They tell you to check your mental health. Keep your head in place. Ask for help, talk to someone so you'll feel better. Talk about what?
Everyone tries to help, everyone tries to relate. Tries to give their insight and their support, their professional opinion and healing. But if you haven't seen the world burning, how are you going to talk about that, how are you going to help someone who has gone mad because of that?
If you are crazy, you are crazy. Talking won't undo that.
I think we are all crazy, here. Fucked up. Just in different degrees and angles. Isn't being crazy a good response to a world that is just as crazy? And sometimes crazy is just normal. You can't even tell the difference.
[ what was the point of this post again? Ah, yes- ]
Annie Leonhart is gone. Reiner Braun has left sometime before that, but Annie never got around to let others know. I don't know where their dog is.

...apparently. ]
talking might not undo it but it can help
people want to relate because they want you to know you arent alone and you dont have to let it make you crazy. they want to help you find better ways to deal with it.
and if you stay crazy because the world is crazy, its dangerous for the people you care about
[ he thinks anyway??? oh god, what is he doing, trying to dispense advice. he can't even solve his own problems without a bullet to the head. ]

That's bullshit. You are running around in circles; talking might slow you down, but you are still going in circles.
Things get loud and then what? Others can't handle them. They can't hear how loud it gets and they get confused and don't know what to do. "I came from a world where humanity was locked behind walls and outside giants lived to kill humans"; you can't possibly relate to that. Chances are, you don't even know what to say.
The world is warped and that's how things are. You adapt to it, adapt to keep your place in it and the place of those you care for. Maybe others see that as sanity, maybe others will see it as insanity. Like I said, it's hard to know what is sane and isn't because of fucked things are.
no subject
just because you can't relate doesn't mean you can't try. you learn how to help them. thats what you do for people you care about.
its not the world thats messed up, its the people. and itll only stay that way if people think its okay to go crazy instead of trying to help

Just because you didn't see the fire in action doesn't mean you've never dealt with it. But that's just shitty semantics, so whatever.
It's not about fixing yourself, anyway; it's about slapping on enough bandaids so you can get through the day without having a meltdown. That's all it is.
no subject
Maybe it's just semantics. But there are different kinds of fire and they happen for different reasons. Something like that. It's hard to get into metaphors right now.
That's all there is to it. I don't see "talking about it" as a band-aid, though. More like scratching at the wound. [ oh look, he does have some metaphors left after all ]
no subject
Metaphors are pretty shitty anyway. And I like you, but not enough to look up burn terminology for abstract replies.
[a halfhearted stab at a joke, because she feels like she needs some kind of safety net for herself if she ends up talking a little too personally. something stupid to hide behind.]
Yeah, it's dumb, but most people are more optimistic than I am. I think they hope that if somebody else listens and kind of tries to understand, even if they can't help, it'll take some of that pressure off.
And it doesn't really matter if that's true for people like that, you know? They can lie to themselves that it's working, and that's another day they get through.

it is their understanding in the way a mind reacts to that trauma and how to minimize the damage
to develop methods by which we can cope and contain our craziness so it doesnt leak messily over everyone else
a year ago i might have similarly disparaged the practice
but having been a patient of it now i think that may have been short-sighted
and we arent all crazy
saying that only makes the word meaningless
normal is already a useless term but crazy should be reserved for those of us whove actually earned it
rex is in my care
i noticed annies absence three days ago and thought it best that he was looked after

I'm not in any position to comment on the rest of your message, but that's probably just as well. I'm sure other people have plenty to say.
[He's one of those people who really ought to be talking to a mental health professional, but Barnaby himself got Ported out shortly after the last time he tried asking for help. In light of those circumstances, it's hard not to wonder about the futility of trying again.]

Then it's just speaking words you hope it works.
Hope doesn't work. We aren't in a fantasy world. And everything is fucked.

I'm sorry about Annie. I didn't know her very well but she seemed like a good kid.

I think she is, too. I'm very biased, though.

I'm sorry to hear about Annie-san though. I didn't know her that well, but we met up a couple times. She was kind.

Talking too much can be a big mistake. There is nothing wrong with silence. Silence is good.
She was, more than you'd hope from someone who lived the way she did.

I think it's easier to not set a standard for what's 'normal' to begin with.
However if there is no standard for normality, then what is society but a farce?
People need normal and crazy both. Equal sides.
no subject
There hasn't been any normal in my life for ages now. There is no equality.
