Third Gate [Video]

Hello, everyone. It's been a few months since I've addressed the network at large, so I'll introduce myself- I'm Dr. Jennifer Keller, and I live and work in De Chima. I'm almost done securing the paperwork to start up my own medical practice here, and it's gotten me wondering about something.

What are the unique medical challenges imPorts may face?

Obviously, superpowers add an extra dimension to our ability to give, take, and heal injuries- I myself can see inside a person's body to help pinpoint, diagnose, and treat their injuries- but I know I have yet to see and experience everything everyone is capable of. I'd like to be as prepared as possible when I strike out on my own.

My clinic will be focusing on imPort-specific care, so I would also like to talk to anybody who may be interested in working with me.

Thanks for your time.

As someone without powers back home, I can tell you a little bit about what it was like to adjust to fighting people who had them. There were different concerns that came up. I ... have a feeling they may be relevant here. [Plus, there's the part where she'd love to help Jennifer out.]

Honestly, Doctor J, I think some of the biggest ones are going to be more of an issue for you than for the imPorts. I'd bet you a twenty that you're going to get people who won't tell you how they got hurt or maybe won't demask. And I can think of more than one power where you'd be at risk treating the person.

Just be careful, okay?

It's unlikely you've encountered anything like my kind before. I have been meaning to get a checkup.

Jennifer! It's so good to see you! How have you been?

Uhh... I'm made of fire, so I guess the medical challenges I face are dealing with anything that could put me out?

Disparities in technology may be an issue. I have a very high percentage of advanced prosthetics that are beyond what's available here. Repair or replacement of those parts could definitely pose a challenge.

I'm something of a man of science myself, Dr. Keller. As it so happens, I've been assigned to work as a medical researcher here. I'd be very curious to learn just what answers it is you get.

Unfortunately, yeah. It's not a knock against you. You're all right, but it wouldn't be just you. It'd be you, the support staff, the guy who builds your network, the geeks who wrote the software.

[ Robbie shifts in his seat, rubbing his neck. He hates to get into this, but he likes Jen.

Don't ignore the other reason, yeah? Not everyone can control their abilities when they're unconscious or in pain. Or at all. And abilities aren't set for life; they can mutate with trauma.

Oh, there are powers there, but I never had them. It gave me an idea of what dangers I could face by fighting those who had them. [Clarifying is something that helps here.]

Oh, I've seen them all right. I'm not positive they have anything to do with him, but I can't pretend to really know. Their ... religion is something that I've never encountered before.

[It's a little girl! but she's being digitally projected, as if from a computer, rather than from a video camera]

Considering I seem to have a human and robotic form, I wonder if one is affected by the injury of the other! If my tank form is damaged, does it remain damaged until manually repaired?? If I am injured as a human, does it impact my robotic form??

Experimentation might be called for!

Precisely. If Korra were still here, we could probably even compare notes. She's able to heal.

[It's not that Asami has hidden that losing her girlfriend has been hard on her, but her vacation in NYC really helped take the brunt of it. Still, there's a creeping sadness in her tone.

After all, she didn't just lose her significant other: she lost a friend, a comrade, and someone to help her strive forward. With so many people caught here for an extended period of time, she doesn't want to be without friends from home. She'd love to have anyone, really.]

It was too quick, wasn't it?

Do you think we should look into it?

Yeah, I'd either get a lot weaker or I could die, depending on things. [She still avoids going out in the rain, even though she does have the umbrella Kaidan gave her.]

But it's not really something people have to deal with in most places. I'm still pretty sure that people like me are only common in Ooo.

Yes! I generally stay in human form because it's less obtrusive and also I get an interesting range of sensors that I don't have in my tank form, especially taste! Taste is a really really good sensor!

Generally I only revert to tank form for transportation purposes, or when strength is called for, like when I helped Sabriel move those construction supplies!

I've met one person that seemed familiar with prosthetics, but a full-body prosthesis seemed beyond her knowledge as well. I guess my best option is to try to not lose any limbs.

If you need any help, I'll do whatever I can.
