[ The young woman slumping back into focus is in her mid-twenties with purplish dyed hair, thick black glasses, and sleeves of tattoos wreathing her arms in roses. Average, really, in basically every way, except for the quickness of her brown eyes when they fix on you like she isn't just listening, she's hearing something on another level. The caller id reads Verity Willis, nothing else, and on her lap is a recently purchased book on biology. ]
My name's Verity. I'm not going to make this long, so bear with me.
[ Running black nails through her hair, she sips from ahuge glass of wine before continuing. ]
I'm new and my file mentioned I have telepathic abilities, but mostly it's like white noise in the back of my head. This isn't an emergency of possibly mentally Hulking Out proportions, I'd just really appreciate some advice on quietening it down for the time being.
[ She takes off her glasses and rubs the bridge of her nose. ]
Does Shushenheim deliver? I'm starved. [ After a moment, the in-joke is dismissed by a smile that briefly splits the deadpan.See, Loki? She'll talk to you now. Come hang. ] Never mind.
I guess that's it, thanks.

How's the mental overload?
[ he's at his desk in his apartment, the comm leaning up on a pile of books. how can you tell? well, there's more books around him. except he doesn't exactly have any great tome in front of him. he's holding the spine of a young adult novel open, whimsically flipping it back and forth. ]

[ Her own comm is stuffed against a cushion so she can chat and browse her own book in kind. A few purple locks are puffed out of her eyes. ]
It's ... fine. Like it used to be before I learned how to ignore people. [ With the lie detection, in that respect. It's not fine, because telepathy apparently sucks, but she's sick of hearing herself complaining. He gets a glance. ] What's that?
[ Looks more interesting than what's up to read here. ]

But then again. This is someone who's clearly involved with Loki, judging from the replies. And therefore tangentially involved with Kate and Billy. So. It would pay to at least make the attempt. Who knows. Maybe if they only ever communicate via text?]
Telepathy? Impressive.
Does it work over text and video as well, or only in person?

Don't use a false name. Who are you?
[ That's only going to irritate her if he wants to keep talking, pretending — no way around that. It's something of a refreshing change, to have people assume it's telepathy working in her favor despite asking for help with it. ]

I could bring you over some food, if you really are hungry. [ He doesn't know what to make of that, but just in case she meant it, why not offer? ] I don't have the same problem exactly, but for things like that I think that staying busy helps. Exercising or something. You'll at least be distracted.

Mine didn't start out with the noise thing. Something I had to turn on more, but I think that's 'cause of stuff from home, mostly. [ the original telepathy he had came from a chip in his head, and was more difficult in terms of trying to activate than trying to quiet down. anyway. ]
Check in with Emma Frost, at Xavier's school for imPorts. She's sort of the master at this stuff.

[ Relieved there's another telepath knocking around, she tries to find her feet and offer him what she already knows, hoping to give him the outline of what groundwork she has already laid. ]
I've had a problem like this before, I couldn't shut that off either. It was a little like building a mental dam and funneling information in specific directions, so I'm trying to do the same thing. The problem is, this is almost more invasive because now I'm not just in my own head anymore when it piles up — and that's frightening.
[ No one likes a telepath when they're angry, even the telepath themselves. ]

[ Kitty is a nice-looking girl, late teens, friendly smile, and completely silent in terms of any lies or...anything at all. The reason for which is this: ]
I've got the ability to cancel out powers. I've got to be touching you for it to work, so it's not any sort of permanent solution, but at least it's a few moments of silence. If you'd like.

[ To the lie detection, too? Her eyes widen as she tries to imagine what it would be like even with the telepathy put aside, even for just a few moments free of her own gift. Being able to believe whatever she wants and not be a thoroughfare for other people? A pit-stop for their lies, their lives? ]
Kitty, I — I'd love that. Wouldn't it be a bother for you, to just have me there using your power because I wanted to?

Though frankly, she's stopped in to see if the stranger has learned anything that she herself might be able to use. It isn't consistent, but Riza's spent her time since awakening here being aware of an additional source of information that she can't place a finger on. It takes a certain amount of conscious effort to ignore it. On top of the injuries she'd sustained immediately prior to her arrival, the additional information is growing frustrating at best and overwhelming at worst.]
I haven't figured anything out, myself.
[ooc: Hawkeye's power is perception! It lets her know a little bit of general information about the person she's talking with...if they're dodging the truth, or worried about something, etc. Permissions post is here.]
