of these powers. ] Their thinking is, like, working together we can really advance medical tech and knowhow here. It's a great place to work. They don't care if you get busy with heroism or whatever. They pay crazy well, too.
[ he snaps his fingers into fingerguns. ]
I've also got loads of experience with mastery over healing techniques, and like, a few PhDs worth of medical knowledge in my head, so if you need a mentor in medicine or some first aid, I'm your guy! I've also kinda never really hung out with another healer, who wasn't like, vaguely evil or like a million years old - so it'd be cool to compare notes?

[ hasn't had a chance to try them out full tilt, but he figures someone has, at some point. ]
Video.
[ he looks dumber when he types so he sticks to a video response. ]
An accelerated healing factor doesn't guarantee you won't die from an injury. Plus, civilians don't have nanites and could get hurt when things go crazy so it's always good to be prepared.
And, like, some people come with wounds or conditions from home that they want healed.
[text]
So the nanites healing capabilities are pretty limited, huh?
Are you actually capable of healing old injuries?
video.
[ the second question gives him pause. ]
Yes. But... there's a risk the nanites could revert it.
[text]
[ though Dabi is... curious about the potential. ]
I've only met one person before who could alter someone's health condition, but it involved disassembling and rearranging the very matter he wanted to change. Sounds risky to me.
video
Yeah, uh - that's gotta be the worst one I've heard of so far.
[ healing powers come in all shapes and sizes and so many of them are terrible. ]
I'm biokinetic. I can essentially just, like, tell a body what needs fixing and use some of my energy to give it the boost it needs to fix it.
[text]
Sounds like a useful set of skills, Doc. I guess I might run into you in the future, if you stay open for business.

How can I find you?
[ "man with the golden skin" is probably distinctive enough in this world, but—well. roundabout. ]
no subject
[ though, he should say. ]
I don't charge ImPorts. Like, especially not for stuff-from-before.

[ a shrug. ]
And I come from a place where people like us are treated pretty bad, and so do a lot of people, so! A little free healing is the least I can do.
[text > voice ]
I can't say I'll complain about free medical care. Appreciate the availability, in fact.
And this ain't why you broadcasted, but I find myself wondering. What were the circumstances in your world, Dr. Foley?
video
It's similar to here in a lot of ways. Like, crazy stuff is always happening. But instead of being adored by the population, for like, having the power to step in and save it, people like me - mutants, homo superior, whatever you wanna call it - spend most of our lives being discriminated against at best, and down and killed at worst. While the rest of the world just kinda turns a blind eye until we're useful.
[ he shrugs, trying to be casual as he can. ]
So! I feel like we gotta look out for each other, y'know?
[voice]
I've heard of something like that. It's somewhat historical where I came from, though there are still some fanatics clinging to the past.
[ He leaves it pretty vague though, unless details are asked. ]
You think this place will get like that?
[voice]
[ he's heard that a few times, though - people getting over their fear and prejudice. ]
How'd that work out? Like - how'd people get over it? [ and why are they still pissy about it, really, but that seems like a question to ask after. ]
[voice]
They didn't. A lot of people were killed on both sides, and an entirely new criminal underworld developed. In the end, Quirks—superpowers, meta abilities, whatever... They won the evolutionary lottery, I guess. I don't mean it like some dick-measuring contest about how the powerful prevail either; eventually, people intermarried, more children with abilities were born, and gradually those without became the minority.
[ that's HeroAca world history for you 101, which Dabi is repeating from his sketchy attention to middle school classes. ]
And the government figured out how to make those abilities work in their favor, so that probably helped.
permavid BC I AM A SCATTERBRAIN
... Yeah that's probably how it'll go in my world. Assuming the government doesn't, just, like... wipe us off the face of the planet. That's kinda why they're doing it.
[ nothing good ever comes from a mutant sex island even if it sounds like a paradise god the future is weird, bright, and probably highly doomed. ]
Honestly, not to be cynical or whatever, but I think that's a big reason of why things are chill here. The government and the registration program.
NO WORRIES lol i gotchu
I guess this place doesn't seem so bad in comparison, huh? Quite the depressing position to be in—to be relieved that the government someplace sees a use for you.
[ as opposed to, well. exterminable ]

Back home, that was pretty much what we were taught to do. Like - use your powers so people see you're useful and don't hate you. So I get it, it's just like, grim.
no subject
[ wouldn't he know. here and now ain't the place to push the point though. ]
But thanks for the answers. Been trying to get a picture of what sorts wound up here.

[ there's a beat, and then: ]
Honestly, who you were before doesn't matter. A lot of the people here are from worlds where magic and superpowers exist, and like, a lot of them wore capes or... the opposite of that. We gotta lotta folks who were shitty people back where they were from but now with their needs met they don't need to be.
[ himself included. probably. ]
So I wouldn't worry too hard about it.
Text
But I would want to learn more than basic first aid if you or your job are willing to teach.

Re: video

[ he's - pretty far from any kind of mentorship material, but there's some undeniable excitement at getting to help someone else figure their pwers out. ]
Mine worked a lot better once I started understanding what I was actually doing. It's like, fine motor control.
video
[He's quiet for a few seconds, then blurts out.]
Can you help someone with a power that's sort of a healing power and sort of not a healing power?
video
[ ha... ha ha. ]
Yeah, that's in my wheelhouse. I might need a little more info though.
Re: video
I can make people feel better, but they're not really better. Like if someone broke their leg, I can make the pain go away. The bone would still be broken though. It's kind of a bullshit healing instead of a real healing.
video
that could be a very dangerous power. ]
S'good for getting somebody calmed down, at least. I can show you how to treat the injury so they don't end up hurting themselves any more.
video
[There's another pause, working his way up to ask about the second part of his powers.]
Can you teach me how to make it not hurt? 'Cause the way it works is that when I take their pain away, I can feel it.

Re: video
video;
( what, no, he isn't saying a damn thing about his power, what power... )

[ maybe some kind of self-healing thing? he remembers it being mentioned... probably better to know what you're working with so you don't accidentally heal, like, a bone or something. ]
