Okay, so I'm still trying to understand this Christmas thing. [She has been looking up so much junk on search engines. So much.] I know we're supposed to give people we like gifts and junk, but I can't really figure out what gifts are best. [Some sites say joke gifts, others say something personal is best, some just don't think it's important and that the holiday is a big load of butts, and also the word 'fruitcake' seemed to come up quite a bit.]

I guess something meaningful and nice would probably be the best thing, but that doesn't really help if you don't know what's meaningful and nice for whoever you're getting a gift for. I know you could ask, but just asking somebody what they want kind of takes the fun out of it, right? [It seems like it would.] And I'm not sure guessing would really work out well, either.

... Also, does anybody know where somebody can safely melt a bunch of metal? I need to know because. [Um.] Yeah.

I've been looking things up online, but a lot of people have different ideas about what the point of this holiday is. [Some religious thing, that Santa guy breaking into everybody's home and leaving junk, something just used as an excuse to spend and make money, so on and so forth. It makes things kind of confusing when trying to figure out what the deal with Christmas is.]

Hm, have you watched any movies? This is where I have found the best answers. I am beginning to believe there is only one person you should speak to when it comes to certain life lessons like this.

As for the gift thing, I guess it depends on how well you know the person.

I'd say a gift should be something that's meaningful between the both of you. So that could really vary depending on the individual, I guess. I'm hardly an expert on this Earth holiday thing, though.

Can't say I can help you with the metal thing.

Not a ton. Like, enough to make something you can hold in your hand. But a few of them. [... Yeah.]

And I hope I know people well enough to figure out stuff they'd like, but then I wonder if I'm totally wrong and I'm back to guessing again. [GIVING GIFTS IS HARD.]

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, too. But if I want to figure out something meaningful to the both of us, I have to hope that it's not just meaningful to me and I guessed wrong about it meaning something to them.

I'm guessing you don't need a forge. [ It's pretty obvious who'll be dong the melting, FP... ] But that would be where I'd look -- metalworking shops, or a even glassworks. They're used to dealing with high temperatures.

I think most people feel like the spirit a gift's given in is more important than what it is. [ That's going to be his excuse for crappy presents this year, and he's sticking to it. ] Just say you got it because it reminds you of them.

It depends on the individual.

If you're dealing with someone who prefers practicality, you should ask them exactly what they want. It might take the "fun" out of the surprise, but you'll please them with your reliability.
If it's someone who doesn't want anything particular, you could get anything ranging from something useful to something sentimental. It depends on how close you are to them.

What's the story on this metal? What kind of metal is it, and why do you need it melted?

Just outside the city proper? A machine shop, maybe?

But wouldn't it be kind of whack if somebody got you a really bad gift and said it reminded them of you? [Hopefully that won't happen, but still. CRAPPY GIFTS ARE CRAPPY GIFTS, SHEPARD.]

Yeah, I can see how that would cause a problem. [Like everyone knowing that you don't put thought into gifts. Still, it's a good thing to remember. If only for the sake of Things Not To Do.]

Yeah, I'm starting to think that would be the safest option. There would probably be a smaller chance of me burning something that shouldn't be on fire if I do it there, anyway.

It's a weird smash of a lot of things. Like, it's for family and friends. More often than not the presents are presents the person wants or you think they would like. Or its meaningful in some weird way.

I dunno. It's a case by case basis, really.

That depends on what that person likes, or what you think they need. If you don't know them very well but you still wanna give them a gift, give 'em something anyone would like...like food.
