Hello! This was kind of an unexpected situation, ne? Alternate universes and realities, superpowers and suspicious military involvement with interdimensional portals? It's like something out of a comic book!

[ the young, feminine voice holds a tone that one would never suspect held honest suspicion and distrust toward the aforementioned military. this whole thing is really sketchy, and if there's one thing he learned from comic books it's that you never trust the government or military in these situations. ]

My name is Akito! I'm fifteen years old from Tokyo, Japan. My version of earth has Air Trecks! If any of you are familiar with them, please let me know - it would be nice to meet other people who like them! [ since chances are you're from his world and he probably knows you... ]

Ah... Right now I have three big questions!

First: are there any lawyers around who would be willing to help me become an emancipated minor? I don't really have anything to offer in return just yet, but I would be willing to work out an exchange of some kind!

Second! I heard that there is a school run by other imPorts, and was wondering if someone could give me more information about it.

And third! If I were to draw blueprints for something mechanical is there anywhere I could go to have the parts built for me?

I don't think emancipation is actually necessary considering your guardians aren't here??

Our status as imPorts seems to grant 'minors' a special kind of independence, which might actually be jeopardized by trying to incite the legal system to more thoroughly intervene! In such a case, a court may decide that you are better served as a Ward of the State, or even have you inserted into the Foster Care system!!

No, from what I've heard if you're fifteen or younger whichever adult or adults you're living with are assigned guardian status to you. I don't want to be put in any situation where a stranger has any legal power over me.

I'm not an American citizen, and I don't plan on registering for a while - not until there's more information. Besides, I'm already affiliated with the Japanese military so I'd rather not pledge allegiance to another country, especially given the current circumstances.

So, given that I'm not actually American, they can't technically make me a ward of the state. If anything they would have to deport me.

I don't think you are technically a citizen of this world's japan! We aren't citizens at all! We have a strange status as otherworldly beings under the jurisdiction of the US military!

I don't know how readily Japan would want to take you - harboring you might damage US relations, and they seem to be political allies!

As for Lawyers I think there is an imPort named Jeff Winger who is maybe a not-fake lawyer? He has a movie with Lucifer or something I'm a little confused.

I don't see how deportation would damage the relations between them, but this world is really weird so far so it probably shouldn't be surprising.

It's not 'deportation' because you aren't a Japanese citizen. It would be you going AWOL and seeking asylum with Japan!

ImPorts are a liability! Japan probably doesn't want anything to do with us! We're an American 'problem.'

To be fair, many countries would probably prefer that the US doesn't have a monopoly over control and study of the Porters, but the side effects of the porters - us! - are not something other countries want to deal with!

It's perfectly fine if you don't want to register, but I think that it will probably benefit you if you realize that the japan you know is not the one that exists here, and you should not expect to find kinship or allies there!!

No matter what universe, I'm still a Japanese citizen. Maybe not to this world's Japan but that doesn't suddenly make me American. I'm not an idiot - I know my Japan isn't here, but that doesn't change how I feel about it. I don't care about finding allies there, I care about not letting the morons who can't figure out how we're brought here dictate my life.

I'm not a tool to be used by this government, or any government. They've already injected nanites into our bodies without any forewarning or permission, branding us, and they refuse to give essential details to help us find our own way back home. From everything I've heard, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't even trying to figure out how to send us back.

There's not a single thing they've done to make me trust them.

Yeah, the government doesn't get any say in how we run things. You don't even have to be Registered to go here. Our Headmaster and the Director are both imPorts, too.

There isn't any. Classes are free and you can live here for free if you want.

There isn't one. We got a lotta private funding and the whole point of the school is to make a safe place for young imPorts, so they don't feel any pressure to get enlisted with the military and shit like that.

That's a question for Professor Callaghan, but I think they'll work with you to kinda tailor the whole thing. Some of our students aren't even from Earth, so they gotta have some pretty different lessons.

But yeah, you won't have to worry about the government getting up in your business. That's the whole point of the school.
